F1 2023 - Watchalong thread

At the moment it's pre-season testing and they are in Bahrain as that is where the first race happens

Is anyone watching the preseason testing at the moment?

Anyone follow the WTF1 personnel change over the past few weeks (social media channel) and that Tommy & Matt have set up P1 with just Matt & Tommy as co-owners?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what progress the other teams have been able to make since RBR had their wind tunnel time reduced due to their overspend in 2022 (that was their punishment for doing that).

I really enjoyed watching Alonso bide his time and play a really steady game. Doesn't seem like anyone has the pace to take on RB but that makes watching the middle of the pack easier; they get more airtime and discussion.

I'm a real F1 newbie so I'm trying to learn as I'm watching. It's a lot to take in.

If there is anything you aren't sure of in relation to the sport @Jesko, just ask. It's great getting new fans involved in the sport! Welcome aboard.

Glad Alonso got on the podium, but 🥱 for 1st and 2nd.

Feel for Norris he should be higher up in the pack.

Jesko · 05/03/2023 18:21

Thanks @LookItsMeAgain 🙂

GrouchyKiwi · 05/03/2023 18:27

I know it's a bit hypocritical of me, as a Mercedes fan, to find RBR's dominance boring, but Mercedes at least allowed its drivers to race, so there was still interest. When the 2nd driver doesn't challenge within a team it's a lot more difficult to watch.

Agree it's great to see another team in the mix. I'd love for McLaren to do well again, and for Williams to finally find some form.

JustLurkingAway · 05/03/2023 18:28

Very happy with a 1-2 todaySmile also very very happy for Alonso as well! Stroll did well too considering. Sargeant did well too for his first race imo.

Yes me too. I suspect Max may well still win but at least it's not going to be easy for him.

Although thinking about it, it's a tricky over take track so we'll see. I think some drivers don't bother fighting him and just let him through.

Whyjustwhy123 · 19/03/2023 13:01

Can V get on poll from so far back? My guess is yes.

Jesko · 19/03/2023 13:01

Same although I'll have to watch it later.

Team Alonso!

He absolutely can

Race time bang smack in the middle of Mothers Day Sunday tea (if I was more selfish I would have said for Morhers day I want a wine, some crisps and an empty room with the F1 on)

Tilda77 · 19/03/2023 13:05

Me too! I'd like to see a Mercedes on the podium....there's always hope😅
It should be a good race with the mixed up grid or absolute chaos!

Oh I'd be putting my foot down with that one haha!! Go for it!!

Whyjustwhy123 · 19/03/2023 13:07

I’m hoping Russel is on podium.

I share your views! The kids are old enough now and I'm able to watch the F1 in peace but my mum will be here and she won't be so understanding. I'll watch it with one eye😂

Sulusu · 19/03/2023 18:41

Perez world champion sounds better than Verstappen world champion to me.
I fear it's unlikely though.

It was a boring race really. Unless Merc or Ferrrai can make big strides soon it's going to be a very dull season.

Yup that sums it up. I saw some rumours that the Red Bull sponsors were unhappy with how little screen time their cars got in Bahrain as they were so far ahead. I think Duracell on the Williams got more screen time today than Oracle did on the Red Bulls. 😂
