What eye make up do you wear every day?

I just wear mascara but went out last night and my lovely friend had all smoky dark eye shadow that looked great (I probably stared a bit too much Blush).

I'd love to know how to do that and what shades to get, friend is quite fair, same skin tone as me and it looked fab on her.

Do you wear the full works every day?

Nope - I wear either a Lancome grey eyeliner plus a Lancome mascara or Mac Shale eyeshadow plus the same mascara. Often I can't be bothered with the mascara and just put on the eyeliner - it looks crap then though!

AmandaCooper · 15/12/2010 19:48

No I wear nothing at all on my eyes unless I'm going out. I reckon it damages the skin round your eyes and anyway I can never get the residue off.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 15/12/2010 19:51

eyeliner, mascara and Mac brown eyeshadow

for evenings out I just ramp it up, add sparkly stuff and that's it

said · 15/12/2010 19:57

Eye shadow, eye liner and mascara every day and just more and more dramatic in the evenings. Oh, and I've now discovered Urban Decay eye primer thing (from mn) which has transformed eye shadow staying power

MayorNaze · 15/12/2010 20:01

i used to do fab eyeshadow :(

but now i am old :( and makeup that looked great 10 years ago now makes me look like a man in drag :(

and my glasses make my eyes look all piggy and little anyway :(

thenightsky · 15/12/2010 20:02

No7 truffle eyeshadow, brown eyeliner and brown mascara - waterproof if its a rainy day.

for night time I add charcoal No7 to the crease of my lid and the outer corners and blend it in loads and take it slightly under my lower lashes.

ClaireDeLoon · 15/12/2010 20:03

hmm the age thing matters? Friend is a year older than me but to be fair to her looks ten years younger than I do.

I'm going to go to SpaceNK on Monday when on hols and ask them for an eyeshadow lesson I think.

I dye my eyelashes and eyebrows every few weeks.

I am very low maintenance.

domesticslattern · 15/12/2010 20:05

Bobbi Brown palettes are expensive but good. This one would suit for nights out.

MayorNaze · 15/12/2010 20:06

well i am not really old

but for some reasn smoky eyes that looked fab as a student no long cut it. perhaps i am out of practice...:(

any age can pull off anything as long as it is done with confidence and aplomb IMO :)

Lulumaam · 15/12/2010 20:06

I wear winged black liquid eyeliner and lashings of black mascara everyday. I keep the rest of my face subtle though

for nights out, i do the same, plus light shadow on lid and brow bone and a dark colour in teh crease and black eyeliner smudged under bottom lids

am fair skinned with green eyes and red hair. and tend to stick to greys/silvers/ deep dark navy blue/aubergine

MayorNaze · 15/12/2010 20:07

what colour eyeshadow/liner/mascara do you all use btw?

sorry for hijack OP Wink

BelligerentYhoULE · 15/12/2010 20:07

Yes - the Urban Decay primer thing is excellent.

In the evenings, I tend to go for Urban Decay eyeshadow in either Sin, Mildew or Oil Slick, or another one that I've forgotten the name of but is a gorgeous bronzey brown.

MayorNaze · 15/12/2010 20:07

oh lulu you fox Wink

TheBigZing · 15/12/2010 20:08

Every day dark brown eye liner and dark brown or black mascara.

Most days also a smoky grey eyeshadow just on the lids.

I wear glasses and feel I need quite a bit of eye make up to stop them disappearing behind the lenses.

lucyspangle · 15/12/2010 20:09

Brown eyeliner on upper lid close to lashes
Neutral base shadow
brown or green shadow daytime
any colour night time (also dye my eyelashes)
never line under eye think it dates me too mmuch

ClaireDeLoon · 15/12/2010 20:10

But how do you all know how to apply the smokey eyeshadow thing? How?

OP posts:
MayorNaze · 15/12/2010 20:10

eyeliner and mascara i can work with the specs

but any hint of anything other than the most boringnatural eyeshadow looks like i am dd1's girls world Hmm

MayorNaze · 15/12/2010 20:12

i seriously learnt how to do it the first time round from just seventeen magazine (where did that go, eh? eh???!)

now? i dunno. youtube maybe? i learnt to hem trousers from there, figures that you can learn pretty much anything there methinks Hmm

FakePlasticTrees · 15/12/2010 20:13

For every day, a biscuity cream eyeshadow over my lids, black eyeliner and black mascara.

For evenings, some colour depending on what I'm wearing/how dressed up I'm going.

If you are after inspiration, why not pop into somewhere like John Lewis and ask the woman on one of the counters to give you some tips on how to wear eyeshadow/what shades suit you etc. If you don't want to buy their makeup after the lesson, you could just tell a white lie that your DP will be buying them for your christmas pressie and ask them to write down the shades etc.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 15/12/2010 20:13

claire...there is a fab girl on YouTube who does step-by-step makeup applications

I have forgotten what she is called, but I bet someone could link

anyone ?

Lulumaam · 15/12/2010 20:13

oh yeah, i am hot, innit ? Wink]

claire, youtube is your friend, millions of instructional vids and make up tutorials

buy cheap make up and practise

i have some amazing make up books ( i was briefly a make up artiste in a previous life) by Kevin Aucoin. see if you can get them out of the library, they contain really good step by step tutorials

ClaireDeLoon · 15/12/2010 20:14

BooBooGlass · 15/12/2010 20:16

Search for panacea81, or pixiwoo on youtube, I always follow an eyemakeup tutorial from them when I'm going out, and it never fails

ClaireDeLoon · 15/12/2010 20:17

Thanks all - off to youtube
