I’m worried I’ve ruined Christmas

I’ve had a blocked nose for about 4/5 days and lost my voice, no other problems and none of the covid-19 symptoms stated on the NHS website.
I’m prone to allergies and sinusitis so it’s not unusual for me to have a blocked or runny nose.
My SD arrived here last weekend with an awful cold (of which we’d had no warning) which caused my youngest DC to get poorly, which in turn made me unwell but nothing dramatic, just cold symptoms.

Tonight (literally in the last 2 hours) I’ve developed a hacking cough and my lungs feel like they’re on fire. I’ve been able to book a covid test for the morning as there were lots available but I’m not sure how quickly the results come back and it’s our year to have my SCs for Christmas Eve.

I’m praying my results come back before lunchtime on 24th and obviously hoping it comes back negative.

Wtf am I meant to do? My DP is going to be so upset if it means he can’t see his kids and he has to isolate with me.

I know he’ll be furious too because I broke the rules to meet 2 friends this week after we suffered an awful tragedy regarding another friend of ours. We were distraught and I know it’s against the rules but we really needed each other.
We wore masks the majority of the time and were a distance apart so I’m worried he’ll blame me even though he’s a key worker and I work in an office 3 days a week so I (or we) could have picked it up from anywhere.

I’m so upset. I’ll be made out to be the evil stepmother who ruined Christmas.

It’ll be even worse if the results aren’t back in time so we’d have to miss out on seeing them and then get a negative result because I’ll have caused them to miss Christmas Eve together for nothing.

My DS was also supposed to be going to stay with his dad tomorrow night which will now have to be cancelled.

Also I went for a socially distant walk today with my mask on to visit a friend who’s child has just been diagnosed with leukaemia. We stayed more than 2m apart, fully masked up and outside but I’m still worried in case I am positive and the impact that could have on her seeing her child.

I don’t know what I’m asking for, I’m just really distressed and feeling very unwell Sad
I don’t want to ruin Christmas for my DCs, DP or my SCs.

Any news OP? I'm so sorry to hear how unwell you feel and the added stress of waiting to hear if it's covid must be awful on top of that. My thoughts are with your friend too x

SpongebobNoPants · 24/12/2020 11:58

No news yet. I just want the all clear Sad
I’ve spoken to my doctor and he said if the test is negative then it’s highly likely I have a chest infection so has written a prescription for antibiotics which DP has collected

We’ve contacted DP’s ex to tell her the situation as I’m still waiting for the results.
She said and I quote:
“Well just keep them apart a bit, I’ve got plans. I’ll be dropping the kids off at 4 o’clock”

She will definitely do this. Regardless of whether my test comes back positive and there’s nothing we can do about it.

Shock

There you go so you haven't ruined Christmas, because she doesn't care either way. You DH is having the kids regardless.

You need to stop feeling so guilty and worrying about what everyone thinks or feels. They're not that fussed about you are they?

moglovesmincepies · 24/12/2020 13:23

How are you feeling now @SpongebobNoPants?

innercitysumo · 24/12/2020 13:24

Any news op? ❤️

SpongebobNoPants · 24/12/2020 13:28

I feel a bit better because I’m dosed up to the eyeballs on lemsip and covonia (feel a high if I’m honest).
DP has taken my kids and the dog for a walk in the woods so I’m going to have a bath and enjoy an hours peace

I had a test tuesday and am still waiting for results. None of us know what's happening tomorrow until I've got them.

Wish I'd had a private one now, am really kicking myself.

SpongebobNoPants · 24/12/2020 14:11

@cherrypie790 I’m the same!

Mooey89 · 24/12/2020 14:22

Good luck op hope it’s negative and you feel better for tomorrow

MadeForThis · 24/12/2020 14:43

Hopefully it's negative

cherrypie790 · 24/12/2020 18:06

I've just read online that some test centres are still open over Christmas and the bank holidays, and that the labs will continue to work as normal.

Fingers and toes crossed for an answer by morning Sad

Anuta77 · 24/12/2020 19:58

I hope you feel better SpongebobNoPants. Take a lot of vitamin C! Stress makes us more sick, so it's great that your DH is more reasonable now and takes care of your kids, so you can relax.

SpongebobNoPants · 25/12/2020 00:29

I don’t have covid! Yay!
Just a shitty cold and a really bad chest... I still feel like death but at least I’m negative Grin

Yas! Have a good Christmas! 🎄❤️

jessstan1 · 25/12/2020 00:42

I am so pleased for you, Spongebob! That's marvellous news. Keep dosing up (within reason), have a brandy and sleep well. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Yay! Make sure you start the antibiotics as soon as you can. If they kick in quickly you should feel better soon.
KylieKoKo · 25/12/2020 01:18

Great result! Have a lovely Christmas

NewLockdownNewMe · 25/12/2020 04:02

Good to hear!

zaffa · 25/12/2020 09:48

Wonderful news! I actually came on here to check because I've just read in the Guardian about an outbreak amongst the staff at the Milton Keynes testing centre where 20 out of 70 staff are isolating and wanted to warn you that it may cause delays.
It never occurred to me that the testing staff may also have outbreaks on this scale - that really would bugger up testing!
I hope you feel better soon and have a wonderful Xmas x Xmas Smile

moglovesmincepies · 25/12/2020 13:35

Amazing news hope you have a lovely Christmas

cherrypie790 · 25/12/2020 22:06

I got a negative at 6am this morning.

But someone else at work got a positive so we made the decision to just have a quiet christmas without family to avoid risk.

What a fucking year Sad

Lollypop701 · 26/12/2020 20:19

Go op! Hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas

Gohackyourself · 27/12/2020 08:12

I hope you had a good time and luckily it’s a cold.

SpongebobNoPants · 27/12/2020 09:09

Thanks everyone. Christmas was lovely!
