Classic Chanel bag

I have a 'big' birthday approaching and have always wanted a classic quilted Chanel bag with chain / leather handles. DH has offered to get me one and has set aside 2k.

Will this cover it, and can anyone remember what the style is called (I seem to remmeber it's a series of numbers - is it 2.55)?

I posted that the OP should buy it if she likes it. Her choice (which is evidently also yours) hasn't garnered sweeping approval though, and most people (including Otch) have also suggested alternatives.

Heaven forbid that a woman should spend a lot of money on a beautiful item for herself! A designer bag does not devalue a great deal either. With careful ownership it can actually prove to be a reasonable investment . Go and get you Chanel; it will be a timeless accessory and last for years to come.

OP, if you do get one, the large one comes in a sort of embossed leather (like tiny lizardskin) as the large one can't be made in the very soft leather (which scratches to hell on the corners)

Amazed at this thread! There are fakes/duplicates/copies of almost everything, from bags to shoes to eyeshadow but if you can't covet & appreciate CHANEL in the style&beauty topic then where can you?

It's an iconic bag! If that's what you want for your big birthday OP, and your dh can afford it, then get it and I hope you have many many years of pleasure and enjoyment from using it.

Fwiw I love the 2.55 and would jump at the chance to own one.

its timeless and beautiful - i have 6! i love them all. cant afford them anymore but they were more affordable for me 5yrs ago. i love them they are beautiful and i don?t think they are everywhere, I wouldn?t consider chanel ?highstreet?. Get black though, my black one is my most versatile. Do go to a chanel boutique for a proper service

i do agree also on the lambskin comment its too delicate for day time

Have wanted a 2.55 for so long. They are classy and have an understated elegance. I nearly felt like my parade was rained on with some of the posts on this thread! Buy it and enjoy it for life .
