Monsoon - wtaf?

The stock they have online looks like bad Per Una. Awful, hideously old-fashioned looking garments. Ugh. It was my go-to place, guaranteed to find something I'd love shop (much like Next until 5 years ago).

Where can I shop now?!

I'm loving Great Plains atm. Loads of bargains in their sale.

roundcornsilkvirgin · 26/12/2011 21:22

Monsoon has always been overpriced tat

Grockle · 26/12/2011 21:24

I used to love monsoon - lots of my pretty dresses & tops are from there and people often complement me when I wear them but I've not found anything there recently.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 26/12/2011 21:25

i bought that Great Plains dress with the birds on it and wore it on Christmas Day. Great dress, utterly CRAP fabric though, which has bobbled and worn after one wearing. have emailed them about sending it back, it was £70 inc delivery ffs, i should be able to wear it more than once.

Grockle · 26/12/2011 21:25

I only ever bought in the sale though , when they did good discounts - £80 dresses for £20 etc. Would never pay full price.

trixymalixy · 26/12/2011 21:29

That's rubbish Aitch. I bought the bird dress in both colours and have worn them loads and they are fine.

trixymalixy · 26/12/2011 21:31

As in it's rubbish for you Aitch, not that you are talking rubbish!!!

Grockle · 26/12/2011 21:32

So where else other than great plains?

moondog · 26/12/2011 21:33

I go and look at Monsoon shoes when i wanbt a laugh.
Fugly (as fuck)

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 26/12/2011 21:46

i am, broadly-speaking, very pro-GAP. i know that they like their shite-and-vom palette a little too much but so many of their dresses look so utterly awful on the hanger that you can pick them up for a tenner in the sale. i take armfuls into the dressing-rooms and always come out with something really great.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 26/12/2011 21:47

really, trix? i don't know why this is so gubbed, it's terrible. was wearing with an open twinset cardie nipped at waist and the tits are bobbletastic.

trixymalixy · 26/12/2011 22:02

I don't know Aitch, maybe just a different batch of fabric? I bought mine in the summer, then they were out of stock for ages, so maybe the fabric from the second batch was slightly different?

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 26/12/2011 23:55

i hope they're decent about it, anyway. i should be able to get more than one wear out of a sixty-odd quid frock. (AND IT'S NOT EVEN LINED. Shock)

trixymalixy · 27/12/2011 00:33

Definitely a different batch then as mine are both lined!!

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 27/12/2011 01:39

bastards. really? oh that has pissed me right off.

partytights · 27/12/2011 02:04

Zara are great, I find.

Grockle · 27/12/2011 08:48

I'd be cross too, aitch.

Zara is for people significantly taller than me (5'3) - their skirts and trousers trail on the ground behind me.

I used to like fat face & white stuff & wallis but have had nothing for ages. Maybe I need to ho yo the old lady floor in debenhams.

Luminescence · 27/12/2011 08:51

Zara are terrible quality. I like monsoon great plains and Laura ashley

NatureAbhorsAHoover · 27/12/2011 09:30

Have been a bit surprised with good things from Phase Eight Xmas Blush lately... and it's all at least 50% off in the sales. It's getting less frilly and overdone that it used to be. Agree about the crapness of monsoon.

ILOUminatedXmasTree · 27/12/2011 09:34

I have never really looked at Great Plains but am loving their sale stuff. Might just have to buy some bits.....

DaisySteiner · 27/12/2011 09:38

How does Great Plains sizing come up? I'm a size 12 in most places, 10 in some.

noddyholder · 27/12/2011 09:39

Monsoon and next should never be seen inn style and beauty! Great plains v good quality

noddyholder · 27/12/2011 09:40

In not inn

JenniferEight · 27/12/2011 09:41

Monsoon used to be great about 7-8 years ago (we had an outlet here, ohhh yes) but was always overpriced.

Now they make such ugly clothes, it's really sad. My mother wanted to get me a voucher for there and I didn't have the heart to tell her they're not really any good any more.

I don't know where I buy clothes tbh. TKmaxx for jeans, Toast occasionally (only in the depths of the sale though and they piss me off with their pretentiousness) and erm, topshop? Maybe once in a blue moon. H&M ok for some basics too (checked shirts etc).

JenniferEight · 27/12/2011 09:42

Oh and Kew occasionally, they are lovely online, great customer service etc. but in the shop we have they look down their nose at you and won't take returns without a lot of faff.

They have sale stuff in the shop though. I just buy it if I am really sure about it and it's like a tenner or whatever.
