I'm a make-up muppet, and I just bought some liquid eyeliner

Help. I don't really wear make-up apart from mascara, some powder and a dab of cream blusher. I have horrific eyesight, which doesn't help. I'd love to wear some really dramatic eye make-up. However, whenever I've used a eyeliner pencil I've ended up with wonky eyes The problem is that as I draw, my eyelids bunch up. I may have baggy eyelids. Anyway, I have just bought a rimmel liquid eyeliner. How do I put it on so that I look fab, rather than running in to my eyelashes and going adrift.

Try putting it on with your eyes open. Either looking straight ahead or down into the mirror. Your lids are more taut when your eyes are open and you also get a better idea of what your liner will look like rather than opening your eyes and finding the line is all wiggly due to dragging skin.

Sometimes I do my ticks first and then do the rest of the lash line so that I have control over where my ticks end up! Also, release the pressure on the liner as you get towards the end of the tick - that will help avoid the blunt ended ticks.

Chuck crappy liquid eyeliner in the bin where it belongs and invest in Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel eyeliner and the brush that goes with it , it is uncockuppable

Chickens, I have been using liquid eyeliner since I was 15 which is shit! 25 years ago. My top tip to you is to buy one with a brush and not one of those hard applicator thingummies. It lasts longer and whilst it takes practice to apply looks much better, especially if you have a bit of give in your eyelids. Rimmel do do one with a brush which costs about £5 or £6 and lasts ok.

Mine is Rimmel! Glam eyes or something. Maybe I'll pluck up the courage to try it later. Now, remember I'm a novice. I'm presuming I don't draw all around my eyes a la Cleopatra?

That's certainly not something I would recommend for a novice, Chickens. Just do your top lid. You may need to do it several times before you are prepared to step outside, of course! Practice does indeed make perfect - I can do Cleopatra but I tend to stick to the top eyelid on a daily basis. Special occasions call for a sweep outwards and upwards, but only on the top. Use smokier pencils/shadow (or the suggestion of dots blended by wet brush) for lower lids.

I think the consensus seems to be practice makes perfect.

Drop by a Bobbi Brown counter and get them to show you how to apply their one. Then say you need to see how long it lasts before committing to buy!

lots of department stores have them, and airports! Sorry, not sure where you live, I'm in London so admittedly spoilt!
