Bare Escentuals: THE DEVIL'S OWN WORK

JodieHarsh · 25/09/2011 17:16

I must post about this. I have just spunked nearly ninety quid on some Bare Escentuals starter kit things.

I arrived at the counter in Stratford Westfield with a hideous bright red, sore, scarred, spotty, sweaty face, and some WITCH managed to take a decade off me with POWDER. Just powder! I mean - WT actual F?! A tube ride and a 20 minute walk home and it's still there. SURELY that's not right. I've used all sorts of super-max coverage matte stuff and it didn't cover ANYTHING like this well. O and I have the glowing rosy cheeks of a teen Shock

I promise I've not been giver a tenner to post this stuff. It's just I've spent so much I feel slightly sick. Does anyone else use this stuff? it's not going to last is it. i'm an idiot. What have I done

"Liz Earle's new tinted moisturiser? I tried a sample and thought it lovely - very, very moisturising, good coverage." - ooh hester I thought the same - it seems to me quite similar to my v v expensive chantacaille tinted moisturiser.

We must get together and talk about boys and make ups

valiumredhead · 03/10/2011 07:58

Oooooooooooh no I disagree! The new Liz Earle stuff is utter shite! Shock Grin

hester · 03/10/2011 08:14

Tell me why, valiumredhead, before I waste my money...

Kew - yes yes yes, let's go and giggle behind the bike shed. Tuesday with one toddler, or half term with full squad of kids?

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 08:48

Sozzles to hear about the unsuccessful flirtations with BE....

I will emphasise that mine goes from AMAZE AMAZE YOU BEAUTEOUS CREATURE YOU to WHY HAVE YOU SHOVED YOUR HEAD IN A GLITTERY CAKE depending on the application, but I'm sure y'all are doing it right and it just doesn't suit. Bah.

Is Liz Earle the woman with the muslin cloth face-washing regime?? Or is that Eve Lom? I am often tempted by that but one step at a time

AnnetteProfit · 03/10/2011 08:50

haha
of COURSE its shit - powdery old cack

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 08:59

How very dare you Shock. I look Galadriel after a good night's kip. So there.

Adore your name btw Grin

Jodie I have just finished a bottle of the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish and wasn't overly impressed. I have "normal" skin with random breakouts. I love Botanics (Boots) Organic Face Soothing Cleansing balm which is similar to Eve Lom but only £7. Just don't use the Muslim cloth they provide with it - it's awful. I cut up my DD's Muslim squares.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 09:18

Ooo that's a helpful tip FannyB, thanks....so is the Botanics thing a facial wash, you know, lather it up rinse it off type biz? Because that's the only cleansing I can be doing with.

I really struggle with facial care generall because although I'm not super super sensitive - like, fully allergical - it does seem to need the gentle touch. I used some Avene stuff a while back and I could feel my skin come up in tiny invisible bumps all over. Same happens if I exfoliate Sad

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 09:20

Am snorting at your dream birds Grin

Sorry 'bout the sorely disappointedness. Bah. Is the BE majick over soooooooon....

Disclaimer: I am still in luuuuuuurve with mine.

hester · 03/10/2011 09:21

I love Eve Lom, and also Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish (and also the toner). At the moment I'm using the REN cleansing balm which is still pricey but half the price of Eve Lom. Only some people like cleansing with a big pot of perfumed lard, though (my skin can't get enough grease and oil, which is why I'm amazed that the Bare Escentuals is working out so well).

Can I just say again: I am AMAZED at the staying power of BE. As I get up at 5.30 on workdays, and usually don't get home before 8, this is a marvellous thing for me. I will probably still use tinted moisturiser at weekends, when I want to look and feel a bit less 'done', but I'm definitely hooked on BE for work and long days.

I think I have now got the hang of swoosh tap buff. Indeed, this morning I went a bit giddy and buffed some of the powder mixed with Warmth over my pale, blotchy, spider-veined legs. Ooh get me.

hester · 03/10/2011 09:22

btw, Jodie, you're a fab writer. Your posts really make me laugh.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 09:23

Yeah the staying power is kind of insane, isn't it. I can't get my head round not travelling with make-up for top-ups for the first time in oooooo, forever. Fucking good job considering the pots aren't exactly designed for tumbling around the bottom of my foetid handbag....

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 09:24

Thanks Hester Blush

MmeLindor. · 03/10/2011 09:30

Jodie
So you use moisturiser then primer?

Mine hasn't arrived yet.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 09:34

Yeah Mme - face wash, moisturiser (about three quarters of an inch of Protect and Perfect, in the hope it'll return me to the limpid days of my youth Hmm), walk around for a bit, feed the cat, trip over the heap of clothes on the bedroom floor, swear, try and find the phone charger, sink half a pint of black coffee, establish that moisturiser has indeed sunk in, primer, buffbuffbuffbuffbuffbuffbuffbuffbuff GORGEOUS.

I MUST emphasise that put it on even slightly wrong - just a tiny touch too much powder, not enough buffing, moisturiser not sunk in etc. - and it will be disastrous and you'll cry tears of Sad.

SingingTunelessly · 03/10/2011 09:36

Cleanse and Polish is rubbish. And my delivery of the bounteous wonderousness magical power has been delayed due to being "Out of Stock".

Dillydollydaydream · 03/10/2011 09:37

Oh Gosh. Hope I like mine when it arrives.
I'll reserve judgement until I've tried it.

Pinot · 03/10/2011 09:40

How much is the perfect amount? To tip into the lid I mean? I'm still experimenting...

MmeLindor. · 03/10/2011 09:41

Do you think that the brand of moisturiser is important?

Worried now that I am going to sabotage my chance of dewy godessness with cheapo Oil of Olay moisturiser.

JodieSwirlTapBuff · 03/10/2011 09:47

Nah, I just use Boots no 7. I mean, P&P sounds a bit posher but it is basically just Boots own brand!

Pinot tiny tiny tiny bits. There should be no visible powder on the brush!

Pinot · 03/10/2011 09:50

Mme I use a Soap and Glory moisturiser in the day and it works fine with it - I use argan oil at night and that really, really wouldn't work - it would get claggy. As long as your moisturiser soaks in with no residue, it'll be fine I'm sure. It's the residue that would bugger it up. Think of the face as a canvas - it must be dry for the powder to float over, otherwise it'll stick.

Thanks Jodie I shall do tiny bit again today. I luffs it :)

Badtasteflump · 03/10/2011 09:51

Sorry if this has already been answered but can't read all 22 pages as am supposed to be working Grin.

I tried some mineral makeup a while ago - not BE - max factor or something like, I think. The results were scarily-bad. I'm mid-thirties and usually have pretty young-looking skin for my age with only a few very fine wrinkles. But after using the mineral foundation I looked ten years older - like it had settled into every tiny little line and drawn a big highlighter pen over it!

So is BE likely to do the same thing? Since my disaster I've heard other people say mineral makeup doesn't suit older skins - is that right?

Thank you!

AnnetteProfit · 03/10/2011 09:56

oh fgs just get some chanel and have done with this shittery

CristinadellaPizza · 03/10/2011 10:00

It's here! I am about to spray paint the garden table and chairs and have my outdoor spray booth all ready. Question is, should I do that first or stop and swirltapbuff and then go back to my chores?

I think I was a bit over-effusive with the postman Blush. Luckily not the normal bloke
