Any winters here?

I've been following the other season threads and found them really useful. It would be great if any other winters want to share tips, links and advice :)

I think I'm a deep winter. I'm going to get my colours done in November before returning to work, until then I'm saying deep winter as that's what my wardrobe looks like! :o

Really want to know what colours to avoid but worried I will have to scrap all my favourite clothes as a result!

Looking for some cosy stuff in my colours today!

Think I might order this grey cable knit from Next

And maybe this fitted jumper in the Grey

They have some very nice jackets too

Hello fellow winters. I went to HoC last week and had a lovely time. It was worth the 70 minute drive (each way) and the £££s. I really can't see how you can self diagnose which colours are WOW even though it's quite easy for most people to get the general season right. I thought I'd be a jewel winter but in fact I turned out to be a Sultry Winter - so slightly darker than the jewel colours. Without the vast array of subtly different scarves I'd never have been able to spot the difference between some shades of red / navy / green etc. And there really is a difference!!

Are there less Winters around than the other seasons? Or are there less posts because black / grey / navy is much easier to buy than the other colours?

FoofFighters · 15/09/2011 09:46

Yesterday I bought a beautiful cord shirt from Sainsbos. It's midnight blue, thick and quite luxurious. Good for the winter weather, but a bit steep at £18. I also got a black lace scarf, one of those joined ones you just loop round your next ifyswim.

Hi ItsNotUnusual :) Just saw your post. That's interesting, I think I know my best colours but I'm not entirely sure what type of winter I am! I'm going to HoC at the end of November, I can't wait to do the draping. I want a definitive answer about whether I suit black or not, once and for all!

It seems there are less winters here, or maybe we're just not as chatty a bunch :o

Ohhh, can I join? I think I'm a winter, either cool or deep, but that is only on self analysis via the internet!

I certainly look best in black, red, white and grey and worst in autumnul russety colours.

My clouring is quite fair skinned with dark hair and hazel eyes.

Look forward to any makeup recs, as am looking for the perfect red lipstick!

FunnysInTheGarden · 15/09/2011 13:29

colouring!

WakeMeUpWhenSeptemberEnds · 15/09/2011 19:56

Hi there. I was INU. I lobe your name Foofighter

It was very interesting as three of The four of us there arrived convinced that we suit black. The other two were very wrong!!

Funny I am fair skinned, dark hair and hazel eyes a d LOVE red black grey and White!

FoofFighters · 15/09/2011 20:24

Thanks wakeme :o I love to wear black but I've definitely noticed that dark grey and darkest blue are actually better as they complement my eyes so well. My eyes are very dark grey/blue. Apparently it's flattering to match clothes with your eye colour, great advice on eye make up here.

Funnys, I'm sure I bookmarked a page advising on shades of red for winters, which listed a brand and colour name so you know what to buy. I'll try to find it.

Thanks Foof

hello winters! i went to a hoc consultant today and I'm a sultry winter too! I suit the blues/purples/pinks. Relieved that black is also one of my colours as it forms at least 75% of my wardrobe. She told me that Hobbs has lots of good winter colours this winter ( I never shop in Hobbs!).

FoofFighters · 17/09/2011 20:57

Hi BeattieBow, ooh Hobbs eh? I just won a Hobbs black silk wrap shirt on eBay this week, it's lush :)

Did you enjoy the consultation? What's your colouring like?

OP posts:
BeattieBow · 17/09/2011 21:09

v dark brown eyes, olive skin, dark brown hair (ignored for the purposes of the consultation because it's the wrong colour - oops).

Yes, I really enjoyed it - once I got used to looking at myself in a mirror with no make-up on! But would love to get out and get some nice bright colours.

I bought some lipstick while i was there, in a colour I would never wear.

LakeFlyPie · 22/11/2011 10:21

Hoping to resurrect this thread as I'm a deep winter (chinese / cobalt blue, true red and the deep jewel colours being my best colours as well as black / white and greys of course) in desperate need of some new clothes. My post baby stop gap wardrobe stuff is literally disintegrating and I need to invest in a few not quite down to desired size yet items, i.e cheap yet stylish and beautiful Grin

Foof have you been done yet?

SilkStalkings · 22/11/2011 10:52

Ooh I'm a Clear Winter (via Colour Me Beautiful) - can get away with Summer colours but am most showstopping in definite, colour blocks and contrasts, deffo get more compliments that way. Am pale/rosy with pale blue eyes and dyed red hair.
Lately I've been doing daft fashions with a purple/royal blue sarong, over black top, leggings and miniskirt or jeans. Seems to get lots of compliments. I wear it like a long drapey waistcoat, horizontal around my bum with the top corners knotted behind my neck.

SilkStalkings · 28/11/2011 13:30

Tried on a fantastically flattering royal blue top in Debenhams today, stunning colour for winters, drapes beautifully and covers excess tummy.

LakeFlyPie · 28/11/2011 15:38

Beautiful colour Silk, am looking for a "going out" top, will try and pop into Debenhams tomorrow, cheers. Will post any inspiring finds I make Smile

madmomma · 28/11/2011 19:43

When you go to HOC, do you get a chart or swatches to take home so you don't forget everything?

LakeFlyPie · 28/11/2011 20:55

Yes, you get a wallet with little swatches of your colours which is easy to take shopping with you and also a book with details of your 'main' colours and suggestions of how to combine colours e.g. which ones to wear next to your face and those which you can add into your outfits in smaller doses.
e.g. for me my main colours are the bright and deep jewel colours, chinese / cobalt blue and reds with a blue (not orange base) which will work well with black and charcoal grey. I can also wear navy / greys and can get away with stone / taupe for trousers / skirts but should have my main colours next to my face / on top half.
Hope that makes sense Smile

I found the whole experience really helpful as I'm not keen on shopping and can now just scan the rails for the right colours, cuts down shopping hours enormously.
With the help of a thread like this I can literally run in and out of the shops Grin

madmomma · 28/11/2011 21:33

ooh that sounds brilliant. can't wait for mine! thanks.x

FoofFighters · 29/11/2011 19:13

I haven't had mine done yet, hoping dropping massive hints I'll get it as a Christmas gift from dh :)

I can't decide if I am a winter or a cool summer. Looking forward to finding out!

OP posts:
ZZMum · 30/11/2011 14:12

just had mine done and I am a cool winter with leanings towards a cool summer - this is due to my increasing white hairs! Experience was good and I would recommend it.. now to go shopping as most of my wardrobe is autumn and just wrong!
