Shorts with tights...

PicknMix · 20/09/2011 23:33

I seem to have developed a bit of an obsession with the idea of wearing shorts with tights for the autumn.

I am 31 and think I may be having a 'I miss my yoof' crisis.

Please talk me out of it.

(unless you think it's acceptable, in which case, please point me in the direction of some smartish shorts, pref in grey Blush)

I reckon even a teenager is a bit old for this 'style' - best left to 'tweenagers' Grin

(there, did I talk you out of it? It is my honest opinion!)

CointreauVersial · 20/09/2011 23:44

I have to say, I haven't seen this look on anyone beyond the age of 20, but if the shorts are smart and you are reasonably "well preserved" you should give it a go.

GaramMasalaGirl · 20/09/2011 23:46

Depends on your legs really......if you have nice legs I don't see why you won't be able to carry this off.

BTW......what kind of shorts are we talking here? I'm not sure about hotpants or denim shorts are they are definitely teenage territory. But if we're talking smart mid-thigh or longer type shorts then I think they'd look great.

GaramMasalaGirl · 20/09/2011 23:48

Oh silly me!......you did say "smartish"

PicknMix · 20/09/2011 23:49

You see, deep down that's my opinion too but I just keep thinking 'oh but maybe...' etc.

You're right though, best left to the tweenagers. Thanks for the confirmation Smile (now I need to find a new style to obsess over, currently stuck in a jeans rut!).

Bugger, phone took too long to update, my post was aimed at Grimma!

And now I've gone full circle - so you think it might be acceptable?

Legs are ok, on the thin side, am 5' 4".

TBH I think it would look great. I don't buy too much into the whole "dress for your age" thing. As long as you don't look completely ridiculous.....like....

Shirley from Eastenders or Liz Macdonald from Corrie

Essential to wear your Ugg boots with them! Grin

Ifancyashandy · 21/09/2011 00:10

Haha! I did this on Sat night! I am never gonna see 40 35 again Grin.

I wore dark grey wool tight, darker grey wool / tweed shorts. And they are shortish and tight! With a light grey & black silk t-shirt, a petrol-y grey cardigan and black biker boots.

I rocked it!

Ifancyashandy · 21/09/2011 00:11

(am tall and legs def best feature)

GaramMasalaGirl · 21/09/2011 00:16

I love it ifancyashandy!! I too am 40 35

Your outfit sounds amazing....I like your style!!

Ooh can I please tell my face story about me? Last year I got ID'd in Tescos for trying to buy a cheap bottle of plonk!!

GaramMasalaGirl · 21/09/2011 00:26

fave story.....not face story....doh!

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 21/09/2011 00:26

Its wrong. sorry. The only things wronger are skinny fit jeans or fucking harem pants. Itll be autumn, freezing, and, you will just look odd. Act your age and wear sufficient clothing for the weather.

AitchTwoOh · 21/09/2011 00:29

last year i wore a pair of baggy turn up wool shorts with tights, biker boots and loose cardi things all through winter. no different to a skirt, imo.

AitchTwoOh · 21/09/2011 00:30

oh and btw they are warmer than jeans etc in winter, what with the nice cabley tights around. much warmer.

Ifancyashandy · 21/09/2011 00:35

Ah, Saggy, is your name the reason why you hate such a look?!

I looked flipping great and I was the warmest one of all me friends (we sat outside till way past bedtime).

Oh, and I wear skinny jeans and have a pair or two of harem pants!

Garam, why thank you! You're obviously still gorgeous too - You and I shall carry on having fun with clothes!

SayItIsntSo · 21/09/2011 00:38

I am afraid I also wear nice, not too short, tailored shorts with thick tights. I had lots of nice comments last year, unless they were being sarcastic Hmm

PootlePosyPerkin · 21/09/2011 00:48

I would consider myself too old for such a style - I'm 36 - but, then again, I have an arse & fat thighs so it probably wouldn't be the best look even if I was 16 Blush.

If you've got the figure/legs for it then why the hell not? Grin.

GaramMasalaGirl · 21/09/2011 00:50

Oh no saggy so according to you I would be mutton?

I have super skinny jeans and high waisted harems and love them with all my heart.

I will never be dictated to by other people's/media's idea of fashion..... Because...."...you're a long time dead"

OP's outfit isn't the edgiest or "out there" and she sounds as though she can carry it off.

SanctiMoanyArse · 21/09/2011 00:51

I liked it enormously on myself circa 1992 LMAO (was my satndard uniform) but tbh if you have the figure and like it go for it, why on earth not? Long time dead and all that.

GaramMasalaGirl · 21/09/2011 00:55

X-post with sancti Grin

"long time dead...."

Ok that was weird.....great minds.....

SanctiMoanyArse · 21/09/2011 00:59
Grin
AitchTwoOh · 21/09/2011 01:05

actually the reason i like it is that i have no arse and skinny legs, so shorts balance me out and make me look like i am packing a bottom of some description.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 21/09/2011 10:15

Grin sorry, was having a baaad night! No, I'm not really saying you are mutton, and no the reason I hate them isnt because I am saggy. It's just that I live in a town full of chavs and students. Out of the 100s of people who walk past me in a day, I'd say 1% actually pull any of these looks off. The rest just look shocking! And the dress adequately comment, is because most of these people team the looks with a heavy snow fall, canvas slippers and blue fingers! I'm not sure what has happened to fashion today! I suppose that shorts and tights are the lesser of these evils, but where I come from, they just scream student and I've got many scary pictures in my head. Mainly because the tights often cause the shorts to bunch up in the gusset and look wierd!

AitchTwoOh · 21/09/2011 10:22

oh no to bunching. my shorts are like oxford bags... but shorter.
