regular/daily makeup wearers, how long does it take you to apply your makeup each day?

Do you have to get up an hour or half hour earlier?

Just curious really as after watching many tutorials online I often wonder how so many find the time to do this everyday. I am especially interested in what mumsnetters have to say as it can't be easy to find the time to apply a full face of makeup and get kids ready each day.

Or does it not really take that long? It takes me ages to apply makeup so I rarely bother, especially since becoming a mum, but I'm a novice anyway.

As I said, just curious. Also feeling a bit like women get a bum deal IYSWIM.

Putting on make up takes me 5 minutes, if that.

I apply serum and moisturiser, then put underwear on, then SPF which doubles as a primer. Then I get dressed so that the SPF can sink in a bit.

The actual make up bit goes:
Foundation applied with fingers - the new YSL touche one.
Eyeliner under the upper lashes
Cream Blush - Liz Earle
Mascara
Lipstick or lip tint or something like that.

I use fingers for everything (bar mascara obviously) as I like looking like me but better not like I am Wearing Make Up.

onemoreforgoodmeasure · 12/09/2012 09:47

10 minutes, and I think I wear a medium amount of makeup, if the contiuunm is from no makeup to TOWIE levels. I wear a foundation, a concealer, a powder, blush, eye liner, eye brow filler, etc., But my whole morning takes an hour from getting out of bed to leaving for work as I do a blow dry and hot rollers and I don't scrimp on the shower time. That hour does include time to go and make a coffee though and it's not a rush - I do hate to rush in the mornings!

Inneedofbrandy · 12/09/2012 09:54

Agree with others who say the longest part is eating for cream to sink in.

BeauNeidel · 12/09/2012 09:56

I wear make up every day. I don't have to get up for work as I do evening shifts, so I can take my time over it. I generally will take about 15-20 minutes to do it, but I use every product you could possibly think of Grin

Foundation, applied with fingers or brush and (sometimes) blended with a sponge
Eye lid primer
Eyeshadow and eyeliner - been watching a lot of tutorials online so will often try out a new look which will take five minutes I wouldn't normally
Powder
Pencil in eyebrows
Curl and mascara lashes
Blusher, bronzer and contouring
Lipstick/gloss/whatever

I will be back at work full time on regular shifts in about a month, so will have to pare this down, but I really enjoy putting my face on so it doesn't bother me that takes ages! It probably doesn't help that I narrate what I am doing like I'm recording it for a tutorial Blush

I wear make up most days but only recently. It can take me anywhere between 5 mins and an hour depending on what mood Im in. Im not confident in applying so I like to take a little break inbetween applying each product and look in different morrors in the house to make sure the product looks ok. Lighting is different all over the house so while I may look like a glowing skinned goddess in my bathroom I look like an umpah lumpah in my bedroom.

I favour my sleep more than my looks so on school days I straighten hair the night before as it holds til next morning and apply bb cream then do the rest when I get back home if I feel like it. I have a lovely set of brushes but more often than not I use my fingers for foundation as I think it blends better.

IShallPracticeMyCurtsey · 12/09/2012 10:15

5 mins. I can't leave the house without a light application of mineral foundation (LilyLoLo), concealer under eyes, and blusher and/or bronzer. Like others say the longest part is letting moisturizer set in first.
Doing my eyes takes me about another 2 minutes, but I try not to wear eye-make up every day.

KentuckyFriedChildren · 12/09/2012 11:15

Less than 5 mins. Moisturizer then I apply foundation with fingers like moisturizer. Quick dust of baby powder (am v fair) then a quick dust of blush. Black pen eyeliner and curl lashes then mascara. Tinted lip balm and away :)

hazeyjane · 12/09/2012 11:19

5-10 mins

foundation with fingertips
concealer
powder with big brush
blusher with brush
eyeliner
mascara
lip balm

modifiedmum · 12/09/2012 11:21

10 mins for daily make up i apply two pumps of foundation with a brush, mascara, high beam dabbed on cheeks, blusher and some vaseline on the lips. If I'm going out the doing some eye make up and eye lashes maybe about 20 minutes.

LauraShigihara · 12/09/2012 11:29

4 to 5 minutes.

I put moisturiser on very early, after my shower, so it sinks in for 40 minutes or so.

Before I leave the house, I pop a bit of concealer on around my eyes, put on a light covering of foundation, colour and groom my eyebrows (DH's hair gel is brilliant for keeping them in place all day), one coat of mascara, quick tidy of my hair, followed by second mascara coat.

