How do I persuade my friend out of one dress and into another?

She is a size 18/20, busty and with big arms (she also has that red, bumpy skin people moan about). She doesn't have much of a waist.

I think she looks best with a v-neck or sweetheart neckline, and something fitted under the bust rather than to the waist.

Can anyone help me find something wonderful for her that will make her look and feel her best? Budget is up to £1,000 (lucky her), she is about 5'8", dark blonde hair and enviably dark-blue eyes. Wedding is in October at a country-house hotel.

Equally, if you think I am being a right cow feel free to point it out.

Perhaps she will have a steel bone corset on to carry it off and so look fabulous.

You have to think of ways of putting her off that dress, I don't think that's being bitchy if it's done the right way. Erm, [desperatly trying to think of ways] Have you tried a simple "I just don't think that style is for you" Pick your moment when you have gauged her mood is good of course. Then suggest your ideas above.

Suggesting a vintage style shrug is a thought, not sure where to shop for dresses but hopefully you'll get some suggestions from here.

How about suggesting how great the Sophia is on that site and how that will show off her great curves better? I do agree with you that is the neckline for a willowy type not for a gusty type.

Or the Marilyn halter neck if it is corseted enough?

BluddyMoFo it really isn't about me wanting her to have the dress I want. It's about wanting her to look as fantastic as she can on her big day.

She dresses really well, as a rule, and when I said I thought she should go with the shapes she normally wears because they suit her, she told me that was why she wanted something completely different for her wedding.

I thought that if you clever internet bods could make some suggestions, I could try to get her to at least look at other options.

I would just tell her 'that style isn't all that flattering on you....sorry to be blunt'

I agree that dress belongs on someone with a petite frame, and slender arms.

In other words....I wouldn't touch it. But I'd want to.
