New sandals wanted - non Birkenstock, non Granny

As the title says really.

I do loads of walking and need flat soles. Nothing against Birkenstocks, just that everyone has them (although you are all going to tell me there is probably a reason for that...) Nothing against Grannies either, I hope to be one one day. I just don't want to look like one just yet.

So, suggestions anyone?

Ah, I am misunderstood. Am after sandals which are neither Birkenstocks NOR Granny - I do not think Birkenstocks are Granny. Round here it is as PP just said, every other mother is wearing them. I don't doubt that they are comfy and good for feet, am just after something else.

I maintain the Saltwater Sandals are geeky, AC is geek chic personified, no? But that is fine, geeky is good!

Thanks all for the input, much appreciated, new sandals here I come.

these are great I got them last summer and didn't think I would wear them like I did and I got them out yesterday and still love them! Look great with skinnies shorts and I am wearing today with green harem trousers and little top and they seem to go with everything. really recommend them not granny at all

thisisyesterday · 25/03/2012 14:37

the only worry I have with the saltwater sandals (have also looked at the clarks one noddyholder linked to) is that they're really very flat

i normally wear birkenstocks as they don't make my feet ache... worried the flatness of the others will mean aching feet

Yes old lad chic very in! They look good with everything! There is a really nice pair in these weeks times style supplement.Top shop I think like birkies but grey with flowers and vert pretty Can't find on website

supernannyisace · 25/03/2012 18:41

noddy I ordered those last summer - but they were waaaay too narrow fitting for my feet.

I was disappointedas they are so cool.

Bienchen · 25/03/2012 18:48

Didn't Heidi Klum design Birkenstocks a couple of seasons back, don't find her very granny-ish ;) I have a pair in purple patent and I can't see them as a pair of granny sandals. Also, they are very comfortable.

I still have (lots of) other sandals but for days when I know I will be walking or standing a lot, the Birkenstocks are hard to beat.

GoingToBedfordshire · 25/03/2012 20:04

One last q before I order the Saltwater sandals.

Those if you who have them, how is the sizing? Should I size up/down or go for my usual size?

Thank you, you helpful folk

I ordered the saltwater in my normal size and they fit fine.

Had also ordered the kestrel soar noddy linked to last summer Blush

Out of them both, the saltwater are softer but the Clarks ones are lovely too.

Am wearing my salt waters today as the weather is soo good.

GoingToBedfordshire · 26/03/2012 21:04

Brilliant, will just order my usual size then.

Thanks ChablisLover

The saltwater ones look good but are they comfortable? They do look a bit flat which can make your feet sore if you do lots of walking...

frankie76 · 26/03/2012 22:17

Yes that's my question are they comfortable?

GoingToBedfordshire · 26/03/2012 22:34

Only time will tell - have just ordered, but will report back.

I usually wear Vivo Barefoot pumps/trainers which have incredibly thin and flat soles, so hopefully the Saltwaters will be comfortable.

Free delivery at Toast atm btw.

Saltwater are very comfortable and you can wear them in water.

HepHep · 27/03/2012 13:21

Can I just ask before I buy some salt-waters too, what is the width like? Anyone with wide-ish feet tried them? As they are leather I'm guessing they'd mould to my feet but no good for me if they are wildly narrow to start with.

Quite excited now, I was stressing about what sandals to get for summer but they are completely me. I must be geeky Grin

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 27/03/2012 14:01

I have two pairs of timberland sandals - one pair I've had for four years, another for three - both super comfy and incredibly durable, never had blisters from them.

More fashion but comfy were some j shoes Capri sandals, had for two Years but they're trashed.

winefairy · 27/03/2012 14:14

HepHep Saltwater are narrow. I haven't tried this style but according to the lovely people at Toast they stretch to fit which was true of the previous style I bought. Apparently, because you can wear them in water they are designed to shape to your feet the first time you get them wet.

I have ordered a couple of pairs of this style though and will let you know how narrow they are when they arrive. I have the world's widest feet. Officially.

Fitflops are great - so comfy!

HepHep · 27/03/2012 17:58

Thanks wine, I'd appreciate knowing your first impressions of the saltwater ones.

Housemum · 28/03/2012 14:08

Curse you, Mumsnet, I was trying not to spend but it is my birthday tomorrow...

thinneratforty · 28/03/2012 14:57

What colours have you gone for in the saltwater ones? I just can't decide (and can only really afford one pair!)

likethemapples · 28/03/2012 19:50

I have the red saltwater sandals and love them. They seem quite wide to me and very comfy.

S12iR gives you 10% off and I think free postage at Toast
