Do I give in and buy Boden?

I'm not really into catalogue clothes, but I don't have time to shop. Are Boden clothes actually nice? Do they wear well? What are their sizes like?

(I'm tempted by some trousers, and there's a special 15% off thing for Ocado customers ... I'll put the code up if anyone's interested.)

And why does everyone use "Does anyone have the number for Boden?" as a way to stop an argument?

Aha, so there is something funny about the ladies' cut (assumed there was something funny about me).
Just picked up 3 mini boden t-shirts for £1 each in oxfam [uncontrollable smugness].

motherinferior · 22/09/2005 11:06

I am short and wide

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 11:09

You are not.

bundle · 22/09/2005 11:11

I am. sort of oompah loompah-ish

puddle · 22/09/2005 11:11

The tops I have bought (and then sent back) cut me in half right at the worse bit of post-baby flab.

motherinferior · 22/09/2005 11:12

Well, I'm five feet tall with big shoulders, and I have to admit Boden tops fit me rather well.

motherinferior · 22/09/2005 11:13

Although admittedly one of them does serve up my bosoms like exotic tropical fruit, which means I have so far avoided it for the school run.

Enid · 22/09/2005 11:14

I used to work for an agency who did loads of mail order stuff and I did Racing Green, Urchin, Boden, Blooming Marvellous, Mothercare, Laura Ashley etc etc. I was the QUEEN of mail order copywriting.

lol Marina that is so right. Actually you should have seen what I used to write after a hard weekend clubbing in London he he he

motherinferior · 22/09/2005 11:15

this is the cardie I have in mind, do you think it will look overly mumsy?

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 11:16

You are petite but not wide ffs. And bundle bears no resemblance whatsoever to an oompah loompah! Trying to think of tropical fruits that look like boobs now.. Papaya? Mango?

Marina · 22/09/2005 11:16

More people on here have read YOU than Audrey Niffenegger, Alexander McCall Smith, etc etc.
Respect Enid (but I did sometimes wonder if some of the prose was written under the influence...)

Enid · 22/09/2005 11:17

actually, cod, weren't we going to start our own business doing copywriting

"Is it just me, or does anyone else go misty-eyed thinking of little girls twirling on the beach dreaming of ponies? And somehow, those dream girls are always dressed in this . Sigh. Well, enough nostalgia from me, luckily our designers have bought this dreamy style bang up to date."

puddle · 22/09/2005 11:18

MI that looks sexy, not mumsy.

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 11:18

All hail Enid the Mouth of Boden! Worship, fawn, worship, fawn.

puddle · 22/09/2005 11:19

is it really not the genuine voice of Johnny? Golly gosh, thought he dictated it all.

Enid · 22/09/2005 11:20

he did write it for the first few years

bundle · 22/09/2005 11:21

very you, MI. I of course would seek to "save money", buy a cardi from the secondhand shop and some lovely trimmings from VV Rouleaux, but end up f***g it up, so have to do Emergency Boden Order. go girl.

Cam · 22/09/2005 11:26

I like that cardi but the accompanying text surpasses even Johnnie's usual drivel

Enid, respect, wish I had a job like that, I could do it all day long

"Lauren, 29, wanted to be an astronaut but has settled for being the mother of 3 boys and keeping horses"

Must admit dd wears lots of Boden and I wear their T-shirts and cardis

bundle · 22/09/2005 11:30

sorry, Cam, had to post it now you've drawn my attention to it...

?Knights in White Satin (Trim Cardigan), never reaching the end.? Do you remember that? Or was it ?Nights in White Satin (Trim Cardigan)?? Either way it was terrible drivel, which undeservedly became a smooching classic. This, on the other hand, is a fabulous cardigan which has deservedly reached a similar, albeit smooch-free, status.

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 11:36

That is priceless text, isn't it?

motherinferior · 22/09/2005 11:36

Oh god

bundle · 22/09/2005 11:38

yeah, but I wear a cardigan with this text behind it:

"The Cardigan avec le Collar Français has, not inappropriately, gone melange this season. The lovely heathered effect only adds to its universally acknowledged appeal. "

(he does give good text, no?)

Cam · 22/09/2005 11:38

Think you need to work there again Enid

ScummyMummy · 22/09/2005 11:41

Oh lol again!

My sole Boden purchase ever is so boring in comparison:

There is something particularly comforting about slipping on a pair of moleskin trousers. And the more you wear them, the more comforting the feeling. So best to get started as soon as possible.

Feel short changed...

bundle · 22/09/2005 11:43

oh scum, there's not even a "notwithstanding" or "gamine" in there
