We had the step-kids last night and I realised just how much dsd would love to see me and dp split up.

During this week I had been sorting out wardrobes etc, and I had thrown out loads of old clothes that we don't wear anymore. Dsd saw all of the dustbin bags full of old clothes and asked what was going on. Dp has a weird sense of humour and he told her that I had packed up all of his clothes and I was throwing him out!!

Dsd could hardly contain her excitement at the prospect and was so pleased I thought she was going to burst!!!!

I am so hurt, I have tried so hard with her. I must admit I have found it very hard to develop a relationship with her so I have worked extra hard with her and I thought that we were good friends at least now.

Hello Surfermum, how are you?

I think that she is saying it to get attention from both mummy and daddy. If dsd said it I don't blame her mum for being angry about it, in her position I think I would be concerned too.

Dsd is very attention seeking and she may have just found a way to get attention all round.

And if people have to be told you're not her mum, then you're doing OK. I love it when people are surprised I'm not dsd's BM because to me that says that I'm acting the same with dd as with dsd, which is what I aim to do. Some people we met on holiday once told me too that dsd clearly thinks a lot of me and they wouldn't have known I wasn't her mum. It was just so good to hear, because I thought I'd been nagging her all week and doting on dd, and that I might as well park my broomstick by our table as it was so obvious that I was a wicked SM.

Hey, Squirrel I'm fine thanks! Monster hangover thanks to Bunny, Sparkler, Delgirl and Merlin who poured wine down my neck all last night.

So, if she's doing it to get attention, it's about that, it isn't about you hun. Don't tie yourself up in knots over it, it sounds to me like you're doing a fab job. I bet when she's older she'll really appreciate you, but don't expect it now.

Squirrel3 · 16/09/2005 14:35

Thank you Surfermum, I hope you are right.

and, of course, I hope the hangover goes soon.

but,.......its not fair, I want wine too!!!!
