Straighteners - which ones do you use/recommend?

Currently have some Babyliss Straighteners which are ceramic coated (I think!!) - cost about 24 quid about a year ago.

My hair is very thick and about shoulder length and quite wavy (when it's not been straightened!!). My straighteners do the job, but after a while my hair tends to revert back to it's natural wavy state.

Is it worth forking out for much better straighteners, like those ghd ones? Has anyone bought these from e-bay? Are they any good?

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

TIA

mancmum · 25/10/2005 13:42

GDH GHD GHD .. no doubt about it... worth it...

Did you buy yours over the internet?

Know Argos don't sell them - do any high street shops?

Thanks!

I've got ones very similar to these and they work well on my hair, mines is very fine and only has a slight kink in it when I fall asleep with it wet. Don't know how good they'd be on thick curly hair. My friend uses GHD on hers. Has had the same ones for about 5 years now.

ghds every time !!!!!!! they are so worth the money because they last a lot longer than other straighteners around and once they have done the job they have done the job!

JonesTheSteam · 25/10/2005 13:47

Am convinced - but where from?

laughinglil · 25/10/2005 13:48

gscrym · 25/10/2005 13:51

£75 from HQHair.com. Have a look at kelkoo, that lists them with prices.

GHD

Kidstrack2 · 25/10/2005 13:56

As long as they are Solid Ceramic plates and not ceramic coated, I have extremely thick hair that I have razored about once a month and layered to keep my hair in control, I had my GHD's for about 9m before I stupidly left them in a hotel we were at, I couldn't afford them again so I bought a pair at 50pound with ceramic plates and they are great.

I still umming and ahhing about buying some ghd's - well I want some as a Xmas pressie from dh. But which shouls I get - there are wide plate ones and smaller ones. I have shoulder length fine hair which used to be poker straight. Since having children it's gone sort of wavyish and looks like I have had a really bad fright in the mornings. I'd rather buy the bigger ones if I know they will definitely do the job, but would I get away with the smaller ones (I assume they are cheaper)?

wallopyCOD · 25/10/2005 14:13

ive sold mine
i htink straight hari ont he wane

OrribleOliveoil · 25/10/2005 14:15

only if you look like you are in Liverpool on a night out, not if you use sparingly to tone down frizz.

wallopyCOD · 25/10/2005 14:16

they call it pop idol hair

northerner · 25/10/2005 14:19

No, don't say straight hair is not in anymore. I can not venture out of the house without staightened hair. I look completley different, my natural hair is a frizzy mess, I will not ever revert back to that.......

JonesTheSteam · 25/10/2005 14:22

Hair straighteners are the only way I can have long hair - believe me I've been trying since I was 11 - am now a number of years over 30 and I've decided if I don't have long hair now, I never will have!!!!

So - don't care if it's out of fashion!!!

After all bootcut trousers are out of fashion, and skinny jeans are in, but I'm still going to wear bootcut trousers!!

Why? Because they suit me!!! I'm sick of trying to be fashionable - have probably spent years and way too much money on things that were in fashion, but didn't suit me, and some that I've never even worn!!!

So I still want straight hair and still want straighteners!!!

They are God's gift to fizzy heads!

felicity24 · 25/10/2005 14:50

The GHD wide ones, nothing worked till I used them with the half ton of hair on my head, it cut time down to 20 mins from an hour
