Vape-Free in 2026

Hi - I am looking for others who are quitting vaping.

I have quit multiple times, for months at a time, but I always start again. My DH vapes and is not interested in quitting which is difficult as I always know there's a vape in the house. Although, on the bright side, I have learnt something new each time I have "quit" and now I hopefully know how to be successful.

I really want this time to be different and would love to find some people in a similar position for support and encouragement. Whether you have quit, are currently trying to quit, or just thinking about it. All welcome.

Today is my Day 1.

@NotrialNodealso glad you slept! you must feel loads better.

DD is mostly sleeping but she has done a wee now so doctors are saying she should be allowed home later tonight.

Fell off the wagon last night - had to meet up with my elderly parent to tell them that other parent has passed away - so I drank heavily to get through it and then bought a vape - throat feels awful today so straight back on the wagon for me. Also has shown how closely linked it is with drinking for me so think I need to abstain from that for longer as well to break the link!

blankcanvas3 · 23/01/2026 09:35

sorry for your loss @namechangeformeeeeFlowers yep drinking is tough, i’ve smoked a few times after a drink rather than vaping but i know that’s worse!

Blacksheepatnewyear · 27/01/2026 20:51

Just catching up. How is everyone doing? I'm managing ok despite lots if stress. Feel better for it, hate being dependent on these awful things!! Going away with my partner next weekend & he doesn't know I vape so really trying to stick with it so I can have a nice break & not be craving nicotine. Had terrible headaches on the patches so sticking with gum for now. I definitely crave it more when im stressed so need to break that bond.

blankcanvas3 · 28/01/2026 19:15

@BlacksheepatnewyearGlad you’re getting on okay, sorry about the stress! How are you finding the gum? Where are you off to with your partner?

I’m doing terribly! I’ve vaped non stop the last couple of days, and to make matters worse DH hasn’t started up again and keeps saying ‘he’s moved past the cravings’ so I’m considering strangling him.

Vapeaddict · 30/01/2026 07:51

Hope you have a great time @Blacksheepatnewyear one of the things that rang true for me from the Allen Carr book was that if you don't have the ability to vape for whatever reason (he gives the example of being on an aeroplane) then the cravings are far more manageable. I know if I don't take my vape out I don't even think about it. Hopefully the same is true for you!

Oh god @blankcanvas3 I have a patio if you need it?! Seriously though, good for him but that's not very helpful is it. My DH struggled with cravings the whole time he'd stopped, said it just never went away. Surprising really that he managed to quit for 6 months with that in mind!

I'm still tapering. I've been mixing a little 11 and 6 but the 11 is nearly out so I'll do 6 for a bit, then mix it with 3 and go from there. I can't wait to be free of these again!

I’m on my way over with the body now! I just can’t stop, I’m so annoyed because I did so well for ages and I’ve just fallen back into it. Even my three year old said ‘mummy I thought you’d stopped’ yesterday when she caught me vaping on the drive 😂

Glad your tapering is going well, think I’m going to do the same thing. Day 1 on monday, again 🙄

Hi! Thanks to those who asked after me. I am still here, but also still vaping. Although 10mg now rather than 20 and I am trying to gradually reduce frequency. I just can't seem to get into the right headspace. Sad

Well done to all those who are still going, whether that's cold turkey or cutting down. Star

Hello, bit late but joining you all for a vape free year.
i quit a week ago. This is my fourth ‘serious’ attempt and feels quite good this time round.

In the past 2 years I have tried cold turkey, quitsure(twice), Allen carr and hypnosis. All of them telling me not to use nicotine replacement.

I started doing meditations and self hypnosis this year just out of curiosity and every time I was told to take in a deep breath I could hear a wheezey whistle and taste e-liquid in the back of my throat which didn’t feel good.
So I started on nicorette and made meditation a strict part of my morning and night routine. So far, it seems to be working okay.
The meditating is a bit odd as I’m doing silva technique but I’ve definitely felt my stress levels go right down and as a result the gum seems to be enough to curb the cravings.
I have gone 3 months before so not leaping for joy yet but this time I haven’t really been giving it much thought.
unlike previous attempts this time it just feels like it doesn’t fit in with my new routine which is a very different mindset to how I have felt previously.

That's great I hope you manage to quit for good this time. Can I just ask why were you told not to use nicotine replacement? I'm using patches and dreading when I have to go without them as last time I tried I got insomnia and went a bit mental and ended up buying myself some fags!

Mysonwontwash · 30/01/2026 17:18

@NotrialNodeal The quitsure and Allen carr method both suggest that NRT is not actually quitting as you are still addicted to nicotine. While that might be true I feel a lot better not breathing anything into my lungs so happy with gum for now.
Saying that, I was listening to a podcast which talked about nicotine gum and patches to aid with short term intense concentration and I need all the help I can get with that so not planning to give up gum at least until I finish my course I’m doing and all my exams. It’s actually quite nice not having to rush out as soon as a lecture is over to hit my vape which I always found a bit embarrassing. I want to look calm and in control! 😂

Are things okay at home now? Don’t worry about it, pretty sure all of us have failed in one way or another since you started the thread!

Blacksheepatnewyear · 09/02/2026 07:26

Well last weekend didnt go to plan as I came down with Norovirus while in London. Couldn't think of anything worse than being ill while away from home. On the plus side it gave me no interest in vaping or gum & I was too busy trying not be sick to even think about cravings. I wouldn't recommend it though. Hope everyone is still doing well. If you had told me a month ago I'd be vape free now I wouldn't have believed it so keep going, even if it's cutting down that's a win in my eyes.

Thank you. Yes things are much better generally. On the right track!

I am actually starting to get into a decent headspace now and thinking about quitting seriously again. Probably next week though as the kids are back at school. I am still trying to convince DH he wants to quit too and he is heading in the right direction as he is planning to reduce from 5mg to the next one down (2.5?) soon.

I have been focusing on eating well, drinking plenty of water and trying to go to bed early... and I am planning a run later on this week. Running will be the kicker as vaping definitely makes my asthma worse (one of the main reasons I want to quit) and going for a run is bound to give me a kick as I expect I will really struggle (I used to run 5k pretty comfortably a year ago, when I wasn't vaping). My goal for 2026 is to be fitter and healthier by the end of the year.

How is everyone else going? Xx

So glad things are better for you! Hopefully if DH quits too you’ll find it easier? Half term is killing me off, I don’t know about you! I’m not doing very well but I’m only vaping 5mg so going to do the same as you and go for it again once DD1 (who sometimes I think must be half satan!) is back at pre school.

izzy2076 · 16/02/2026 21:15

Have any of you looked at trying Desmoxan/cytisine? I’ve just ordered some as I really don’t think I can handle cold turkey.

No but most of us have used patches and gum instead of going cold turkey!

izzy2076 · 17/02/2026 19:33

I've just ordered some. It looks very effective according to the subreddit 'quit vaping,' I will keep you posted.

I have not heard of this... Off to Google.
I have previously quit cold turkey or with a bit of gum.
But the problem I have is staying quit... Do they make anything for that? Grin

@Noreeenthe thing I like about this is that even if you’re craving nicotine, vaping isn’t going to work as it will taste disgusting with no buzz. So you’re kind of forced into not vaping.
