Do those all day sunscreens like P20 work?

DH is burnt but is being all blokey about not wearing sunscreen.

I have literally had to chase him with factor 50.

Sigh.

P20 does protect from UVA and UVB and it has a 3 star rating (which is listed as good)

The formula was changed a few years ago.

It stains less now than it used to - but still best to apply, wait 10 min and then dress.

BellaVita · 17/07/2013 17:23

Piz Buin 30 All Day here too. Went on a mass spending spree a while back when it was half price and BOGOF for our holiday in a couple of weeks.

badguider · 17/07/2013 17:26

piz buin all day does definitely work. it soaks deep into your skin and doesn't sweat off. I use it for all day hiking, trail running and mountain biking and have done at high altitude and in strong sun in peru and the alps.

you need to put loads on and really let it settle in before dressing though. apparently it doesn't even work for the first 20mins so i always put it on after my shower in the morning.

MadCap · 17/07/2013 17:28

I just bought P20 spf 50 in Tesco and it was in offer. I hate the smell but it works really well.

theoriginalandbestrookie · 17/07/2013 17:30

This is an old thread - but worth resurrecting in this heat!

I saw riemann P20 SPF50+ in Matalan the other day - just checked on Amazon and they have it as well, sounds like a great idea. Although I have never burnt any time I use the factor 20.

Also for DS I use Boots Childrens Once a day SPF50. Never burnt with that on, and it does seem to last all day - will reapply in the afternoon if he has been swimming.

WithASpider · 17/07/2013 17:37

I have P20 factors 20, 30, and 50 ready for our holiday in August. DH introduced me to it after it was recommended for his trip to Kenya 11 years ago.

It's fantastic for the DCs!

bishboschone · 17/07/2013 18:03

Yes.. P20 changed my life .. Literally I was always getting burnt , peeling , in pain .. Now I just go a lovely brown and haven't burnt for ten years.

mumofthemonsters808 · 17/07/2013 18:30

I've used P20 for years but in recent years it's brought out my prickly heat and I have been in a real mess. I've no idea why this should happen after all these years.

bishboschone · 17/07/2013 18:53

Try changed the formula a few years ago. It usedto be a 90 minute wait . Now it's just 15 minutes maybe that's why?

RedToothBrush · 17/07/2013 19:15

All day sun cream DOES NOT work for me. I'm incredibly fair and burn even using factor 50 at the height of the sun in sunny climates.

But my main problem is that virtually all suncreams irritate my skin. Which gave me a choice of stay indoors or wear massive hats and long sleeve tops.

Until last year I found a german suncream brand called Alverde. It seems to be the only thing that doesn't cause me a problem.

handcream · 17/07/2013 19:48

I tired a Roche Poussay (from Boots) SPF 50 non greasy for the face. It isnt shiny and is very good. Just for the face though...

Would highly recommend. Dont like the greasy/white look....

ShoeWhore · 17/07/2013 20:38

Another vote for Soltan Once from Boots - I was quite nervous the first time I used it on my pale skinned redheads but it really does protect them all day - brilliant stuff!

marssparklesdownonme · 17/07/2013 20:50

Got some P20 factor 50 in Boots yesterday for 19.99, instead of 24.99.

minesapackofminstrels · 17/07/2013 20:56

I use Soltan Once, Water Play for the kids. It supposedly gives 3 hr protection in water and 6 hours on land. I have spent a day at the beach with the kids and had to reshower them having discovered they still had patches of sunscreen after a shower and a day in sand and sea. I do put loads on them though. Will turn white things a bit yellow if get dressed too soon after applying but so far the marks have come out in the wash.

notapizzaeater · 17/07/2013 21:04

P20 here, ds never burnt and it's so quick to slap on in a morning, it's by the front door and he knows to wait till I've put it on and off he goes

girliefriend · 17/07/2013 21:05

P20? Where can you buy it?

My dd is refusing to wear the 'once' 8 hour protection suncream from Boots and tbf I can understand why. Its so thick, like emulsion and really sits on the skin so it feels very tacky.

Going into town to find something different tomos, looking for something that is a high protection, suitable for a 7yo, lasts a good 5-6hours, is light on the skin, not sticky and easy for dd to apply herself - any tips welcome Grin

Itsjustafleshwound · 17/07/2013 21:12

You need UVA and UVB protection. There isn't that much protection difference (1%) between SPF30 and higher one.

Regular application and hat

Has anyone seen [[

parasaurolophus · 17/07/2013 21:14

Yes! Paid a fortune for "ultrasun" at Waitrose and it works better than anything else I ahve ever tried.

I didn't even get a little bit browner and spent all day in the sun

Itsjustafleshwound · 17/07/2013 21:17

Sorry - it is a pretty good clip called 'Dear 16 yo me ...' About melanoma survivors ..

whitewineandchocolate · 17/07/2013 21:19

Another big fan of P20 - myself husband & kids & have never burned. Agree it can be a bit messy on pale clothes etc.

valiumredhead · 17/07/2013 21:21

P20 is fab for my super fair family.

Angelico · 17/07/2013 21:25

P20 brilliant beyond belief but it destroyed my beautiful white crochet cardigan so I have a love hate relationship with the stuff.

Hekkie · 17/07/2013 21:31

P20 is fab! I won't use anything else on my english rose complexion. I've converted hubby too. Comrade - they've changed the formula so it only takes 10-15 mins to dry.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/07/2013 21:32

p20 is fab, i put on all the kiddiwinks i look after (nanny) before school/beginning of day in holidays and always protects them :)

katydid02 · 17/07/2013 21:44

soltan once works well here as well and no orange tops either.
Works well on olive and gingery skin too.
