Sooo...how do we feel about coral pink trousers on a 50 yr old man?

I am the man in question and yes I have name changed.

Just checking with you style mavens to make sure this is not the biggest style faux pas since the kilt and DMs look.

The thing is, I like these coral pink flat fronted chinos and they are in a sale and DW likes them too.

Am I having a late-onset mid life crisis, am I going to look like I'm trying way too hard or is it a younger man look or are they actually OK for a slimish 50 yr old bloke to wear on holiday or even on the High Street?

Put it this way, I play "spot the Tory" at work based on a formula involving number of burst bloodvessels in face X eye-catchingness of trouser hue

Zondra · 29/07/2011 16:31

Fimbo- those are hellish!

Ifancyashandy- you are on my wavelength!

ThePathanKhansWoman · 29/07/2011 16:35

Slightly nauseous.

CaptainNancy · 29/07/2011 16:45

what about navy?

ShellMex · 29/07/2011 17:03

I have blue eyes and pale skin so brick red is not for me.

Its at times like these I tend to refer to my two benchmark style icons - Rod Stewart and High Grant. If Rod would and Hugh would not then I avoid. If Hugh would then I ask how Rod would wear it if he had to.

Hence a conservative style in a dashing colour.

Abs - thank you for the nice blog link. I do like the way Italians do style Anglais so I prefer English styling with a lighter Euro twist.

I love a man in pink. I say go and buy them.

ivykaty44 · 29/07/2011 17:25

They look ok on a 71 year old man - so I guess if you don't mind dressing like an OAP your fine Grin

missmiss · 29/07/2011 17:30

I like the style of those trousers. Maybe a darker colour would be better: nit beige, though!

EdithWeston · 29/07/2011 17:33

I would assume the wearer was a Brigadier or Commodore (or higher, those two Services only), or a psychiatrist.

noddyholder · 29/07/2011 17:41

Or Rod Stewart

ThePathanKhansWoman · 29/07/2011 18:06

Good look on the golf course Grin.

ifancyashandy · 29/07/2011 19:21

Those shoes Shock!! My eyes!

ifancyashandy · 29/07/2011 19:23

Ps. Zondra animal print harem pants you say? Likee! From whence they come please?!

ggirl · 29/07/2011 19:28

the ocean blue ones are ok..get those ones

KurriKurri · 29/07/2011 20:12

Nothing wrong with looking like Rod - he's a fine figure of a man.

My DH is 50, dark hair, slim, and I reckon he could just about get away with he brick reds (he wouldn't though because he's frightened of colours). The baby pink ones are pretty anaemic IMO, - and a bit knobby. If you want light colour (and a true Stringfellow look), just go for white.

Actually no, - go for the pink. You like them, your wife likes them, you're going on holiday, what does it matter if you look like a gay Tory, - live a little Grin

I wish my DH would consider branching out a bit, - he has slipped sadly into beigedom.

HerMajestysSecretCervix · 29/07/2011 20:18

My DH once wore pink trousers but, in his defence, they had been dyed in the washing machine and since he is colour blind he didn't notice.

Wearing pink trousers under any other circumstances? NO!

Emo76 · 29/07/2011 20:26

Wear with pride!

ChaoticAngelofGryffindor · 29/07/2011 20:58

No.... just no.

Selks · 29/07/2011 20:58

Shellmex, don't think the baby pink ones will work very well, sorry, but the blue ones in that range are very good.

Zondra · 29/07/2011 21:33

For Iloveashandy -harems

I did get them for cheaper, though! I know they are expensive but, they are beautiful (in my eyes! Haha!). I also, have a fab pair from Dorothy Perkins which were only 15 quid in the sale, but, they don't have them on their site now.

ShellMex - Just get the bloody trousers you like! Anything goes on holidays & your DW approves so, get ordering. Live a little!

Zondra · 29/07/2011 21:36

Sorry! That should be for Ifancyashandy! Sorry!

pinkytheshrinky · 29/07/2011 21:43

It says rich middle aged man to me which is a yes, buy them if you have the panache to carry them off

My rather dashing Dh loves them but is about 10 years to young to get away with it

And yes in the same brackets as sexy yellow or red cords and I love them too

kippersandjam · 29/07/2011 21:48

have looked at the trousers and think that the model looks very nice and did contemplate for an instant my dh in them, but no, sadly the cut wouldn't suit him. depends which high street I guess, or where you go on holiday! i think they would look nice with a nice shirt and decent shoes, and very cool barefoot in the sand after a lovely dinner strolling back down the beach, carrying your shoes, bit of a paddle. yeah, get them. and don;t forget to sling a v neck jumper over your shoulders like the Italians:)

animula · 29/07/2011 21:59

They say: "This man can be trusted to count the money after the school fete accurately and honestly" to me, rather than either Rod Stewart or Hugh Grant. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing in your book.

EdithWeston · 29/07/2011 22:02

animula - I think you're on to something there! His other trousers are probably canary yellow, he'll also own a tweed suit and probably has a Labrador or two.
