I need another handbag. I really do. A cross body/satchelly type. Like last year's Boden one. Any reccomendations?

Or what is the ideal bag in your opinion? Was going to get Cath Kidston messenger bag, but when I went to get it, it was enormous. It seems to be designed for very tall women.

I prefer cross body as leaves hands free and feel safer, would consider shoulder bag, if long straps, don't like bag tucked under my armpit.

in brown/tan/taupe?

What's your budget Lulu?

Lulumaam · 04/01/2011 20:34

erm, up to £150. Could be a bit more.

There are some in the Boden spring preview in oilcloth for £39 (so when the £10 code kicks in, probably £29, as long as you like large flowers).

IIRc there was also a rather nice leather satchel available in the Boden Spring range.

Otherwise I would look on the TKMaxx site at cross body and satchel bags and see if you can find a bargain that hits the button.

If you want something more expensive, Mulberry have a lovely new satchelly it-bag...that's probably the ideal bag!

www.bagsnob.com/2010/09/the_mulberry_tillie_bag.html I would like this... but out of budget!!

So you wont be interested in this one then? Grin

Lulumaam · 04/01/2011 20:41

thanks for trying Grin

I will have a look at boden, thanks.. but got bag from there last year, and it's not really lasting the test of time, quality wise.

Hm, seriously tho, I'd try the Toast website, or Ally Cappellino.
Toast has this though it might look TOO much like a schoolbag!

MadameOvary · 04/01/2011 20:50

Or this?

madammecholet · 04/01/2011 21:01

There was a thread on here not so long ago about the Peony & Moore Evelina...across body bag, comes in 2 sizes...will go and hunt for thread..

some colours in sale too...

evelina

madammecholet · 04/01/2011 21:03

here

I like across body bags too - I have a Radley one, it was expensive but soooooooooooo worth it and the leather just gets better with age. I don't really like Radley bags usually but the across body bag is great - can't work out how to do a link, sorry.

Lulumaam · 05/01/2011 09:47

thank you, the peony & Moore ones are really lovely

had a look at radley. wasn't keen on any of the colours, thank you though

I know what you mean - not a great selection of colours. I just wanted plain brown so it was fine for me. Hope you find something suitable.

ImeldaSnowboots · 05/01/2011 10:16

fossil are good for cross body leather bags. Think john lewis stock some of them.

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 05/01/2011 10:33

I need a crossover body bag that has some substance to it

you know like the sides stand up on their own
I'm sick of having a sack that just crumples, I may as well just stick it all in a carrier bag with all the having to rummage in the bottom of a sack

Gillybobs · 05/01/2011 10:33

got to shopstyle.co.uk and put "satchel" in the search bar, it comes up with 54 pages of gorgeous bags (every make). I love shopstyle website, no matter what youre looking for it always saves loads of time.

Gillybobs · 05/01/2011 10:34

Trinity, warehouse have a nice firm framed satchel for £38, (also saw this on shopstyle)

FellatioNelson · 05/01/2011 10:41

My ideal bag is:

soft leather, not black,

lots of pockets and inner compartments otherwise I can never find anything.

A decent clasp or zip for security

Not too big (current one)

Not too small (previous one)

not too heavy in itself (current one)

Must have dual straps/handles, or one strap that is long enough to go over my shoulder, but short enough that if I carry it in the crook of my elbow or in my hand it doesn't hang too low.

Oh and it must not cost more than £200, unless it is really, really fabulous, and even then, not more than £300 and three blow-jobs.

I can tell you now - it's a flipping impossible ask.

aquavit · 05/01/2011 10:44

I have a lovely satchel from scaramanga which somebody on here recommended once

lots of different options (size, style) and it is a truly lovely bag which so far has withstood a lot of bashing around

FellatioNelson · 05/01/2011 10:55

Ooh I like that website - thanks. It has a touch of Peddlars about it but without the insufferable smuggery.

I've just decided my problem is I'm lokking in the wrong price range. I need to either go for a functional, adequate non-exciting bag under £100, or pay for a big name design-led one over £400. There is very little in between.

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 05/01/2011 11:04

would this hold its shape?

Gillybobs · 05/01/2011 11:11

Dont think so, its washed cotton rather than their oilcloth fabric which holds shape better. sorry

noddyholder · 05/01/2011 11:27

nice but is it big enough?

noddyholder · 05/01/2011 11:29

love this in the pewter
