Do I give in and buy Boden?

I'm not really into catalogue clothes, but I don't have time to shop. Are Boden clothes actually nice? Do they wear well? What are their sizes like?

(I'm tempted by some trousers, and there's a special 15% off thing for Ocado customers ... I'll put the code up if anyone's interested.)

And why does everyone use "Does anyone have the number for Boden?" as a way to stop an argument?

I know. Terrible stuff. Maybe Enid can do a rewrite specially for me?

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese Enid!

NotQuiteCockney · 22/09/2005 17:06

Wow, this was a busy thread. I probably will give in and try a pair of trousers or something (moleskin bootleg maybe?), and see how it goes. I don't think I'd buy anything too "distinctive" from there, even though the applique stuff is cute, because a) everyone else wears it and b) I don't do cute.

(Marina, how on earth could you be too big for boden? Not saying Boden sizes go that big, just that you don't seem big at all.)

Oh, and the code is LNAD, it's 15% off, free postage and returns, and gift if you buy more than £150 worth.

just seen this thead - enid, I knew you were linked to urchin, but not Johnnie B and the rest. Did Johnnie insist on personally approving every little bit of text? I hated it when clients did that!

Scummy and tinker, you have long memories!

WideWebWitch · 25/09/2005 14:59

I've just spent a couple of hundred quid on Boden tops and I must say I really like them.
Maybe I should have changed ny name for this but can't be arsed

tigermoth · 25/09/2005 15:02

well, if you ever get fed up with them, put them on ebay - boden stuff seems to fetch really high prices, especially cardigans.

teeavee · 25/09/2005 15:53

I like Boden (not the cardis though, or the shoes), but my teacher firend can't stand the brand because she says all her boring middle-aged-before-their-time colleagues rave about it so much!
Luckily, I'm in France, no-one's heard of Boden here!
Read an interview with johnny recently though, and he sounds like an upper-class knob of the 1st order - sexist too.

Would NEVER buy full-price, much too expensive, in the sales only.
Got a brill summer dress for £35 last summer, washes and wears very well, fits like a glove.

teeavee · 25/09/2005 15:56

motherinferior, I have just looked at your link, and that particular cardi passes the mumsy test. You are allowed to wear it - I take back my previous cardi comment. It's nice - I like.

Cam · 25/09/2005 16:09

I only know interesting trendy people who wear Boden

teeavee · 25/09/2005 16:11

my friend would beg to disagree, cam!

Enid · 25/09/2005 16:12

I live in a particularly middle-class part of Dorset and it is ubiquitous here. I have one friend who buys all of her 3 girls clothes from Boden (even socks and pants)

teeavee · 25/09/2005 16:17

while we're on the subject, aren't those fancy flowery wellies naff?

Cam · 25/09/2005 16:25

teevee maybe she's mistaking us middle-aged people who wear Boden for being younger than we really are because we look so trendy in our Boden

teeavee · 25/09/2005 16:28

no, I assure you cam, we're talking mid-twenties to mid-thirties here....they really are boring (I've met a couple of them, enough to put you off cardis for life)

I like motherinferior's cardi though!

WideWebWitch · 25/09/2005 16:29

I bought this and I quote "Simply by idle observation of women?s attire as I go about my business, I am bound to conclude that this is a top which few women are foolish enough to exclude from their wardrobe. This year, as ever, in four gorgeous new colours and with a distinctive lace trim at the neck."

teeavee · 25/09/2005 16:41

patronising git! (johnny, I mean)

piffle · 25/09/2005 16:55

Boden we just noticed are an airmiles company too, but that would mean shopping via airmiles links and not mumsnets

bunjies · 26/09/2005 10:39

Can't afford to shop in Boden myself but here's a promotion code for all of you who can.

LNEV will get you 10% off plus free postage and returns and a free cardigan (code PR062) if you spend £120 or more.

Go shop!

Cam · 27/09/2005 14:12

Are you convinced NQC

vickiyumyum · 27/09/2005 14:20

i love boden, becasue nobody around here wears it! also it is good quality, it washes well, most of it can go in the tumble dryer, its different to most clothes on the high street and you can sell it on ebay forr almost as much as you paid when you have finished with it (just remember to hold onto it until the right season. eg sell winter stuff in winter)

sizes are good too. can buy my size and know that it will fit.

vickiyumyum · 27/09/2005 14:21

jonathan ross and his family wear boden (actually not sure if that is a good or bad thing!LOL!)

I like wearing Boden's stuff, but feel that I am being labelled as something I'm not! Does anyone else feel the same?"

handlemecarefully · 11/10/2005 13:58

I've just ordered (and received) some stuff from Boden - it does seem good quality (e.g. ds' skate pants are a nice material with thick lining, look well sewn etc)

By contrast a pair of trousers I bought for myself from New Look a fortnight ago already need the hem taking up as they weren't stitched properly.

Generally, you get what you pay for.
