What a load of overpaid rubbish. Does anyone think that they are any good ?
They seem incapable of making any effort, or playing as a team:

They won a very poor group and because the other results went our way not because of anything we didn't especially well.
Slow, lacklustre and not even getting the basics right half the time against teams that are very poor.
It's disappointing, but not surprising.

Justbetweenus · 25/06/2024 22:03

We might have won our group but the way they’re playing hardly fills me with confidence they’ll go far in the knockouts. Shame - it’s fun in England when England do well!

Then it’s never fun in England 😐

badgerz · 25/06/2024 21:50

you do better 🤷😀

No I couldn't do better. But then again it's not my profession, and I'm not being paid an eye watering amount of money most people could only dream of to do it 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️

Kane must have been playing a game I didn't watch if that's what he thought they did.

I hate the way the manager is always blamed for poor performance. It must be difficult to play as a team when they get so few chances to practice as one. The men do have a more full on playing schedule vs. The Lionesses who as we all know are bloody brilliant.

I agree the manager is not always to blame but actually I think Southgate has not made sensible choices. This team’s strength is going forwards but he stymies that in favour of caution. The changes were positive - he made them far, far too late and he should have brought on Toney or Watkins.

he was wrong not to have played Palmer before today. Pretty much everyone has been saying so. 71 minutes into the third game, he came on for the first time and England are brighter than they’ve been all tournament. He seemed to link up really well with Gordon but hard to say as it was 88 minutes before that happened.

Southgate absolutely is a large part of the problem.

Combattingthemoaners · 25/06/2024 22:15

Dreadful watch. Where has the notion come from that they shouldn’t be criticised too? Pundits are paid to dissect performances and their performances haven’t been good enough. They were better after the substitutes but still way under par for the calibre of players we have. So boring to watch.

BagFullOfNoodles · 25/06/2024 22:22

thisfilmisboring123 · 25/06/2024 22:01

Really don’t understand this opinion.

He’s there as a football presenter, surely entitled to his opinion and paid to give it.

What would be the point if he just sat there saying, ‘ah they were brilliant’ or the likes when we clearly know they weren’t?

It's probably coloured by my opinion that Lineker is an egotistical twat. I do also think that to jump straight to 'they need to get rid of Southgate and Kane' after one draw (which is what he did) , having previously having them on a pedestal, is an overreaction and the kind of reactive nonsense that's unhelpful

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 25/06/2024 22:29

Can someone explain why Denmark are 2nd and Slovenia 3rd when they have the same score, same gd etc?
They literally had identical match results (1-1, 1-1, 0-0)

I think because they came above them in qualifying

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 25/06/2024 22:35

I really wanted England to do well. There's no attack though, no passion, collectively they seem afraid to offend.

Dontevenlookatme · 25/06/2024 22:36

Well I know bugger all about football and even I was disappointed.

They have the same points, same goal difference, their game ended 1-1. Then you movemon to counting yellow cards. Both had the same. So they go to comparing qualification rankings.

GettingAwayFromYou · 25/06/2024 22:37

They seem scared to make a mistake by taking a risk. I wondered if maybe they're more anxious about failing these days, or becoming a target of the England fans' fury. The constant whistling tonight was awful.

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 25/06/2024 22:38

Most of the England players are playing for the top premiership teams (or top teams in other leagues) and yet can’t deliver a decent free kick, or accurate ball into the box. Crazy.

itsmylife7 · 25/06/2024 22:38

ssd · 25/06/2024 21:42

Try being Scottish...

I watched that game and thought Scotland played good. Was gutted they lost .

Rewis · 25/06/2024 22:40

That was boring. And Harry and John were playing in a different game than what I watched. Subs should have come on sooner. Also defending with 10 players is not the way to go when you're suppose to be the better team and you have nothing to lose. Take some risks. Like passing forward.

My bf apologised that he made me watch this 😅

RiverF · 25/06/2024 22:40

They've done what they needed to to finish top of their group. There was nothing to play for today, only the risk of injury and bookings, they were sensible not to try too hard.

The Champions quite often don't impress in the group stages.

We'll see what happens next.

QuiltedHippo · 25/06/2024 22:42

I know nothing about foodball but it was so dull. I've been on holiday so have just been filling in my wall chart tonight, what a load of boring scores.

I agree about the champions not always doing well at groups stages but Southgate’s inexplicable determination to sit back on one goal has been fucking us for years. We would have won Euro 2024 had he not tried to defend the whole game after our early goal.

i don’t agree nothing to play for today. Had Denmark beaten Serbia (which they had a great chance of doing), a draw would not have been enough to win the group, and avoid the tough side of the draw

SlothOnARope · 25/06/2024 22:49

A boring match doesn't make them complete and utter shite.

Uninspiring maybe.

Come on England, get your overpaid arses into gear.

Crumpetsssss · 25/06/2024 22:56

I usually like Southgate, but he doesn’t appear to have built a team this time. It feels like 11 blokes playing 11 different matches.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 25/06/2024 22:59

Saw a post on SM today which made me smile.

'The men's Lionesses team aren't very good are they'?

Petesbowtie9 · 25/06/2024 23:00

MaryMaryVeryContrary · 25/06/2024 21:42

Yeah I agree.

Have had a number of conversations with DP over the last few weeks about why apparently brilliant players simply flop when they all get together to play for England

It can’t be the management as it’s the same story every tournament

My theory is they’re (mostly) not very bright and that this is masked when they’re among players from other countries, but stark when all together

Edited

But this just doesn’t make sense - we were finalists last Euros

Knitgoodwoman · 25/06/2024 23:01

What I find shocking is you’ve got the likes of Kane, Bellingham, Foden, 3 men who are the some of the best in their respective, and very competitive leagues, our squad is worth what hundreds of millions/over a billion? you'd think they’d be on fire!

Compared to Slovenia, how much are their collective players worth? I looked through the clubs they played for and they’re no where near as impressive.

friendlycat · 25/06/2024 23:05

Well at least they’re top of the group that’s quite a miracle really.

They play too defensively. They don’t run with the ball on attack. They pass badly and surrender the ball too many times to the opposition. They don’t aggressively run forward but pass backwards. There’s nobody to deliver passes into Kane. He’s too old now to run and deliver. He needs a feeder like Lineker used to have in Beardsley.

They don’t play cohesively as a team but that’s nothing new.

I could go on, but be grateful that we’re through to the next round.