Squirt of perfume, nice scarf and good shoes on and I'm out the door.

MamaGeekChic · 12/09/2012 11:32

5mins for me on a normal day:

Concealer
Foundation
Bronzer
eyeliner
Mascara
Lipliner
Lipstick

For a special event I'll take maybe 15mins to be more careful and do my eyes properly with various shadows etc

valiumredhead · 12/09/2012 12:01

Not even 5 mins - foundation, conceal or, curl eyelashes, inner and mascara and lip gloss or stick.

TheBirdsTheBirds · 12/09/2012 12:04

5 minutes, 10 if I'm making an effort.

foundation - just a tiny bit on t-zone, applied with fingers
powder blusher
black gel eyeliner applied with brush along top lashes
mascara
lipstick/tinted lipbalm
loose powder

badtasteflump · 12/09/2012 12:06

My 'everyday' face takes five minutes, tops.

concealer where I need it.
gel blush
bit of powder on a big brush to set it
eyeliner & mascara
lip gloss

voila - I look awake!

My 'going out' face takes ages

Bookbrain · 12/09/2012 12:11

Ten minutes here. I still have crappy skin so 5 minutes with the concealer I actually have more than one for different areas of my face covering zits, scars, dark circles and all the rest of it. Brush over with mineral foundation. Blusher, eyeliner, mascara. That's what I wear for a normal day.

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 12/09/2012 12:16

5-10 minutes
Apply moisturiser, then put clothes on so it has time to sink in a bit. (30 sec)
Primer then foundation applied with brushes (use mineral powders) (1m)
Concealer applied with brush under eyes, round nose and any spots (1m)
Eyeliner, then use curler to curl eyelashes (1m)
Primer then mascara (1m)
Benetint on lips and cheeks (30 sec)

If its a night out it may take longer because I'll used eyeshadow, or a more fancy eyeliner and spend time on my lips. Probably do everything with lots more care and attention so more likely to take 15 mins

jumpingjackamo · 12/09/2012 13:12

Wow ladies, I am impressed!

theboss I use brushes because using my fingers leaves a greasy result for me. I own almost all the Real Techniques brushes and find them brilliant as a novice user.

justasecond · 12/09/2012 14:06

I am almost permanently anemic and therefore need makeup otherwise people enquire about my health. It just takes 3-4 mins max as follows, foundation on my t zone blended onto cheeks, touche eclat for dark shadows, benefit dandelion blusher. I look human after this then if I have enough time I use a pinky nude lipliner and lipgloss.

justasecond · 12/09/2012 14:07

I have dark lashes and brows anyway so no mascara.

TheBossofMe · 12/09/2012 14:08

You see, I find fingers faster for concealer and foundation, plus leaves a supernatural light finish. I think it's because it warms it up a bit.

Giant fat brush for powder, slightly smaller fat brush for blush.

And not that fussed about eye shadow brushes.

Practise makes me fast though.

I do other stuff whilst waiting for moisturiser to sink in, eg put body moisturiser on, sort out clothes for day, so it's not dead time.

PlumSykes · 12/09/2012 14:24

5 mins, I would think

foundation
cream blush
bronzer
eyebrow powder
curl lashes
mascara
liquid liner
lipstick

purplefairies · 12/09/2012 19:58

It takes me exactly 7 minutes :( I timed it once for a friend who insisted she didn't have "hours" in the morning to put on make-up.

I wear
Under-eye concealer
Bobbi Brown foundation (applied with fingers)
Nude eyeshadow
Eyeliner
Mascara
Blusher
Lip gloss

If I'm doing out, I might take a bit longer and do more coats of mascara, eyebrow pencil, lips, curl eyelashes, etc. but after so many years I've got it down to a fine art.

EllenParsons · 12/09/2012 22:18

I do it in about 10 min, can be quicker if necessary.

Eliza22 · 13/09/2012 08:34

10 mins.
One squirt of light coverage foundation.
Concealer under eye shadows (I AM 50!)
Mac MSF Natural Light dusted over.
Creme Blush (cheeks and lips)
Mascara

I wear it every day. Because I like to. For me. I have good skin and I think over the years, it's been "protected" by my makeup.

lubeybooby · 13/09/2012 08:40

The more often you do it the quicker you get.

If need be, I can do a full night time/more glamourous look, done carefully so that it lasts well, in 20 mins.

Normal daytime type make up... 5 mins. Foundation/concealer then a little bronze and blush, eyebrows, eyeliner, curl eyelashes, little swish of mascara, quick dab of lipstick/gloss
