Is this nice or hideous ?

Have been looking for a coat for dd to wear to church but can't find anything on the high street.

I saw thisthis on ebay and really liked it until I saw it was from BHS. Now I am swinging between thinking it is lovely and perfect for church to thinking it is rather hideous.

I have also seen them on ebay in red, but I prefer the green.

teeavee that has always been my attitude she can wear anything she likes if she likes it as long as it is not Barbie or ridiculous high heeled shoes.

it's nice that she has tha confidence not to want to melt into the background - and it's fun to dress them up!

projectmanagerCOd · 08/10/2005 13:58

no i haet allthat littel girl vivtorian look stuff
s orry red or green

teeavee · 08/10/2005 14:03

not my cup of tea either - but I'm not the one who'll be wearing it!

twinsetandpearls · 08/10/2005 14:24

I would rather have a little girl victorian look than sparkly tights, wedge heels, mesh tops and short skirts. because of course there is no middle ground - well not in Blackpool anyway.

Of the 2, I prefer the olde worlde look too

Angeliz · 08/10/2005 15:18

I don't really like the coat but had to ask, why did it being from B.H.S out you off?

freakyzebra · 08/10/2005 16:04

I must have no taste because I think it's dead cute; DD would even choose to wear it (no easy feat).

Lonelymum · 08/10/2005 16:14

If you like it, why should it put you off that it is BHS? I know they are not haute couture, but you said yourself you are dressing her on a budget. It looks fine to me.

Incidentally, my dd was given a second hand coat in black velet like material with a gold lining - very much a party coat - but I have no other coat for her this year, so I have decided she will wear it to school unless I can find another coat very cheaply for her. This coat is not a million miles away from the one my dd has. It is not my taste, but I am not wearing it and did not pay for it.

Someone gave my ds a black velvet jacket with purple satin lining as a present too - he looks like a cross between a member of the Beatles and a waiter in an indian restaurant in it! It's dry clean only, from Monsoon kids - haven't actually made him wear it yet - I'm thinking of knitting a scarf to tone it down a bit!

projectmanagerCOd · 08/10/2005 16:30

hmm what sort of coat would i gte let me think..

LadyTophamHatt · 08/10/2005 16:45

Cod, if we had girls I think we'd be dressing them the same, I'd choose those too.

projectmanagerCOd · 08/10/2005 16:45

also after your htreads yesterday t adn p is this a wise idea?

teeavee · 08/10/2005 16:56

they're a bit too pinky-winky for my liking

Blossomhowl · 08/10/2005 16:58

Reminds me of Oliver Twist tbh. I wouldn't put my 6 yr old in it no. I think the colour doesn't help. May be better in black.

ScummyMummy · 08/10/2005 17:17

Gah! Was really hoping I'd love it so I could agree with you after the last thread but I'm definitely in the think it's hideous camp, I'm afraid. Still, if you like it and she likes it I guess you should go for it.

iota · 08/10/2005 17:19

this is one of those times that I'm glad I have 2 x boys

teeavee · 08/10/2005 17:23

lol at 'camp' and 'oliver twist' !!!

Gobbledispook · 08/10/2005 17:54

Nope, I don't like the ebay one - the next and Pumpkin patch are nicer imo.

But it's up to you!

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 08/10/2005 18:06

Don't like it much either I'm afraid.
