I can hardly believe Germany are out! I was sure they'd scramble something - a penalty, an apocryphal rebound off keeper's bum sort of goal - right at the last minute, but no.

Congratulations to the women of Morocco. What an achievement - and not scraping through, two good wins and an attractive, attacking playing style. This will do so much for the girls back home and confirm to the King that it's worth backing his country's women's team.

England fans can be proud that the Lionesses are one of only three teams to get through to the knockout rounds with a perfect score. Only one goal conceded as well. The standard is so much higher than last WWC and some of the established teams were ready, others weren't. And some have learned from each match, and some haven't, is the way I see it.

The next round is going to be brutal.

TheEyesOfLucyJordon · 04/08/2023 10:41

Well, the England Lionesses may never get a better shot of making the final.

When opportunity knocks ...... open the door 🙏

COME ON ENGLAND 😍😍

@BellaAmorosa
It wasn't me! I was recording the netball as well Confused

BellaAmorosa · 04/08/2023 16:20

Sorry! I will check more carefully before I start throwing blame around, in the future.

Rachel Brown-Finnis's score predictions for the round of 16. They all look like solid predictions to me, except that I think there will be more goals in the France v Morocco match, which she reckons will finish 1-0.

Swiss v Spain. Spain thrashing them. Unfortunate own goal by Spain

imed · 05/08/2023 07:12

@BellaAmorosa Smile
Spain are looking more impressive today but there are still obvious weaknesses at the back.

imed · 05/08/2023 07:13

How did Switzerland manage to get through?

imed · 05/08/2023 08:56

Love the Japanese anthem.

DuncinToffee · 05/08/2023 09:02

I am here Brew

Not convinced about Japan's kit

LadyShimura · 05/08/2023 09:15

I'm not sure if I'm keen on that kit.

DuncinToffee · 05/08/2023 09:16

Goal Japan

LadyShimura · 05/08/2023 09:16

And Japan scores.

DuncinToffee · 05/08/2023 09:21

Norway equalise, great counter

imed · 05/08/2023 09:21

Goaaaal!

LadyShimura · 05/08/2023 09:22

Well played by Norway.

DuncinToffee · 05/08/2023 09:37

Despite the kit, Japan are a joy to watch

One big disadvantage of a two centre tournament is that it greatly reduces the list of possible opponents. Teams could well end up playing each other twice.

DuncinToffee · 05/08/2023 10:08

Japan lead again

OP posts:
imed · 05/08/2023 10:09

Own goal? Lucky Japan

DuncinToffee · 05/08/2023 10:17

A deflection rather than own goal but all of Norway's own making,

littlbrowndog · 05/08/2023 10:30

Just home. That kit 🙈

DuncinToffee · 05/08/2023 10:38

3-1
