Do I give in and buy Boden?

I'm not really into catalogue clothes, but I don't have time to shop. Are Boden clothes actually nice? Do they wear well? What are their sizes like?

(I'm tempted by some trousers, and there's a special 15% off thing for Ocado customers ... I'll put the code up if anyone's interested.)

And why does everyone use "Does anyone have the number for Boden?" as a way to stop an argument?

scummy, that silence says it all...

harpsichordcarrier · 22/09/2005 10:19

ooooops... sorry Enid I'm sure you were very good at it...
I was just looking at the catalogue last night and it was making me slightly nauseous:
B is for : boys! burp! bottom!
don't make me eat : anything gooey!
these are grown women fgs...
maybe I am just a cynical hardened bitch.
oh yes wait a minute I am.

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 10:19

It does, doesn't it, bundle?

I didn't think my mumsnet claim to fame credentials could get any better than knowing the woman who named "Twister' (tigermoth)! Now I can tell everyone I know the mouth of Johnnie Eejitsmarm Boden. I am a v happy woman this day.

I tell everyone I know the person who named Twisters as well!

3PRINCESSES · 22/09/2005 10:25

The game or the green and yellow ice lollies?

Bozza · 22/09/2005 10:25

Do you mean twister, as in the game?

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 10:25

My kids were SO impressed with that. They asked me what icecream I'd named and looked crestfallen when I rervealed that I had named nary an ice cream in my whole life ever...

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 10:26

Green and Yellow ice lollies.

spidermama · 22/09/2005 10:27

The Boden clothes my mum has bought are beautiful and go on and on and on. I pass them down. Some are on their fourth child and still the colours are bright and the seams are straight. I love them.

3PRINCESSES · 22/09/2005 10:29

Do you think she called them Twister because they send your children round the...

(I like Boden too. But feel Sainsbury's range this season pays a certain homage to Johnny. At a third of the price.)

bundle · 22/09/2005 10:32

and hennes

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 10:34

I think Johnny pays homage to Hennes rather than vice versa actually. Esp. with the boys clothes.

bundle · 22/09/2005 10:34

ooooh controversial scummy. I think the Boden "look" has certainly been picked up elsewhere

expatinscotland · 22/09/2005 10:35

I hear the clothes wear very well, NQC. Go for it!

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 10:37

Hennes has been doing great kids clothes for years. Way before Eejitsmarm was on the scene!

bundle · 22/09/2005 10:40

scum, the girls clothes were particularly fab this year, got dd1 a dress, hoodie, 2 pairs trousers and a tshirt for £24. you could barely get the dress for that from johnnie..

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 10:42

Sopunds lovely bundle. I bet she'll look gorgeous. I used to love going to Hennes with my mum when I was little.

lucykate · 22/09/2005 10:45

like hennes for kids clothes, they do some really good bibs, plastic backed but are quite small with velcro, perfect for ds who's dribbling all the time.

personally i find the fact that a next directory costs £3 more annoying than all the captions in the boden catalogue

bundle · 22/09/2005 10:46

oh scummy, I never knew Hennes existed when I was little (but then, you are a lot younger than me )..M&S was glam when I was a kid..

Marina · 22/09/2005 10:48

OMG! Ds' favourite ice-cream. My respect and adoration for Tigermoth has reached a new plane!
I never knew that.

I'd like to see PregnantandRantingEnid flex her copywriting muscles on the latest catalogue...

"Sophie, 23: preferred thread "Am I pregnant?" Sophie is wearing a boxy little top that can't be tumble-dried and cuts anyone over 5'2" right in half. WTF doesn't this patronising git make clothes for properly proportioned people!"

I like Boden's clothes actually ; but not as much as Twisters, which is why I am too porky to fit in them.

Janh · 22/09/2005 10:50

When DD1 was tiny (1983-4) she had a few gorgeous things from Hennes - cotton tights!!!! everywhere else was nylon! - but the nearest shop to us was Nottingham I think

motherinferior · 22/09/2005 10:52

Am personally contemplating buying a Boden cardie if I can wear it in sufficiently nork-exposing manner; but the Inferiorettes get Sainsbury's and Hennes

bundle · 22/09/2005 10:54

the catalogues are exceptionally good for cutting out and sticking games (different heads, bodies and legs stuff, all good fun)

puddle · 22/09/2005 10:55

I have a green cardi from Boden which I've had for three years and still looks like new. Agree though on the short and wide comments....
