Is anyone enjoying the start of the new season?

Usually on Thursdays I have an NRL game to watch, but no men's fixtures this week, but the first game of the Women's State of Origin series, so I decided to watch that. I don't especially follow women's RL, the only player I know Down Under is Ali Bagginshaw, cos she's been going years. Anyway, very good contest, and NSW the deserved winners. Remarkable pace and finishing from the NSW winger Jaime Chapman. 25000 crowd, too. At the least the Aussies seem to get somethings right these days!

Formby · 16/05/2024 21:14

Only watched a couple of women’s matches but aim to see more.
Gearing up to watch the challenge cup matches this weekend. Think both games could be close.

duc748 · 17/05/2024 00:40

The sense I get (and I can't claim to follow the women's game closely) is that in England, York and Saints have hoovered up most of the top players early doors, so the league is not so competitive just now. But of course, the only way to grow the game is to bring through your own young players through, which is what the initiative at Edge Hall Road is trying to achieve,

Setting off for the coach! 😃

nowtygaffer · 18/05/2024 12:42

Hope we get some good games today!

Sirzy · 18/05/2024 12:53

Brilliant performance from Saints women. I was expecting this to be a lot closer

Formby · 18/05/2024 16:13

Didn’t expect such a score difference today.

Watching Wigan away!

Wigan is the major problem of the UK today.

Wigan are doing good things on and off the pitch, and if some of our other 'big clubs' were as well run, the sport in England would be in a lot stronger state.

[sideways glance in Headingley's direction]

Sirzy · 19/05/2024 15:25

As much as I dislike Wigan you can’t fault them for the work they do off the field at all levels.

Lassi · 19/05/2024 17:35

I agree Sirzy.

Formby · 19/05/2024 18:06

We’re going to Wembley!

duc748 · 19/05/2024 18:34

No surprise, but a lot more comfortable than I expected. Once again, Watson's Huddersfield side didn't really turn up in a big match. Sam Burgess might almost wish his players had been given a tougher test. Anyway, SB certainly out-coached Watson as Matty Peet did to Peters.

Formby · 26/05/2024 19:55

Really proud of our defence v Catalan yesterday.
Interesting to see how the teams are going to line up in our game v Wigan next week.

duc748 · 26/05/2024 20:37

Yes, it will. Solid win for Wigan at Salford, in appalling conditions, although it was fine here. Some remarkable results in the NRL this week too.

duc748 · 28/05/2024 01:22

I watched Cats v Wire this afternoon, Formby, and I have to say, I was very impressed. George is in fine form, and you look like a proper team. And defended very well for long periods. Even though, it's fair to say, Cats didn't really throw that much at you. Except Satae; he was immense. Two big contests coming up.

Formby · 28/05/2024 08:37

George Williams one match ban, so that will change the dynamics for the match this weekend.

duc748 · 28/05/2024 12:31

Might well have rested him for the league game anyway. Expect Matty Peet to rest a few, and Burgess too, whatever he's saying now.

duc748 · 01/06/2024 13:51

Going to the match, Formby? See you there! 😀🏉

Sweden99 · 01/06/2024 14:06

Good win for Saints but they are not looking like Champions.

Wasn’t able to go unfortunately as we had a family ‘do’ but just watched on tv - what a game. Close games don’t do much for my blood pressure!
Next week is going to be awesome

Sirzy · 01/06/2024 20:52

I think wire got the moral high ground today. Will be interesting to see how it pans out next week

duc748 · 01/06/2024 23:30

Keighran is a decent centre and a very good goal-kicker, but bloody hell, I've said it ever since he came to the club, he needs to sort out his tackle technique; he always seems to have a high shot in him. And now it's almost certainly cost him a place at the CCF. Saying that, he's not the only one, from either side, who will be sweating on the judiciary decisions next week, though.

duc748 · 02/06/2024 11:33

Also does every entrant into the Halliwell Jones need to get checked out by a sniffer dog, or just the away fans? 😮
