I'm a make-up muppet, and I just bought some liquid eyeliner

Help. I don't really wear make-up apart from mascara, some powder and a dab of cream blusher. I have horrific eyesight, which doesn't help. I'd love to wear some really dramatic eye make-up. However, whenever I've used a eyeliner pencil I've ended up with wonky eyes The problem is that as I draw, my eyelids bunch up. I may have baggy eyelids. Anyway, I have just bought a rimmel liquid eyeliner. How do I put it on so that I look fab, rather than running in to my eyelashes and going adrift.

Pull the skin near your eyes sideways with one hand (as if pretending you have Chinese eyes), and then gently put the liquid eyeliner as close to your eyelashes as much as possible and start from the nose end and move towards the other side.
it takes a lot of practise, but well worth it:)

"as if pretending you have Chinese eyes"

fuckinnell.

BunnyLebowski · 01/03/2011 13:51

Shock Sam001

TrillianAstra · 01/03/2011 13:58

I know what Sam001 means - didn't you do that when you were a kid? Could have done with some 'you know when we were very un-PC little children' but it's a useful description.

Draw really lightly and go over very gently with a damp paintbrush it will look flawless.

Invisiblesoul · 01/03/2011 21:14

You tube tutorials. They are fab! I work in cosmetics and most of us learn all the tips from you tube! X

suwoo · 01/03/2011 21:17

I do my liquid eyeliner under my lower lashes. Simples. I use glitter eyeliner though, not plain.

redllamayellowllama · 01/03/2011 21:20

I saw quite a good tip in one of the style supplements this weekend - put some very small, faint dots as near as you can to your eyelashes. Then join the dots up and go over with a damp brush (they recommended one I have - the Laura Mercier flatliner brush). Anyway, I had a go and it works quite well.

Gillybobs · 01/03/2011 22:21

I use the Rimmel liquid eyeliner and I rest my elbows on something which keeps my arms steady as i draw the line. Works a treat.

PorcelinaOfTheVastOceans · 01/03/2011 22:25

sam001!! Confused

i used the rimmel one too. i love love love it, but it does take A LOT of practice to be able to just whip it on...

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/03/2011 22:28

DON'T pull your eyelids taught - all that will happen is when you let the eyelid go the line you have drawn will look like you were pissed when you drew it on. Not a good look.

You just need to practice a lot. Be bold and apply it in a quick swoosh fashion. You will end up looking like Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane for a bit, but you will master it eventually.

barbieisaskinnybitch · 02/03/2011 09:33

FFS leave sam001 alone - christ can we not say anything anymore without people freaking out & jumping on the PC bandwagon.

In no way is what she said derogatory. It's an accurate description.

Sheesh.

scurryfunge · 02/03/2011 09:34

I'm sure she can justify what she meant herself without a sock puppet speaking for her. It was a stupid thing to say, that is all.

Heroine · 02/03/2011 09:36

Why do you all think 'chinese eyes' is a racist insult? What have you got against them?

OnlyWantsOne · 02/03/2011 09:36

^ AGREE

scurryfunge · 02/03/2011 09:40

So you think anyone who distorts their face by pulling the skin by the eyes sideways can properly reflect what is is to be Chinese?

She said it without thinking -nothing wrong in challenging that.

OnlyWantsOne · 02/03/2011 09:45

its got nout to do with distorting her face, just a reference to shape

stereotyping yes

rascist no

get. a. grip.

scurryfunge · 02/03/2011 09:46

racial stereotyping.
Fuck off, telling me to get a grip.

OnlyWantsOne · 02/03/2011 09:48

ooooooooooooooooo ok then

scurryfunge · 02/03/2011 09:49

Thanks, I just get a bit annoyed with casual racism.

Heroine · 02/03/2011 10:08

What is wrong with the East Asian eyelid type? Why do you think that any deviation from the western norm is a disability that should only be mentioned 'sensitively' if at all... oh the arrogance [fume]

scurryfunge · 02/03/2011 10:14

It is the suggestion that it is a deviation from the western "norm" which is the offensive bit, Heroine. I am not suggesting it is a disability, quite the opposite.
Mimicking racial characteristics is not on.
