Sooo...how do we feel about coral pink trousers on a 50 yr old man?

I am the man in question and yes I have name changed.

Just checking with you style mavens to make sure this is not the biggest style faux pas since the kilt and DMs look.

The thing is, I like these coral pink flat fronted chinos and they are in a sale and DW likes them too.

Am I having a late-onset mid life crisis, am I going to look like I'm trying way too hard or is it a younger man look or are they actually OK for a slimish 50 yr old bloke to wear on holiday or even on the High Street?

I really like men in coral pink, I always think it says they are very secure in their sexuality.

Fimbo · 29/07/2011 14:38

Feeks no are you quite simply mad? They are in the same bucket of hell as bright red or mustard yellow thick cords. NOooooooooooooooooooooo.

cornsilksy · 29/07/2011 14:39

Are they the Boden ones?

thestringcheeseincident · 29/07/2011 14:39

It says Peter Stringfellow to me.

cornsilksy · 29/07/2011 14:41

my ds wore mustard yellow thick cords when he was 2. He drew the line at pink trews though.

shmoz · 29/07/2011 14:42

tethersend · 29/07/2011 14:42

Ban this sick filth.

cornsilksy · 29/07/2011 14:45

I reckon it's these as modelled by Jeffry from Rainbow.

KristinaM · 29/07/2011 14:46

Well i woudl normally say no

But im just back from greece and there was a 50 yo guest at the same hotel who wore coral pink trousres and a black shirt and he looked good. Although he was english he had spanish blood and dark hair and complexion

seasidesister · 29/07/2011 14:48

Grin tethersend

BilboBloggins · 29/07/2011 14:49

They are a bit grotty yauchty, are they not?

TobyLerone · 29/07/2011 14:52

Ageing gay man on the Riviera. Should be worn with a jumper tied around the shoulders. Or possibly a stripy blazer.

Fimbo · 29/07/2011 14:53

Yes definately cruise wear. The new lee shur wear.

TobyLerone · 29/07/2011 14:54

Also, if it's the Boden ones, they're only available in a 44" waist.

Only thing wrong with pink trousers on a man is pink trousers on a man with a 44" waist.

ggirl · 29/07/2011 14:54

screams 'Tim-nice-but-dim' to me

herbaceous · 29/07/2011 14:57

I think it depends on the body contained within the trousers, and what is to be worn with said trouser.

If the body is remotely paunchy, and the trousers accompanied by tucked-in office-type shirt and trainers, then NOOO.

If the body is lithe, tanned, and has a nonchalant hairdo, when worn with a casual jumper, sleeves pushed up, and no socks, it could be a little Phwoar.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 29/07/2011 14:58

Massive Tory.

OR

Vastly gay.

LIZS · 29/07/2011 15:01

hideous and always a really bad cut but a label like YSL so £££.

Selks · 29/07/2011 15:01

Poor Shellmex. I wonder if he'll be buying them now? Grin

TobyLerone · 29/07/2011 15:04

It's what's called 'dodging a bullet', Selks Grin

QuinnFabray · 29/07/2011 15:09

I live in Cowes. You'd fit right in here.

MissBeehiving · 29/07/2011 15:17

My Dad had a crisis like this with RED trousers. I had to save him from himself.

herbaceous · 29/07/2011 15:20

Maybe he's a massive tory. Or vastly gay. In which case he'll be pressing 'buy'.

AbsDuCroissant · 29/07/2011 15:23

I'm with herbaceous - I think it could work if you're suave enough. I feel he could pull it off or he could.

Basically - you have to be hot and Italian.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 29/07/2011 15:23

I consider my self a bit of an expert on pink. My house, car etc are mostly pink and I spent most of my life with pink hair. I even have a pink range cooker.

And I hate coral pink. Its vile and looks vile on just about everybody.

I am not keen on coloured trousers either. I think that is because I was a teenager/early twenties in the 80s and I only have to see a bit of coloured denim and I am catapulted back to the decade that style forgot.

But I give you credit for your fashion bravery. If you really like them, wear them.

I would (if I liked them but I dont so I wont)
