Have been looking for a coat for dd to wear to church but can't find anything on the high street.

I saw thisthis on ebay and really liked it until I saw it was from BHS. Now I am swinging between thinking it is lovely and perfect for church to thinking it is rather hideous.

I have also seen them on ebay in red, but I prefer the green.

If you think it is nice please say so but don't bid on it - I am trying to dress a girl with expensive tastes on a paupers budget! She is on so many ways her mother's daughter

does she need a church coat? Mine wear their normal ones

Whizzz · 08/10/2005 13:19

Coat is OK not sure on the hat though - reminds me a bit of Victorian Xmas cards ! Would look very respectable for church IMO

SecondhandRose · 08/10/2005 13:19

I think it's really cute especially for wearing over Christmas

Lmccrean · 08/10/2005 13:19

I think its adorable and if you dont like it, resell it on ebay... although a fiver for shipping seems a bit much...you close enough to pick it up if seller would agree?

projectmanagerCOd · 08/10/2005 13:20

Awful, awful, awful.

teeavee · 08/10/2005 13:21

at least it's not bloody pink

TinyGang · 08/10/2005 13:21

I think it's nice for a special occasion, so yes, lovely for a wedding but not for everyday.

I don't get why which shop it came from makes a difference to whether you like it or not though.

LadyDragonOfSoup · 08/10/2005 13:22

I think it's ridiculous. Sorry!

twinsetandpearls · 08/10/2005 13:24

I just have a thing about BHS, and as I was swinging from hating the coat to liking the coat that was the final nail.

it s ok, but i would prefer to buy brand new. this coat will cost you 6 pounds. you can get coats from 6.50 from la redoubte. also, if you buy a year ahead, you can usually get coats for less than 20 from places like gap, boden etc.

Bozza · 08/10/2005 13:26

I like it but probably wouldn't buy it because I know that my DH would complain.

twinsetandpearls · 08/10/2005 13:26

From being a baby she has always dressed differently on a Sunday , this has helped her understand that Sunday is a special day.

She always wears a dress to church and a dress coat to go over it, last year she had a nice one from Zara.

I like her to look different, as teavee said a least it is not pink!

Didn't look at the posting charges, hadnt got past the is that nice or hideous stage!

twinsetandpearls · 08/10/2005 13:28

My dp constantly complains about the way I dress dd, e is very much a conformist who dresses to blend in. We most definetly do not dress to blend!

twinsetandpearls · 08/10/2005 13:29

Couldn't decipher all of that Cod but I think I get the general message.

OP posts:
Bozza · 08/10/2005 13:29

I think DH would call it old fashioned, whereas I would argue that it is classic. And I so agree about it not being pink.

Rainbow · 08/10/2005 13:29

I think it's ok but she needs to be a girly girl to carry it off.

spagblog · 08/10/2005 13:36

child would need red ringlets to wear this IMO

twinsetandpearls · 08/10/2005 13:36

She is very much a girly girl.

OP posts:
teeavee · 08/10/2005 13:38

if she likes it, then why not

twinsetandpearls · 08/10/2005 13:40

lol at the ringlets!

WE went out for a meal with some friends last year and dd asked if she could have her hair in ringlets. Not wanting to crush her sense of individuality I agreed for a special occasion. My dd has quite fine hair which then was very short as she hacked it off.

I tried curling it and she ended up with a blonde fuzzy affro which she teamed with a disney dress, some bonkers jewellery we got from a charity shop and some clippity dressing up shoes.

She looked ridiculous but in her eyes beautiful which is all that matters. My dp muttered under his breath all the way to the restauarant something about why can't we be normal!

AS we walked in the place seemed to go silent to look at the dd as she walked in she smiled and siad "Mummy are they all looking at me beacuse I am a princess"

I don't like this one but here it is in red and it is up the road. Maybe its northern eccentricity!
