Are you all nursing hangovers or just clearing up the post Christmas mess?

OP posts:
motherinferior · 09/01/2012 21:24

I re-read them, though....

I don't love all of them equally but will bestow my favours, in moments of desperation, on many of them. I like a harem Grin

And in all honesty I never feel I do have many books. I'm often desperate for something to read!

Blackduck · 10/01/2012 06:03

There is no such thing as too many books, except when you are having to pack them.

bigTillyMint · 10/01/2012 10:56

Fridge freezer died in the night, so (having had an Ocado delivery last night Angry) I have spent the morning moving rapidly defrosting food about to our other freezer and next door, and paying a freezer repair man to confirm that it has died. And I am now looking for a replacement urgently - not that easy or cheap as it is a non-standard size and I don't want to get something crappy to replace it........

Anyway, and more importantly for you crepeys, have heard back from BFI booking - they can do a table in the restaurant for 11, but not reserve a space in the bar before as they have taken the maximum amount of bookings for that area already Hmm

What shall we do - go and take pot-luck on the bar anyway? I could try asking if they could do an area for say 6 and then we could expand as more people arrive?

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 10/01/2012 12:08

Commiserations on the demise of your freezer, BTM. Hope you manage to find an appropriate replacement soon.

Re: BFI - I would go with your "area for a smaller number in the bar" suggestion.

bigTillyMint · 10/01/2012 12:22

I have emailed her back - apparently you can't book the lounge/larger parties over the phoneHmm I knew I wouldn't do as good a job as wilbur Sad

New FF is ordered at vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast expense Shock Now I just have to wait for it to be delivered (and no doubt have time off work for the pleasure)

bigTillyMint · 10/01/2012 12:44

OMG! I think we might want to change our venue - just had an email back - they are expecting about 200 ladies - part of a monthly event that is held in the bar, so we might be pressed finding a space Sad

They could still do the table in the restaurant.

So what's our plan???????

I know! We might just get sucked into it Grin

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 10/01/2012 13:23

Oh blimey. That sounds like a bit of a crush. Any other venue suggestions??

The Archduke was nice last time I went there. In 1988. Grin

Seriously, what were the other places that were suggested last time? Anyone remember?

Herbs, where are you? You had a couple of interesting venue suggestions last time.

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 10/01/2012 13:32

Have found old thread.

Here is one Herbs suggested: Bar and Kitchen

and Wilbur suggested RSJ in Coin St.

I'm here! I stand by my bar and kitchen recommendation, or perhaps the bar upstairs at the New Vic? There are lots of nice little pubs round Waterloo, but they'll be hideous rammed on a Saturday night. Another option could be Skylon, but it's a bit pricey. Or what about a bar area of the National Theatre or Royal Festival Hall? Bit classy, not too busy (well, once the play/concert has started), and near BFI eatery.

In other news, I too have far too many books, and occasionally skim off the scum and take them to our periodic choir book sales. DP has an extensive 'doom shelf' ? full of books about climate change, economic collapse, peak oil, etc - which I'm sure could be decimated, if only for his mental health. Out of sight, out of mind, I say.

An old pal who's been in Jamaica for two years is back! And is coming round for a cuppa this afternoon! Most looking forward. She's lovely lovely lovely. And last saw DS when he was a few days old. d

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 10/01/2012 14:16

Pssst, herbs, it's a Friday. The 20th. Well, I hope it is, or I'll be very lonely in whatever venue we decide on... Grin

Enjoy your afternoon.

I have finally pressed send on the last bit of coursework which was supposed to be done a month ago (ahem), but the course admins seem to be v. forgiving, thank goodness. A bit Hmm about the actual course content now and am not too sure what I have really learnt. Possibly because I am so crepey that I have already forgotten what we did at the beginning of the course 3 months ago. Oh well. At least I tried. Smile

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 10/01/2012 14:18

See, my brain is so enfeebled due to hormonal befuddlement that I couldn't even work out that the word "course" definitely didn't need that many repetitions in the last post. Gah. Time to take the dog out.

Kryste. My mind thought 'Friday', yet my hands typed 'Saturday'. Senility has set in twixt brain and fingers.

In my defence, I have spent the morning at soft play, and about half an hour persuading DS to cross the road in a sensible fashion, and not lie down in the middle of it giving me a heart attack.

DukesOfTripHazard · 10/01/2012 14:39

Bar and Kitchen sound most accommodating from their reviews...

bigTillyMint · 10/01/2012 15:30

Right, shall I try for the Bar+Kitchen - then we can just stay put which might be easier if people are coming and going at different times? I will try to find out from them if that's poss.......

And I will be there on Friday at 6 tooGrin

Congratulations on getting rid of the coursework Huffy - I did a very nit-picky course about 3 years ago and it drove me even madder than I already was!

bigTillyMint · 10/01/2012 15:35

Right. Have just rung the Waterloo Bar + Kitchen and spoke to very nice girl who has reserved us a table from 6pm. I just have to remember to ring back on the day (Friday 20th Jan for those of us with wobbly memories as well as guntsSmile) and confirm exact numbers.

I hope that's OK with everyone? If not, I can cancel it!

bigTillyMint · 10/01/2012 15:37

This is the most up-to-date list, I think!
