what does it actually smell like?
is it worth the price tag?

I wear Chanelle Cristalle, it's a lovely fresher scent than no5 which I find a bit overbearing

LynetteScavo · 28/12/2011 15:59

Knowing by Estelle Lauder is hideous. My boss wore it when I was pg with DS1 - it just made me throw up. Very Blush when you don't want to let on your are pregnant and you are in the same car.

Chanel Cristalle is really, really lovely.

looks like ill be going to Debenhams with a list then....lots to try!

I love Mitsouko, too. Didn't like it much when I was young, but have grown into it. It was Mrs Thatcher's favourite, though, and I wouldn't have thought we had much else in common!

emsyj · 28/12/2011 16:19

Funny how people have different tastes, I think Cristalle smells like a bathroom cleaning product! Vile stuff.

LynetteScavo · 28/12/2011 16:20

I imagine Mrs T smelling of No5.

Cristalle fans - do you wear the original or the Eau Verte? I lived in the original Cristalle in my teens and twenties, and still have a fondness for it - but now prefer the Cristalle Eau Verte.

emsyj · 28/12/2011 16:34

That's very true HRH - see my earlier pondering post lamenting how Beautiful smells, well, beautiful on my sister, but like a festival of chemicals on me. Most unfair!!! And very annoying after I bought a giant 100ml eau de parfum at great expense - I couldn't wear it, it gave me a headache and made me nauseous. Still smells amazing on sis tho... Hmm

FootballFriendSays · 28/12/2011 21:54

I can't believe I'm researching perfumes worn by Thatcher, but according to this Daily Mail article she didn't wear much (or so Edwina Currie remembers). Thank god, not Chanel 5.

my mum wore chanel no 5, will foreve link it with her, it's nice to have something to remember her by (perpitrates the old lady myth Wink)

Appuskidu · 28/12/2011 22:07

I love Chanel no 5 and am only early 30s!

That's my perfume of choice, but also love Estee Lauder-White Linen, Kenzo Flowers, Dior Addict, Miss Dior and Estee Lauder Beyond Paradise.

I fancy something Lily-like though next as I had lilies in my wedding bouquet. Any recommendations??

LoveInASnowyClimate · 28/12/2011 22:09

Haven't read whole thread, but No 5 smells amazing on my mother and awful on me. Somehow it reacts with my skin to create a strong and distinctive smell of cat wee. I am not exaggerating for comic effect, it's a horrible smell and really does smell of tomcat piss.

LoveInASnowyClimate · 28/12/2011 22:11

Apuskidu - Penhalligan's Lily & Spice is delicious and currently reduced from £100 to £25!

eandz · 28/12/2011 22:11

I have it, my DH gave it to me...I feel bad but it's just not my favorite scent.

emsyj · 28/12/2011 22:19

Diorissimo is very lily of the valley - very old-fashioned scent.

I love Penhaligon's - the stuff in there just smells more sophisticated and expensive than the perfumes you get on the makeup counters. Although as a total perfume addict, I still love all the makeup counter perfumes too.

DH wears Opus 1870 from Penhaligon's and I could inhale it all day.

LoveInASnowyClimate · 28/12/2011 22:24

Oooh, emsy, my DH wears that, and my father wears English Fern. Both lovely. I love Penhaligans.

emsyj · 28/12/2011 22:29

I've never found another Penhaligon's fan before LoveInASnowyClimate - pleased to find one!!! It's a fab shop, feels so luxurious.

LoveInASnowyClimate · 28/12/2011 22:33

It's lovely, isn't it, emsy - so old fashioned in a good way and such wonderful, evocative scents. I find most "designer" scent smells like air freshener or chocolate on my skin (other than Guerlain) but Penhaligans never does.

I wear No.5, and also Coco Madamoiselle.

No.5 is lovely, and very grown up.

I cannot stand all the sickly, flowery vile stuff that is around atm.

Fregley · 29/12/2011 05:19

Try the prada perfumes OP, are similar ish

noddyholder · 29/12/2011 10:11

I wear no.5 always have though it feels elegant and classic. people still ask me what it is which surprises me. I wear Anick goutal too sometimes and I often wear aqua di parma Iris in the day
