New sandals wanted - non Birkenstock, non Granny

GoingToBedfordshire · 24/03/2012 14:45

As the title says really.

I do loads of walking and need flat soles. Nothing against Birkenstocks, just that everyone has them (although you are all going to tell me there is probably a reason for that...) Nothing against Grannies either, I hope to be one one day. I just don't want to look like one just yet.

So, suggestions anyone?

I also find the saltwaters wide and I would have wide feet. Pity as the rest of me is so dainty!! GrinGrin lol!

This thread has made me look at the toast website again and I love them in the red and navy. I have them in the brown (goes with anything) but would be sorely tempted to navy or red. White seems too toddler for me.

And this thread earned me a mumsnet email mention. Thanks mnhq. So proud. Grin

THose saltwater sandals are gorgeous!
I have just got these kurt geiger metallic flats which I adore, and these beauties from hush which I equally love. Big fan of flats.

granule · 29/03/2012 15:04

if anyone's considering the Clarks ones that noddy mentioned the code BALLOONS gets you 20% off and free delivery.

I can't decide, I love a stone-cold classic like the Clarks Originals but ASOS have a good range in this season. Also spotted som [http://www.johnlewis.com/304256/Product.aspx?source=46387 Dr scholl]] that I quite fancy too..

HepHep · 30/03/2012 10:50

I cracked and ordered the saltwater ones in brown a few days ago Grin Missed the 10% off posted here, dammit. Never mind. I'm hoping they will arrive today and I'll post back what I thought. realllllly hope they fit as I so want to like them, they will go with all my floaty hippy dresses, and not a flip flop or toe post sandal in sight.
Fingers crossed.

HepHep · 30/03/2012 13:17

Okay, mine are here and I'm wearing them now! :) First impressions are favourable, my feet are doing that 'squishing the sides out beyond the edges' thing, but the leather is more than taking it and all in all they feel very comfortable. Very happy! Grin They definitely won't be going back. I think they're going to wear in very well, especially after they first get wetted.

MyleeneCrass · 30/03/2012 18:28

I have Saltwater floral sandals even with postage they are a lot cheaper if you buy them from the states.

MyleeneCrass · 30/03/2012 18:32

BTW, I've had mine about 5 years and they are still going strong.

Housemum · 30/03/2012 18:39

I would have ordered them from the US but wanted to try them on first (no local stockists except child sizes) - have ordered the red ones from Toast on the basis that brown would go with anything but is perhaps too sensible, and I don't like dark colours on sandals personally. Perhaps I would if I had smaller feet!

thisisyesterday · 30/03/2012 19:00

myleene, could you recommend a website that will deliver them from the US for under £45?

Lastyearsmodel · 31/03/2012 18:08

Oh. Oh my. I don't know what I love more - my divine new tan Saltwaters or to lot for putting me onto them and getting me 10% off.

Feedback for the wide of foot: I am a wide 41 (broad toes, narrow ankle/heel) and the 42s fit fine. The way the straps interlink leaves you room to slightly adjust where you need the width, like across your foot or across toes, etc.

I am so happy, thank you OP and others.

Lastyearsmodel · 31/03/2012 18:08

To lot? You lot. See? I'm overcome.

GoingToBedfordshire · 01/04/2012 12:56

Mine arrived last Fri and I am v happy. The fit is great, no rubbing after a few hours wear and the flat sole is extremely comfortable. Got them in red - imo they look lovely.

Bit gutted that I started the thread as I was looking for something different and the saltwater sandals ended upon the Mumsnet Swears By email, but never mind!

Thanks v much for the rec, I really love them. Wish I could get some for my daughters, but fear that the four of us clad identically would look fairly ridiculous!

MyleeneCrass · 01/04/2012 13:01

I've been wondering about starting a UK mail order for Saltwater stocking all the colours as they are hard to get hold of over here.

thisisyesterday · 01/04/2012 13:21

where do you buy yours from myleene? am trying to find somewhere that can ship to the UK

thisisyesterday · 01/04/2012 13:23

ooh actually just found this place

the sandals are $40 and the shipping is $20 which is about £38

MyleeneCrass · 01/04/2012 13:23

I bought mine from mysaltwatersandals, but the exchange rate was $2 to £1 when I bought them so they were £25
In order to make the best profit it must be best to order wholesale from the manufacturer?

thisisyesterday · 01/04/2012 13:24

does anyone know what US size I would need to order if I'm a UK 6?

NoMoreInsomnia12 · 01/04/2012 13:31

Merrells very nice, well made too but a bit pricey.

I have these in red:

Zoidberg · 01/04/2012 13:53

thisisyesterday just looked at your link, I can't see where they say shipping to Europe/UK, says they ship to USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

thisisyesterday · 01/04/2012 20:02

bum yes, i think you're right

i just e-mailed mysaltwatersandals and they said they only ship within the US?

will carry on looking

MyleeneCrass · 01/04/2012 23:37

I definitely got mine from mysaltwatersandals, but as I said upthread that was 5 years ago.

anniewoo · 02/04/2012 08:55

I'd love to wear Birkenstock but my third toe is too long and therefore my foot doesn't fit the 'footbed'.

oohlalabonbons · 04/04/2012 11:23

Clicked on this thread looking for inspiration!
Love my Birkies as they are so comfy, but fancied a change - have worn them for the past 5 years and feel like an update. The trouble is, I have plantar fasciitis so cannot wear very flat shoes. Love the saltwaters and similar in Clark's, but I wouldn't last 5 minutes.
Any suggestions?!

letseatgrandma · 04/04/2012 22:57

I've worn nothing but Birkies for eight summers now and have experimented this year with these

They are really comfortable!

oohlalabonbons · 05/04/2012 15:19

Ooh, they look comfy - not sure about the big buckle though?
