Any winters here?

I've been following the other season threads and found them really useful. It would be great if any other winters want to share tips, links and advice :)

I think I'm a deep winter. I'm going to get my colours done in November before returning to work, until then I'm saying deep winter as that's what my wardrobe looks like! :o

Really want to know what colours to avoid but worried I will have to scrap all my favourite clothes as a result!

Oooh nice one jbg :) What types of colours do you suit?

I'm a winter too, just haven't worked out the details yet and have no budget at all for a proper consultation. Or indeed to do anything about my wardrobe! But actually I think it's not too bad, just dull.

I have dark brown hair and eyes, and skin with slightly yellowish tones that is very pale in winter but tans fairly well in summer.

The jewel colours definitely suit me - deep reds, most (very) strong/deep pinks, deep teal and blues but tbh I tend to wear more berryish colours as that's what I like. I like wearing black, so am glad I can get away with it, I like greys too. I think white looks ok on me, but I tend not to wear it. Yellows, oranges and a lot of greens make me look ill, as does camel. Brown isn't flattering either.

I keep looking at sleb winters to see who is most similar - I think CZJ or maybe Sandra Bullock ish. Obviously not looks, just colouring! I've seen Nigella wearing mustard yellow-orange before now which puzzles me!

Being dark in your hair colour is a good start for investigating whether you are a Winter. But you then need to decide whether you have warm or cool tones to your skin, as your colours will be very different.

Sit in front of a mirror in a naturally lit room, with a cream/off white thing covering your hair so it doesn't detract form your assessment. No make up on at all. Now find something, anything, to drape around your neck that is a salmon pink. Compare this to draping something fuschia. The one that lights up your face is the one for you.

Salmon pink = warm
Fuschia pink = cool

Hope this helps Smile

nicole333 - that's exactly what I did the other day & fuschia won.....however I also emptied the rest of my vast wardrobe of stuff I never wear & did the same with everything.I now have a much better wardrobe,if a lot smaller,of clothes that flatter me.

Thank god for these threads as before it never really occured to me to really look at what colours did to me & now I am transformed :o although I will be wearing a lot of high necked black/white tops now as they seem to look the best with a splash of colour (the right colour) so I will no doubt be called boring but I will be a more "polished" boring...... woohoo

Thanks nicole333 I just did this and took photos. I'm now comparing them on the laptop and I am cackling to myself at how utterly grim I look in salmon pink! Wow! Thanks for this advice it has really helped :)

That has amazed me, the contours of my face jump out next to the fuschia, and I look so much more awake and healthy and my skin looks cooler but more pink toned, and my eyes are more noticeably blue.

The salmon pink actually seems to change my skin tone to a sandy colour and makes me all yellow around the eyes, and shows my eye bags, and you can't tell what colour my eyes are. And I look proper exhausted!

foofFighters snap, eyes look sparkly & stand out with the fuschia & whole face looks bloody awful with salmon pink.

To think I had been wearing the salmon atroscity (??? on spelling) a number of times this year Blush

wanders off to take pictures of all offending garments, soon to be seen on an ebay screen near you......

clevereverthing it's bloomin marvellous,I should really have worked it out years ago as have known for a long time that any colour put on my hair in salon or home can only have ash tones or else I look monstrous

FoofFighters · 23/08/2011 13:58

Too right cleverthing! I am amazed! :) And that is great link, thanks.

I just took a load more photos with lots of different coloured clothes, and hair covered then uncovered. Wow! Black is probably my best colour! Dark blue, blue, purpley-blue and blue-toned reds are good, and light grey is OK. Camel, orangey reds, light green, yellow and pink are quite grim. I'm enjoying this :o

ooh I have done a clothes exchange party before at my house,we all bought clothes nibbles & Wine, twas a great success

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/08/2011 21:55

Remus She seems to have warm colouring in that photo.
What are you like in olive green? Rust? Lilac? Pale grey?

Olive green - not bad
Rust - bad
Lilac - bad
Pale grey - brilliant
salmon pink - I look dead
Fuschia - looks good but wouldn't choose to wear it v often as far too colourful for me!

Any ideas? :)

catswipe · 23/08/2011 22:04

Clear Spring. Black, greys and Navy are in this palette yet Clear Springs can't do white.

No, fuchsia is really nice on me - it just scares me because I so rarely wear colour! Will look at Clear Spring on that website but so far I'm thinking Clear Winter with a few reservations in the form of the colour white!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/08/2011 22:15

I meant Cool Winter, not clear. Not sure though!

catswipe · 23/08/2011 22:18

You can be slightly warm yet not suit rust, olive etc because your colours may have to be warm and clear. It also depends on your personal interpretation of olive for example. For some people their version of olive has a grey tone and for others it is rich and warm. Black brown is on the list for Clear Spring as well as purples and greens...Google -Gala Darling website- advice for recovering goths- there are some really good palettes there.

catswipe · 23/08/2011 22:19

Fuchsia is on the Clear Spring palette.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/08/2011 22:20

Advice for recovering goths - love it! And it's probably just what I need tbh. :)

flippineck · 23/08/2011 22:34

LOL at the clothes exchange.

Nicole333 - good tip, thanks. Salmon: v bad (way too orangey for me) but fuschia: good. So guess that makes me a cool winter, but looking at some other stuff I think there's perhaps something of a deep winter about me too. Hmmm. I'm trying to remember which colours get most compliments (am stuck in maternity clothes at the moment, colours less of an issue than comfort!) - I think the one item that always gets more compliments than anything else is my red winter coat, it's a kind of deep pillar box red so I guess it's a blue-toned red rather than an orange red, iyswim.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/08/2011 22:38

Well, according to the Recovering Goth I am either a deep Autumn or a Deep Winter - am now even more confused! Other than the white though, the deep winter colours are the ones that seem to suit be better and that I'm naturally more drawn to, so I don't know if that makes any difference.
