The stock they have online looks like bad Per Una. Awful, hideously old-fashioned looking garments. Ugh. It was my go-to place, guaranteed to find something I'd love shop (much like Next until 5 years ago).

Where can I shop now?!

I like Zara you have to be selective re quality but it is generally ok. Gap is good for jeans and t shirts and I like cos for dresses and Wool. I also shop in charity shops a lot.

ILOUminatedXmasTree · 27/12/2011 09:47

If I was going to get anything from Great Plains what do they do best? Its hard to see from website as there are no reviews.

I am 5 foot 3 with large norkage and a bit of a tummy. Usually a size 12 bottom and 12/14 top but that is due to norks.

JenniferEight · 27/12/2011 10:13

Oh bollocks. You know I've just gone and looked at GP and Kew and ended up buying the birdy skirt, and a pair of cords for £12, and a really nice dress from kew. rose this one.

I'm now even poorer than I was ten minutes ago!

JenniferEight · 27/12/2011 10:15

sorry I don't know why it says rose. How bizarre.

CeliaChristmasFete · 27/12/2011 10:28

I find Zara sizing bizarre - I bought a short sleeved blouse from there in size M - I could barely get it over my (twig thin) upper arms. I'm a size 10-12 in most places.

TK Maxx where I live is like a huge jumble sale of crap. Never understood why people rave about it - all I see are hideous beaded polyester dresses and it's all cramped on rails that you can't rifle through.

Great Plains is one I've never tried.

Will have a look at Kew too. I looked at Toast and thought their prices are taking the piss. Maybe I'm tight, but I rarely pay full price for anything.

What about Mint Velvet too?

gazzalw · 27/12/2011 10:57

From what DW tells me Zara is meant for stick-like Europeans....it is definitely for the calorie-counting brigade....

TK Maxx is a treasure trove if you can be bothered (or have the time) to really delve thro' everything. Have a SIL who is a size 8 and she finds some brilliant things in there but she is tall, slim and very patient.....

Spooklegeek · 27/12/2011 13:13

I have just bought a shed load of stuff in the Great Plains sale & love love love it (never bought there before). Am only returning one item out of about 7 oops! I even gambled on jeans (an online jeans purchase & not with free returns!!) & they fit me like a glove :)

CointreauHoHoHoVersial · 27/12/2011 21:39

Talking of Monsoon, has anyone seen this monstrosity in store this season? It was in their ads and everything. I just had to go into our local store to see if it was really as vile in the flesh. It was. I decided then and there that Monsoon had really lost it.

There are hundreds of them on the clearance rail right now. Grin

I think Warehouse is having a bit of a moment right now; I've found quite a few nice things there recently. It is better for "going out" stuff, though.

AKMD · 27/12/2011 22:13

Funnily enough I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I used to love Monsoon but I haven't found anything there recently that I really like. I tried on a couple of nice dresses but the fit was very odd.

ZZZenAgain · 27/12/2011 22:15

what on earth was the idea behind that yellow dress? Goodness

southeastastra · 27/12/2011 22:20

on no i quite fancy this \link{http://www.monsoon.co.uk/ivy-fairisle-jumper/invt/93314986/&bklist=icat,5,shop,women,wintersale,wintersaleknitwear\jumper} do you all think it's horrible?

susiedaisy · 27/12/2011 22:23

Same here went into monsoon to find something nice for Xmas time thought I'd treat myself and walked back out the shop empty handed dreadful stuff, so disappointed!

AKMD · 27/12/2011 22:34

Sorry southeastastra, I think it is truly hideous. Kudos to you though for having the curves to consider wearing it!

MustControlMincepieOfDeath · 27/12/2011 22:34

southeast I like it, but I fear it is hideous Hmm

Grockle · 27/12/2011 22:37

Cointreau, my DP tried to convince me that I'd look good in that dress Hmm

AKMD · 27/12/2011 22:38

Oh dear, sorry. I think it looms like a mickey-take of The Christmas Jumper Blush

AKMD · 27/12/2011 22:38

Looms?! looks

talkingnonsense · 27/12/2011 22:39

Southeastastra, that jumper isn't too bad, but you'd have to be slim to carry it off. It looks quite short.

EuphemiaInExcelsis · 28/12/2011 07:42

It's Monsoon's quality that annoys me - I bought a navy cardigan there in the summer and its buttons are painted navy rather than actual navy plastic, such that the blue paint has chipped off revealing white underneath. Angry

There are 20 frigging buttons on the thing.

ILOUminatedXmasTree · 28/12/2011 11:02

What is the returns policy for Great Plains I can't find it on the website?

ILOUminatedXmasTree · 28/12/2011 11:03

Found it hidden away.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 28/12/2011 12:15

well i am in the process of trying to return a dress i bought there which bobbled after the first wear, and they are sayiing that they have to see it first before they will consider a refund. so... not brilliant, iykwim?
