Please help me find a lovely dress to wear to DH's funeral.

Hello ladies, my DH's funeral is on 28th April. I want to wear a lovely, amazing dress to make him feel proud of me on that day. Please can you help?

I am 5'10", about a size 14 (likely to shed a couple more pounds between now and then), good legs but rubbish tummy. I have highlighted hair in a bob and am quite fair. Budget will be hopefully no more than £200, may need to find shoes, but can find extra funds for those if necessary (size 42 too, so not very easy to find nice shoes). Although my legs are quite good I am 40 and don't really want anything above the knee.

I would like something stylish and elegant, not necessarily black, but perhaps something like this Not sure if it would be the thing or not?

TIA Smile

hi Rindercella, first of all may I offer my sincere condolences re your DH's death. You sound like you are holding it together really well. Are you surrounded by friend and family who are supporting you?

I think the dress you have shown here is fantastic. Very elegant and something that you would walk tall and proud in. And i think a fairly plain court shoe or peep toe shoe would set it off nicely.

lilolilmanchester · 16/04/2011 19:22

Hi Rindercella, so sorry for your loss.
I really like the dress you have linked to, it's classy and appropriate x

Lavitabellissima · 16/04/2011 19:22

So sorry for your loss Sad

I was all ready to start a dress search for you but the one you've linked is just gorgeous. I think it's perfect.

blossoming · 16/04/2011 19:28

Hi rindercella, I am so sorry to hear of your husband's death. I have read some of your threads before.
My daughter died and I wore a dress like this one. I don't know what kind of service you're having, but I found the sleeves useful for the cold and for the chapel.
It comes in navy too, which might suit your colouring better.

follyfoot · 16/04/2011 19:29

That dress is beautiful, absolutely perfect. You will look wonderful in it, and he will be proud of you x

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 16/04/2011 19:29

Am so, so sorry to hear about your dh. The dress you've linked to in the OP is gorgeous - perhaps a bit 'evening' though? If you love it, I really would treat yourself to it.

Otherwise, maybe skirt or dress if not too short for you.

Once again, I am so sorry you're having to go through this at this stage in your life.

Northernlurker · 16/04/2011 19:31

I really like that dress too.
I like this as well - navy Vivienne Westwood

Northernlurker · 16/04/2011 19:32

Colonelbrandon - I was just looking at that one too! Wondered about the length like you though.

cybboid · 16/04/2011 19:32

Is your H wearing a deep purple suit in the pic on your profile? That would be a lovely colour to wear

starfishmummy · 16/04/2011 19:32

Its lovely rinders. Perhaps with a warmer jacket in case it is chilly.

Im sorry to hear of your loss. Look after yourself.

Poodlehorse · 16/04/2011 19:33

I am very sorry to hear about your DH. I agree with everyone that the dress you have linked to is beautiful and classy and would be perfect.

MrsMoppet · 16/04/2011 19:38

I am so sorry to hear about your Dh's death, Rindercella. I have been reading some of your other threads and they have really moved me. Yes, that dress you've linked to is beautiful - it would look lovely with peep-toed patent high heels or similar. Monsoon have lots at the moment. They have some great dresses too, if you decide not to go for this one. ( I think you should though, it's gorgeous).

I hope it all goes well on 28th April (you know what I mean when i say "well"). I will be thinking of you and your DCs.

varyingdegreesofdeafness · 16/04/2011 19:41

Rindercella, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Here's one that would, I'm sure, make your dh swell with pride at you

charlieandlola · 16/04/2011 19:42

Rinders, I guess it depends on whether you want to wear a dress that you "love" and will want to wear again, or if you just want something to get you through the day, and then never see it again as it will remind you of the day( bin it, burn it, give it away).

I do agree with Cyb that if your DH is wearing his amazing purple suit, then you wearing a similar colour would be a great tribute to him.
He looked amazing at your wedding. I am so sorry.

chrisonabike · 16/04/2011 19:47

He'll be so utterly proud of you anyway, but this from Coast is lovely

I'm so sorry for the loss of your DH.

Stylelostinlabour · 16/04/2011 19:55

so so sorry to hear of your loss. I agree that purple would be a lovely colour to wear for the day, although the dress you linked to is beautiful as well.

You'll be in my thoughts on 28th

TheHouseofMirth · 16/04/2011 20:03

I'm so sorry for your loss Rindercella.

That's a lovely dress you've chosen. Would these shoes go? They're available in your size and they're in the sale.

I saw this dress in a shop the other day. It is beautiful and a good combination of sober and cheerful (I imagine you will want the day to be a day of celebration as much as mourning).

Flossie69 · 16/04/2011 20:12

Dear Rindercella have been following your threads but not posted before - words have failed me. But have just clicked on your profile and seen the photo of your DH at your wedding - and it took my breath away - your loss is immense, I cannot even begin to imagine.

But, I agree with the others - purple would be the colour. On the link varying posted from Hobbs, I think the Rodez dress would be perfect - as you said in your OP - lovely, amazing, make him feel proud.

ChoccoVersial · 16/04/2011 20:24

The nicest I've seen so far is the one you posted originally, Rindercella. Sober colours, but really stylish I think.

Whatever you choose, I hope the day goes well for you and your family.

Thank you everyone, yes DH was an incredibly stylish man - regularly referred to as Mr Treads! The suit he wore at our wedding was Ozwald Boetang and the whole colour scheme was based on that suit! Purple would be a hood colour, bit not sure if the Hobbs one would do v much for my figure. Wish I was the size 8/10 I used to be in my 20s. Anyone have any idea of where A Damsel in a Dress stock? Am in Oxfordshire.

Am liking the blue Monsoon shoes linked to v much so if I do go for the original dress, u will definitely get those.

MrsDVere, you are one amazing lady. A spray tan is something I have been considering.

It has suddenly become vital to me to look as good as possible on the most special, important of days x

Rindercella · 16/04/2011 20:49

Or on the same website I linked to, there's the Jasmin dress. Would that just accentuate my tummy? I like it and it's our DD2's name. Can't link on iPhone and difficult to c&p link.

Thank you to everyone else for your suggestions.

John Lewis have your dress Rindercella.

Rindercella · 16/04/2011 20:52

Ooh, could pop over to Milton Keynes, thank you. I will call in the morning, see if they have it in stock and ask if they could reserve my size.
