Can't find a thread so thought I'd start one nice and early for some pre chat.

Really don't think either England or Wales are going to get out of the pool rounds 🙁

Bad luck Scotland. I thought they played better than the score would suggest.

Don't think darcy Graham was alone in not taking his chances but that one stood out. Think we were just outclassed.

Huwipulotu · 10/09/2023 18:57

I’m in a complete post rugby strop. I know it’s childish but I can’t help it.

isthismylifenow · 10/09/2023 18:59

Proud South African here .😄

Even we were a bit flummoxed by the Listerine kit. It's to assist distinguishing between light and dark colours for the visually impaired.

Abhannmor · 10/09/2023 19:09

Bah. Very tough opening match for Scotland. The group itself is insane. As is the NZ / France pool.

There is zero chance of the best 2 teams making the final. The other half of the draw is a cakewalk. England should top their group. Unless they slip up against Burkina Faso.

Meanwhile Ireland must beat the sorely aggrieved Scots or the rampant Boks to progress. It's naw bluidy fair. 😭

Abhannmor · 10/09/2023 19:11

PS I was surprised Stuart Hogg retired before the WC. Thought he had a couple of seasons left in him. Class player.

I'm expecting a France v SA final at this point (which I think is possible).

I wondered if he had an injury/illness that meant he had to stop right away.

Think there were some "extra curricular" reasons he left the team. He's not behaved well and became more bother than he was worth.

I’m exhausted 🤯 I thought it was the toughest game I’ve seen all weekend and I felt proud of the Scotland squad. South Africa were good-although not brilliant, they left a lot of points on the field. I thought Jack Dempsey was fantastic (Glasgow hat firmly on head!) and Zander showed why he’s our first choice No 3. Lots to build on going into the Tonga game in a fortnight 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙

Fiji"s national anthem is tonight's clear winner.

Suspect the lipreaders would have had a field day if they'd got cameras inside the RSAvSco scrum.

PinkFrogss · 10/09/2023 20:17

In the RSA v SCO game the refs life seemed to flash before his eyes when he made that mistake about the captain.

Some very bad and inconsistent reffing decisions in that game tbh. The head to head getting ignored, the player being held around the neck (right before the captain error) and others.

Hoping for a Fiji win tonight, love an underdog

Glasgowgin · 10/09/2023 20:34

Frustrating game but at least we denied SA the try bonus. Realistically we weren’t going to win it…
Thought Dempsey had a great game, Finn was great in defence but was totally targeted and shut down in attack. Matt F had a few good carries when he came on. SA line speed and speed at chasing their kicks was out of this world.

What was the error the ref made when he was apologising a lot. I saw the desperate apologising but not the incident.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/09/2023 20:41

He said something like "You're not the ref, don't come at me" and told the player off for talking to him, then asked who the captain was, and it was the player who was talking to him - giant front rower. Grin

Ah I see. Yes he seemed very eager to not upset him.

FinnRussell · 10/09/2023 20:46

Was pretty awkward when the ref didn't know who the captain was. Felt sorry for him but really something the ref should be on top of!

GrouchyKiwi · 10/09/2023 20:53

Do they have to update the ref when the original captain goes off? Because it was Kolisi at the beginning, and then he was subbed off later.

PinkFrogss · 10/09/2023 20:53

One of the South Africa players was grabbed around the neck. Kolisi was off so another player was acting as captain. He tried to approach the ref about the player being grabbed around the neck and the ref shouted something like “you are not the referee do not come at me. Where is your captain” to which he replied he was the captain.

Understand it was an error but was still pretty disrespectful of the ref. Knowing the captain is a basic that shouldn’t have to be said in a World Cup game.

And the player being held around the neck should have been looked at rather than immediately dismissed. There was a bad head to head at the start of the game too, same thing England got a red for yesterday that didn’t get looked at.

EufyProsser · 10/09/2023 21:08

Is anyone else driving their family insane by singing, Nonnnn rrrrrien de rrrrrien, in a shocking Edith Piaf voice every time they get up to make a cup of tea?

just me then

gingercat02 · 10/09/2023 21:13

DS is!

It's also such a dull, cliched choice of song. I think I'd rather have Joe Le Taxi.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 10/09/2023 21:24

@EufyProsser

Moi aussi.

PinkFrogss · 10/09/2023 21:43

World Rugby needs to get all their refs on the same page asap. Application of rules and punishments has been nowhere near consistent between refs all weekend.

AndNobbyDancing · 10/09/2023 22:08

Late to the chat but what a weekend. Lucky enough to have been able to watch all the matches. Really enjoyed Wales Fiji, bit gutted for Fiji in the end despite wanting Wales to win.
