Am I asking for the impossible? Simple, stylish bags.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I want a decent, large bag that is going to last me a long time. I am willing to spend a lot on it, but it has to be simple, gorgeous leather, preferably tan, but would consider other colours. I can't stand the designer bags in the shops covered in logos and hideous metal. Even Mulberry is ugly now with that huge, gold, oval disk on the front.

Any ideas?

Dooney and Bourke? The leather is almost equestrian-grade so they are very hardwearing. I am not a fan of those squishy leather bags that lose their shape so quickly.

Antidote · 04/01/2012 19:03

I always post a link to this site (and then sit here drooling over the bags)

Oh the other problem for me is that I am tight. I would never pay £300 for a bag.

Antidote · 04/01/2012 19:04

Arse

Link bit tricky on phone

Oh I love the Mimi one

tethersend · 04/01/2012 20:38

This is lovely, but unlined, which I think is a shame...

swanfall · 04/01/2012 20:42

I LOVE loads of the Dooney and Mimi Berry ones:

Dooney 1
Dooney 2
Mimi clementine
Mimi peggy
OK not what I'm looking for but I love it

You have totally tempted me away from Mulberry! If anyone has any more lovely suggestions I am all ears...

xpost with the Peggy tethersend!

Why is the peggy unlined if the others have linings? I have a bee in my bonnet about it now Grin

swanfall · 04/01/2012 20:45

It's odd isn't it. But thinking about it, a lot of traditional satchels are unlined so maybe that's what they're going for.

I don't understand the unlined thing either. It always looks unfinished to me. Perhaps because the lining is more quickly destroyed than the leather and is difficult to repair/replace?

yellowraincoat · 04/01/2012 21:11

I prefer unlined bags. The lining always rips and then you lose things in it.

Popbiscuit · 04/01/2012 21:16

Mmm...good point. I always ruin the linings too with inky pens, spilled kid snacks etc.

justonemorejingle · 04/01/2012 21:22

Try looking for Furla bags - sorry, don't know how to do links

swanfall · 05/01/2012 08:44

I think I'm being thick - can anyone help me? Which colour bag is the model wearing in this picture ? It looks brown but I'm wondering whether they are calling it tan and the two to the side are the camel and brown, as only camel, tan and brown are available to buy.

OP posts:
Fregley · 05/01/2012 09:05

i dont like all these ones that look liek suitcases

methinks huge bags are rather dated. PLUS i loathe brown - why so much sodding brwon

Bienchen · 05/01/2012 09:25

only in red and brown but leather and leather lined, not a tassel in sight and not too much hardware to make it heavy as the leather will be heavy enough

Ive had my jane shilton handbag for about 5yrs and its still looking good, lots of choice and all come with good warranty on them, the zip broke on mine a couple of months ago and no questions were asked just sent it off and got it back fixed within the week. can't complain about that!

swanfall · 05/01/2012 10:17

Jane Shilton has some nice ones. I've never heard of her. Clearly I don't shop for bags often enough!

I'm not keen on Furla, but thank you justonemore

The mimi berry peggy is still calling me, unlined or not!

swanfall · 05/01/2012 10:18

Bienchen, that one's a bit too formal for me, but thanks.

Problem with them unlined though is that they look shabby really quickly imo on the inside. The Mulberry bays is unlined and I just don't like it... :(

minipie · 05/01/2012 15:58

Oh I loooove some of those Dooney ones, especially this.

and this

and this would be wonderful without the tassels and the bloody logo Angry

fashiondisasterwaiting · 05/01/2012 16:00

I love quite a few of the ones being suggested on this thread, but they're so beyond my ££££s - sigh!
