So, I want to wax my bikini line - anyone else do it themselves?

I'm going to Boots later so will hopefully be buying some self waxing things for the bikini line. I'm a complete novice so am I likely to balls it up? anyone else do it themselves?

I did it once. Remember, you have to pull the skin tight as you do it, otherwise you will bruise. remembers going on holiday 2 days after self waxing, and having to wear shorts for the first week

Yep. You need to use hot wax - which is wax that you use without strips. It is designed for sensitive areas. Nads do a version for the bikini like (available in Boots).

I used to do fine with the cold wax strips. I'm well 'ard, though.

I'd like to do it myself also to save on cost - does it hurt more than in the salon where they know what they're doing ?

If you are going to use cold strips (I do as I make too much mess with the hot wax) the Nair ones are a million times better than the Immac (or whatever they're called now - Veet?) ones.

Also put some talc on first, it allows the wax to get a better grip on the hair.

Did it once, never again. Couldn't stretch skin enough with one hand, ended up with bruises for first few days, followed by huge Red pimples for a week. I dry shave with talc now, only thing which doesn't irritate.

I've been meaning to ask this question for weeks and this seems a suitable thread (sorry for hi-jack OP) - I was planning to use Nair cream to do my bikini line, bought it, was about to start when I saw it says not to use on scars. I have a CS scar - why can't I use it? Should I risk it? What's the worst that could happen?

Another DON'T DO IT here! I tried it once and my god it was awful!!!

Ended up with very bruised, red, pimply skin - even worse was the wax stuck in my pubes which was too painful to scrap away because of all the bruising!

So glad I chose the week before my honeymoon to try my very first (and only) home wax! OUCH!!!!

Don't do it - I've tried before and failed miserably. Used to go to a salon every 4 weeks for waxing and the more you do it the easier it is. However, when you live with someone being fluffy just isn't an option - I use veet in the shower every morning with no problems.

I'd also say go to a salon and get it done professionally - I get a brazilian every 4 weeks at strip wax bar and they're fab - it really doesn't hurt.

MrsMartin - confused by your being fluffy comment - do you mean you wouldn't want the re-growth because you live with someone?

Re-growth has never got in the way of my passion and have lived with DH for 15 years!!

OP, just go to a salon. Particularly if you are a novice. Takes less than 10 minutes and no messing about.

I just don't like it - don't think DH would care in the least but I like to be SMOOTH! And ahem - if we can get stubble rash from kissing their faces...Wink

I just don't like bodyhair full stop - I even shave my forearms...think it looks horrible for a woman to have hairy arms...

this is really interesting - my hair grows at quite a rate and the wax doesn't last long on me. Mrsm - do you find that it's possible to use depilatory cream every day without being overly sensitive on your bits? Which cream do you find best?

either a beautician (I used to refer to mine as helga the horrible, even though she was a sweetheart and it didn't actually hurt me Hmm) or a hair removal cream if you want to do it yourself.

Nair sensitive cream is amazing. Gets all the hair off, soft regrowth and doesn't sting. You can put it everywhere if you know what I mean...

All for anyone having the choice to do what they want with their body, and sorry for the hijack, but seriously, it's not disgusting to have hair on your arms.

Maybe you don't like how it looks, but disgusting is pretty pejorative.
