Please help me find a lovely dress to wear to DH's funeral.

Hello ladies, my DH's funeral is on 28th April. I want to wear a lovely, amazing dress to make him feel proud of me on that day. Please can you help?

I am 5'10", about a size 14 (likely to shed a couple more pounds between now and then), good legs but rubbish tummy. I have highlighted hair in a bob and am quite fair. Budget will be hopefully no more than £200, may need to find shoes, but can find extra funds for those if necessary (size 42 too, so not very easy to find nice shoes). Although my legs are quite good I am 40 and don't really want anything above the knee.

I would like something stylish and elegant, not necessarily black, but perhaps something like this Not sure if it would be the thing or not?

TIA Smile

I'm sure you will look amazing!

TheHouseofMirth · 16/04/2011 20:54

here's the Jasmine dress. Beautful but maybe not so tummy friendly? Can you order both and see which you prefer?

MittzyTheMinx · 16/04/2011 20:55

Just had to say I am so sorry for your Loss Rinedercella Sad

Northernlurker · 16/04/2011 20:58

I like the jasmine dress too. Would maybe need some very authoritative pants to wear under it to tell the tummy what to do?

thefirstMrsDeVere · 16/04/2011 20:59

Rinders make sure you keep some money aside to get your nails and hair done (maybe not the spray tan - perhaps that was just me Smile ).

I like all of the dresses linked to and your first choice is perfect. If you are worried about your tummy pop into Sainsbos and buy some of their control pants. They are only about six quid and quite comfy.

I remember being desperate to find a bright pink coat to wear at DD's funeral and my poor friend traipsed for miles with me on a fruitless search. Bless her.

Love to you x

Rinders - I am so sorry for the loss of your gorgeous husband. I love the dress in your OP but agree purple would be very fitting. I like this one and I usually find LK Bennett dresses (especially with ruching across the front) are very flattering on the tummy.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 16/04/2011 21:03

The Jasmin dress is utterly, utterly beautiful. I think it would look amazing.

QuickLookBusy · 16/04/2011 21:03

Rinders I think the one you linked in your OP is perfect.x

Damselinadress stock in John Lewis, Oxford Street, and Fenwicks down in Kent which is a small dept store chain so I am sure they will have a stockist in Oxford. The dress is lovely.

cybboid · 16/04/2011 21:05

That purple one is lovely

TimeForMeIsFree · 16/04/2011 21:08

Ooh I love the Jasmine dress too, it's beautiful!

carriedababi · 16/04/2011 21:09

rinders i am so so sorry for your loss

the dress you linked to is beautiful and elegant and perfect.

wishing you strength

Tillyscoutsmum · 16/04/2011 21:09

this is stunning as well

yellowkiwi · 16/04/2011 21:12

If you can't get it in MK you could order online. I think John Lewis do next day delivery and returning unwanted items is easy and free.

tulpe · 16/04/2011 21:17

Rinders, I followed your story back a few threads.

I just wanted to firstly express how sorry I am for your loss. I can't imagine.

I also wanted to say that you shouldn't be embarrassed or worried that people will think you frivolous for posting on the S&B board. It is important to you. And that really is all that matters. I cannot imagine that anyone would be so harsh as to judge you in this situation.

The photo of Richard at your wedding shows him to be a vital and handsome man, clearly with excellent sartorial sense. The dress you linked to is lovely and think your DH would be very proud of you.

scooby26 · 16/04/2011 21:41

Rinders- the dress you linked to is utterly gorgeous and perfectly appropriate. You will look fabulous and make Richard proud. Fenwicks would take an order over the phone and post it out if you can't find it locally- fenwicks ip here in Newcastle too xx

DarrellRivers · 16/04/2011 22:29

This Tina dress in plum from LK Bennett also available from John Lewis is gorgeous and very very very flattering

I'm sending you some strength for your day

KristinaM · 16/04/2011 22:31

if you look on the john lewis website you can search by dresses and then by colour. you can also chose the styles you want to include / exclude.

i woudl order as many different ones as you like, try then on straight away and return the ones you dont like. i ordered from them last sunday, got the parcel on wednesday and took it back to the post office on Thursday. im hoping to have the money back in my account asap. delivery and returns free over £100

Alternatively you can order loads, get them delivered to the store, go in and try them all on and and return them on the spot.

Either way you avoid making a special trip into town to discover they dont have your size or you don't like it / suit it in RL.

chipmonkey · 16/04/2011 23:25

Rinders, am in tears here for you.Sad

I think the nicest dress is the original one that you linked to.

AntPants1 · 17/04/2011 08:59

rinderella I have seem your posts. I also have a March baby and have popped into the March thred from time to time and have seen your story unfold. I am so very very sorry to hear about your DHs death. Take comfort that you have an invisible group of women on mums net standing behind you. I hope that the funeral goes as well as possible and you have a lovely day to remember your lovely DH and all the good times you had together. Much love.

carciofi · 17/04/2011 09:23

Rindercella, I am so sorry for your loss and can't imagine how tough things must be for you.

The dress you linked to in your OP is stunning. I think your DH would be proud of you whatever you wore.

You have two beautiful DDs too.

I will be thinking of you all on 28th xx

Leverkusen · 17/04/2011 11:58

Rindercella, just saw your husband's photograph on your profile. He was such a handsome and stylish man.

I think the first dress you linked to was lovely. You will look fantastic, and I am sure your DH would be very proud.

I am so, so sorry for your loss.

ThisFeelsWeird · 17/04/2011 12:46

I love the dress you linked to, so elegant and a nice change from black but still very fitting and appropriate. Go for it.

Just had a peek at your pics - if I'm allowed to say it, your DH was a gorgeous man, wasn't he? I will also be thinking of you and wishing you continued strength. I'm sure your lovely DCs will get you through the days ahead. They are a blessing.
