Normal clothes, surely? I don't think you have to dress up but don't look a complete scruff, obv.

Well it depends, who is it? Howmany going? How well do you know them?

Blackduck · 03/03/2006 10:35

I tend to use a dinner party as an excuse to get out of tshirt and jeans...but don't go overboard either...just put on something that I normally bypass on a day to day basis....

cod · 03/03/2006 10:35

probably the same as what you would wear to go out to eat?
you could always take your slippers to change into Smile

compo · 03/03/2006 10:36

lol at mincing!! Well not sparkly jeans and sparkly top - maybe just smart plain jeans, smart top and nice accessorises

Enid · 03/03/2006 10:36

I live in an extraordinary rural bubble, bear that in mind.

We gave a dinner party on Sat night and the girls wore: jeans, with a 'going out' top on and some jewellery and one of them had funky little embroidered flats. Proper going out make up and hair too.

nailpolish · 03/03/2006 10:37

wear something that looks good sitting down (i have sit down and stand up clothes lol)

you can wear heels really high as there wont be much standing about

usually trousers as you will be sitting on their couch later too, which could be low. youll probably stuffed after the meal. comfy trousers at that. and a really posh top

not that i go to dinner parties myself, but i know damn well what i would wear

cod · 03/03/2006 10:37

lol
but in pub its always hot so dress more cooly

hmm ok
will think on

have to walk there in ciy weather and it a 15 minwalk

hm thinkin velvey jeans

compo · 03/03/2006 10:38

velvety jeans sound nice. I'd wear a top and cardi combo so when you get too hot from all the food and wine you can take a layer off

Enid · 03/03/2006 10:38

but I went to the dinner party from hell once

'oh come round its a girls night'

Enid turns up in jeans, jumper, not much effort made

I kid you not, 6 other women in full make up, heels, skirts, boden from head to toe, posh jewellery etc. I felt like the nanny.

nailpolish · 03/03/2006 10:39

something sparkly like earrings that will shimmer in the candlelight on the table and get you compliments

velvet trousers perfect

cod · 03/03/2006 10:39

dotn do cardies

wil think on about tops

How did it go BTW did I miss an update thread ?

And are you feeling any better today ??

Enid · 03/03/2006 10:40

yes agree jewellery, hair and make up a good idea as thats what people will see most of

cod · 03/03/2006 10:40

i want to go OUT when i go out not sit in a house

i do that all day

OP posts:
Frenchgirl · 03/03/2006 10:40

just refuse to take your shoes off
velvety jeans sound nice, with nice boots with a heel and a pretty jumper/top

compo · 03/03/2006 10:40

no cardies, what do you wear in winter?!! I guess you could wear warm jumper and then take it off as soon as you get there to reveal something sunning underneath

WideWebWitch · 03/03/2006 10:41

ha ha at felt like the nanny! Are you feeling better enid? Cod, I think you can go middling, so smart casual god, horrible expression but ykwim. The last time I went to dinner party at friend's house all womem were made up, hair done, but jeans and heels so made an effort but not over the toply so.

nailpolish · 03/03/2006 10:42

cod, just take the opportunity to have a nose in the house. esp. the toilet. go to the upstairs toilet and get a really good nosy

and its still a night out, only cheaper

is it a nice house?
