I need a new purse. My current one (Mandarina Duck black) is over 10 years old and looking very worn.

I am tempted by a Mulberry one but not sure how they wear.

I was the same, I had a Ralph Lauren one for 10 years which I LOVED, and was gutted when it broke recently. Good wallets are hard to find, have a look at some of these places I tried...

aspinal

not on the high street

Peony & Moore have some

longchamps

I've got 2 Mulberry purses, they both look exactly the same as when I bought them - v happy with them.

At the mo I'm using this one and have had a few strangers say they like it which was nice Grin

I am also delighted with my Mulberry purse. It's a few years old now, but still looks beautiful.

The press stud has just stopped working on the coin part of my Mulberry purse which I've had for about five years.

MaeMobley · 18/06/2011 17:58

Thanks a lot. Will go and look.

£200 for a purse! Shock

tak1ngchances · 18/06/2011 18:14

this is my purse and I LOVE it. I have it in creamy beige, it was a birthday present from my DSis. It holds lots of cards and there is a big coin section. It is frequently admired!

MaeMobley · 18/06/2011 20:15

Wallace, if it lasts 10 years thats £20 per annum .

And we use our purses everyday.
This is how I am trying to justify it to myself!!! I work with a girl who just spent £230 on a Mulberry purse. She keeps getting out and smelling it and stroking her cheek

I have a Coach one
Also got a new Orla Kiely that I've not started to use yet

kando · 18/06/2011 20:21

I've had a Tula and a Radley one (the Radley one bought by DH without any help from me - was chuffed to bits!). My sister has THE most gorgeous Dior purse, in a wine coloured patent leather (?). I drool every time she takes it out of her bag ...

MrsSeanBean · 18/06/2011 21:26

I currently have a Mulberry Mabel purse/wallet - see here which is lasting well and lovely to use - would recommend :)

Wallace · 18/06/2011 21:27

Um...ok

My purse actually cost about $5000 IIRC. That was six years ago and it is still going strong.

They were Zimbabwean dollars btw....

Slinks away from style and beauty...

MaeMobley · 18/06/2011 21:34

Wallace, pls don't go! I am neither stylish nor beautiful but I like to fantasise.

My purse cost $15, bought in New York on my honeymoon 9 years ago. Still going strong. Not much help for the OP but just a bit of a reality check for those who feel it might be essential to spend £200 on a purse!

schroeder · 18/06/2011 21:42

I got mine from monsoon for a tenner, tis lovely Grin

BettyBleu · 18/06/2011 21:44

I can't tell you how pleased I am that this thread has been started as I've been looking for purses too.

There are so many lovely bags about but most purses seem very dull by comparison. Thank you everyone for the links, my budget won't stretch to a Mulberry but I'm quite taken with the Aspinal ones.

Mae Hope you find a lovely replacement.

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/06/2011 21:45

Totally not getting this.

I can safely say, in 48 years, I have never noticed anyone else's purse.

Can't you just buy a £10 one from Debenhams?

My current one is soft brown leather given to me as a mother's day present about 3 or 4 years ago and bought on a local market stall.

madammecholet · 18/06/2011 21:45

maemobley I spent about £100 about 10 years ago on my RL one, so thats £10 a year. I don't need a reality check, I could have equally spent £10 and it fall apart in a month. Just bought another for about £100..

Spend what you can afford on something which will last and you love.

RichTeaAreCrap · 18/06/2011 21:47

I have got this one

www.mulberry.com/#/storefront/c5490/3492/category/

I love it. People have commented on it when I have had it out to pay for things! I've had it over a year and it still looks brand new.

MaeMobley · 18/06/2011 21:47

I wouldn't expect anybody else to notice my purse. I would be buying it for me.

CroissantNeuf · 18/06/2011 21:53

I'm in the "don't get it camp".

Your purse spends 99% of its time in the dark depths of your handbag together with bits of fluff, stray raisins and unidentifiable sticky masses.

The only people who see it (if they can be bothered to even lift their gaze) are shop assistants.

Mine was from Accesorize, was probably about £20 and has lasted 4-5 years so far and still going strong

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 18/06/2011 22:07

I agree with Bibbity - I have never, ever noticed anybody's purse. Mine is a Designers Guild on in lovely pink leather but it cost me 49p in a sale about 6 years ago! I could do probably do with a new one now but can't get excited enough to even look tbh. The Mulberry ones do look nice but are insanely priced imho.

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/06/2011 22:12

Anyway, to answer the op straight up:

I have a lovely soft brown leather purse which I am extremely fond of as it was "bought" for me by my two dc when they were 6 and 3, as a mother's day present.

It came from a local market stall but as its leather and I live in a reasonably poncey part of London, I'd guess it cost dh about £20.

It is still going strong 4 years later.

It has a zip up compartment on the back where I keep my books of stamps and library cards.

It has four compartments inside where I keep notes, then receipts, then a zip up bit where I keep my credit cards, and then the change part.

It is standard oblong purse size, so you can put a £20 not in it without folding it. It has a magnetic clasp on the front.

Am more than satisfied.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 18/06/2011 22:17

I've got a leather one, not a posh brand or anything. Think it was a fiver. It's got several coin sections into which I can organise my coins. £1&£2 in the first one, 50p & 20p in the second one, 10p & 5p in the third one and coppers in the forth one. I am a bit OCD. Blush

It's got a zip in the middle of those sections, for my trolley token and any bit of cash I need to separate for a few days (kids lunch money for example). Then it's got a note section and it's got several card sections. So I can have loyalty cards in one, bank cards in one, top up cards etc in one. It's got a couple of zipped sections. One for photos and one for the kids cards. And a clear plastic bit my drivers licence goes into.

I have a very organised purse.
