New sandals wanted - non Birkenstock, non Granny

GoingToBedfordshire · 24/03/2012 14:45

As the title says really.

I do loads of walking and need flat soles. Nothing against Birkenstocks, just that everyone has them (although you are all going to tell me there is probably a reason for that...) Nothing against Grannies either, I hope to be one one day. I just don't want to look like one just yet.

So, suggestions anyone?

I love birkies, but anyway...

MrsKitty · 24/03/2012 14:49

Watching... I havent actually commited to birkenstocks yet but might have to if there's no suitable alternative.

PosiePumblechook · 24/03/2012 14:53

I have Clarks, they are really worth a look this year.

fanjolina · 24/03/2012 14:59

What about Papillon?

GoingToBedfordshire · 24/03/2012 15:04

Do you have a link Fanjolina? Not immediately obvious when I googled.

Thanks Posie, will have a look

I thought Papillon & Birkenstocks were one and the same?

supernannyisace · 24/03/2012 15:09

I often buy Clarks sandals. They are not always very 'Granny'.

MaeMobley · 24/03/2012 15:09

PS: I adore my Birkenstocks - which is a bad sign as I have no style whatsoever.

GoingToBedfordshire · 24/03/2012 15:12

Ah yes, just changed the search terms and they are one and the same, thank you Mae.

Looking at Clarks now...

fanjolina · 24/03/2012 15:23

Oh I didn't know they were the same - sorry. My sis had a pair.

bronze · 24/03/2012 15:34

I have these and love them. Very comfy and look better on
I have them in black and dark brown and am tempted by the pewter ones

GoingToBedfordshire · 24/03/2012 19:55

Argh, should have said I don't like toe posts - thanks for all suggestions.

This is hard - maybe I should just go with rookiemater's ones and be done with it

OP posts:
bronze · 24/03/2012 20:00

I don't like normal toe posts, can't wear birkies or normal flipflops but find the ones I posted remarkably comfortable and I don't feel the post

thisisyesterday · 24/03/2012 20:01

i want a pair of saltwater sandals.... then again, i am totally un-stylish

ChablisLover · 24/03/2012 20:23

Would recommend the saltwater sandals. Bought a pair last summer and they are so comfy. Those and a pair of clarks originals got me through.

Birkis were out today though. Good for around the house but when running after a 5 year old on a scooter need something that won't fall off.

GoingToBedfordshire · 25/03/2012 10:43

I like the look of the Saltwater sandals v much - more geeky than granny, but that is ok.

Thanks for the rec - www.toast.co.uk have them for £49, any idea if they are cheaper elsewhere online?

OP posts:
cocolepew · 25/03/2012 10:48

I like these

mumblechum1 · 25/03/2012 10:54

I have these in v pale pink and they are incredibly comfortable.

www.clarks.co.uk/p/

or how about these:

Birkenstops=Granny in my book.

shrinkingnora · 25/03/2012 11:16

I always go for teva but am in no way stylish - I just always go for technical kit where possible. Their hiking sandals are astoundingly comfortable and you can walk miles in them. here

BettyBathroom · 25/03/2012 11:28

I like the Saltwater silver toe posts.

PippiL · 25/03/2012 11:30

I don't know what people have against birkies. They are very good for your feet too. They give good arch support with the moulded footbed and are great for bunions or anyone with any foot, knee or back problems.

I'm buying some mayori or tabora style ones.

Papillon are the same make but the more patterned style ones.

winefairy · 25/03/2012 13:00

Saltwater are fabulous. DD and I will be wearing them all this summer. Not even geeky never mind granny. I give you.......Alexa Chung in Saltwater.

They are difficult to find though and Toast may be your best bet. Stockists here but those are mainly for the child version.

BettyBathroom · 25/03/2012 13:11

Birkies are the stuff of Yummy Mummies...so maybe you could call them a tad mumsy but I don't know any Grannies who would be happy in Birkies.
