Anyone else watching today on day one?

I enjoyed the opening ceremony last night.

We have had it on when at home in the background and watched a lot.

Also watch The Last leg in Paris.

We haven't missed any swimming as ds is a para swimmer and so knows the swimmers (so I know a few to say hello to!) and is religiously screaming at the TV every time they are racing.

I feel for my poor neighbours. Luckily we've all lived here for nearly 20 years and so are cool about it 😂

No gold medal match for GB in rugby

HelenWheels · 01/09/2024 20:50

shame about the rugby, tough match

burblish · 01/09/2024 23:16

A whopping 18 medals today, 12 of them gold! 🥇 🏅🏆 Absolutely extraordinary!

HelenWheels · 02/09/2024 05:15

so proud

HelenWheels · 02/09/2024 05:16

a paraswimmer? @itsgettingweird
how did he get into that?

itsgettingweird · 02/09/2024 07:29

Went to lessons and then when his club did a gala he decided he wanted to race so joined a club.

Then we applied through swim England for a classification assessment (his club told me about it) as he has a physical disability.

He loves swimming and is older now (20) and still trains with his clubs national squad 9 times a week 🫣😂🤷‍♀️

HelenWheels · 02/09/2024 07:59

you all must be so proud @itsgettingweird

Nottogetapenny · 02/09/2024 08:09

Amazing day yesterday! We should be so proud of all our athletes at the Paralympic’s outstanding performances from them all.

Ellie Simmonds is a brilliant commentator, knowledgeable with a friendly attitude.

Well Done Team GB we are all behind you.🇬🇧

HelenWheels · 02/09/2024 11:59

Fantastic Dave Ellis and guide gold in triathlon

burblish · 02/09/2024 13:27

A whole load of triathlon medals today, of all colours! Very exciting finish in store for the men's wheelchair rugby bronze medal match - come on GB!

Yeah he's doing really well. Was at trials with them all in April but didn't quite make the nomination times (even if he had doesn't mean he'd be selected!) - but was much closer than we thought he'd get on one of them! He's still very young though for a male swimmer.

He's aiming for LA 28!

She is so nice in real life as well. Really friendly and so supportive of the swimmers coming through. What you see is what you get and she is genuinely pleased for them all. I think that's why she comes across so well - she's trained and raved with many of these swimmers and she really is just so enthusiastic and friendly.

But I agree we should be so proud.

The barriers these swimmers face before they even train is enough but they just get on with it. I think the important thing as well is you aren't "different". Many (like my ds) are the only disabled person in their club. At para events you are all disabled and so being disabled is the norm (iyswim?)

They also have the driest sense of humours - it's RL Last Leg most of the time 😂

burblish · 02/09/2024 16:45

@itsgettingweird Good luck to your boy - here's hoping we will be cheering him on in LA!

itsgettingweird · 02/09/2024 17:24

Louise Fiddes 🥳🥳🥳🥳 so pleased for her. What a star

Sulusu · 02/09/2024 17:27

Another great day for Team GB medal wise. So many fabulous performances. And congrats to the Aus rugby team too, that was another really tense match, they deserved that win today.

I've missed the daytime stuff - they made me go to work 😂😂

Ds not training this evening as they are on return schedule but swims tomorrow and Thursday evening so I'm relying on this thread to keep me informed until I can catch up!

Sulusu · 02/09/2024 17:49

I bloody love Ellie Simmonds. That is all. Had to just say that 😊
