Hi, Have just found this section, think its gonna be my new favourite.

Have been thinking of getting some havaianas but could anyone tell me the difference between these and some of the similar, cheaper ones?

I love my Havaianas but have recently discovered Ipanemas - have to say the Ipanemas have the edge.

Viagrafalls · 16/05/2011 12:51

I feel I should add that they are made from recycled tyres AND they wash in the washing machine at 60 degrees so I have about 6 pairs on the go. Well worth it. you can get them cheaper online too, try Ebay and googling them.

Deaddei · 16/05/2011 12:53

Wish they did size 9's in burly colours ie not black, navy or White.

Deaddei · 16/05/2011 12:54

Girly not burly Blush

Stangirl · 16/05/2011 13:00

Only kind of ffs I can wear - last forever - go for it.

alizee · 16/05/2011 13:26

Deaddei my size 8's are massive!

on-topic, i haven't bought a pair but i won a voucher once and i used it to buy DH's skate shoes so i had a bit left over (about £15) and i got a pair of havaianas. they are brilliant! i have worn them so much and you cannot even see the indent of my foot !they have kept their exact original shape. i really think they're great and definitely worth the money.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 16/05/2011 13:29

What are Ipanemas like and how do they have the edge over Havaianas?

whatkungfuthat · 16/05/2011 13:38

I sort of sideways trip-up in mine, not sure where I am going wrong Confused

porcamiseria · 16/05/2011 13:39

yes, I had a lovely pair with gold on them, loved them. then the fucking foxes ate them, well worth it as if nice can wear all summer long

messylittlemonkey · 16/05/2011 13:40

Yes, worth extra. Much more comfotable than cheaper ones.

LoveInAColdClimate · 16/05/2011 13:50

Controversially, I hate mine. I usually find flip flops really comfy but my Havianas give me awful blisters on the side of my feet - the straps rub me badly which has never happened with another pair. I am, however, utterly devoted to my Fit Flops.

WearegoingonaKwazihunt · 16/05/2011 13:52

I have a pair and I love them - but they are filthy. So I have just stuck them in the washing machine as viagrafalls suggested.

I hope they survive.

Merlion · 16/05/2011 13:58

I live in Singapore and DH and I live in ours (when not at work). They really last and are very comfy - even for driving in which I can't do in others for some reason!

Am interested to hear about putting them in the washing machine as I have a pair that sit on the patio in the back garden that I just use to play with DS in the garden with that are a bit discoloured - let me know how you get on Weare!

heyelp · 16/05/2011 14:00

Everyone concentrating on here about how comfy they are (which they are)! but they also look great as well!! However there are not the styles here as there are in Brazil. When in Brazil a couple of years ago I found some with a sparkling crystal flower on the front between the toes. They were the same price there as Havaianas are in UK. Don't know why they cannot bring those over to UK

ihatethecold · 16/05/2011 14:03

porcamiseria.. that is so funny.. "the fucking foxes ate them" Shock

Stilla · 16/05/2011 14:15

heyelp what about these

kc0rns1lk · 16/05/2011 14:17

I love mine - have had them for about 2 years and still going strong

Stilla · 16/05/2011 14:17

although they are slightly more expensive Wink

papillonrouge · 16/05/2011 14:29

Have to completely disagree! Because they are thicker and so supposedly more comfy, I find them too heavy so they give me blisters where nice cheapo flip flops from Accessorize do not. I have hardly worn mine - total waste of money. I'd spend my cash on Birkenstocks.

QuickLookBusy · 16/05/2011 14:39

Heavy papillon? They weight about an ounce each Grin

WearegoingonaKwazihunt · 16/05/2011 14:43

Still pretty filthy I'm afraid.

LoonyRationalist · 16/05/2011 14:45

Last summer I bought the hype & bought 2 pairs of Havaianas. Now I do wear flip flops constantly in the summer but 1 pair broke (toepost came out) and the other pair wore through. I have gone back to £2 from Tesco this year & although they are harder initially a few weeks in they are comparable.

Stilla · 16/05/2011 14:58

wore through Shock

I walked miles and miles of Greek back roads (lanes for want of a better description) and they survived that intact .
Loony you were obviously abusing yours ! Wink

papillonrouge · 16/05/2011 15:08

I know, it's clear from the rest of this thread that I am odd but I genuinely find them heavy, it feels as though they drag. Maybe cheapo ones are only half an ounce each!

LadyInPink · 16/05/2011 15:08

yy to Papillon I too have suffered the most extreme blisters wearing my Havaianas but i do love them once i have hardened my feet up each summer but it does take time and it's every summer i suffer with the blisters. I also agree that they are heavier than normal cheapo flipflops (1 oz indeed).
