F1 2023 - Watchalong thread

At the moment it's pre-season testing and they are in Bahrain as that is where the first race happens

Is anyone watching the preseason testing at the moment?

Anyone follow the WTF1 personnel change over the past few weeks (social media channel) and that Tommy & Matt have set up P1 with just Matt & Tommy as co-owners?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what progress the other teams have been able to make since RBR had their wind tunnel time reduced due to their overspend in 2022 (that was their punishment for doing that).

Ant Davison is, in my view, often underestimated as a driver and technician. He was unlucky not to have a longer F1 career.

He has done a lot of the sim work for Mercedes, and they say he is superb at giving technical feedback to help develop the car. Plus I am fairly sure he works with F1 video games/e-sports makers to make the games as realistic as possible.

Splashed out on a NowTV deal and watching my first f1 session for years!

Sulusu · 04/03/2023 16:46

No big surprises then from qualy with a Red Bull front row, except for Hulkenburg making Q3!

McLaren looked particularly dreadful though, what is going on there.

Tilda77 · 04/03/2023 17:38

In Q1 I was hopeful that it wasn't going to go all RBs way but in the end the result was as expected. Looking forward to the race tomorrow. Anything can happen!

Booooot · 04/03/2023 17:50

Has anyone been the to the silverstone festival before? Thinking of ideas for my husbands birthday! Was wondering what it’s like and if it’s worth the money!

ListenLinda · 04/03/2023 18:35

Checking in, bit late to the party!

was hoping Lewis would be getting that 8th championship finally this season, but so far not holding much hope.

Can’t be bothered with a RB walkthrough again.

blimey that Aston Martin is a bit fast isn’t it?

In two minds about Ferrari, they are too unreliable.

ListenLinda · 04/03/2023 18:41

Oh, and I also will never get over AD21.

It was a disgrace then, it’s a disgrace now. He was absolutely robbed, and everyone just stood back and let it happen.

Brazilianadventure · 04/03/2023 21:19

@ListenLinda I agree AD21 was disgraceful, and the stewards who ratified the result have never had to explain their decision.

I comfort myself with the fact the men obviously couldn’t think of a creative and fair solution. Bless them.

As I’ve said up thread in my view MV and LH should be joint WC for 2021.

Sulusu · 05/03/2023 13:59

Watching the build up. I want Naiomi's F1 necklace!

The drivers all seem to be in a great mood on the truck drive around all laughing and chatting.

To quote Charles, "let's goooo!".

RicciardoPerez · 05/03/2023 15:35

Poor Piastri :(

namejump · 05/03/2023 15:47

Ocon is having a stinker too!

RicciardoPerez · 05/03/2023 16:10

Aww and now leclerc :(

RicciardoPerez · 05/03/2023 16:23

McLaren not having a good time

GrouchyKiwi · 05/03/2023 16:27

That's not the start I wanted Ferrari to have.

Alonso seems to be enjoying himself.

So far it's pretty much same old, apart from the Aston Martin improvement.

Sulusu · 05/03/2023 16:46

Well it's really nice to have another team in the mix for the titles. Hope that continues all season. I do wish it was Seb in the car though 😕
And poor Esteban Occon, that was ridiculous!

Sulusu · 05/03/2023 16:48

Also a good start for Williams which I'm delighted to see as a supporter of theirs for decades! Sargent did better than I expected.

JimnJoyce · 05/03/2023 16:50

So happy for Alonso and Albon, shame for Lando

Brazilianadventure · 05/03/2023 16:55

I’ve not spotted it yet, Is Naomi’s necklace by Alyssa Smith as she makes a lot of F1 jewellery?

ListenLinda · 05/03/2023 17:08

‘How far in front are the Red bulls?’ ‘Uh, 51 seconds’

Jesus, Mercedes have really stuffed it up again.
I won’t be watching if this title is going to be wrapped up before the Summer break.

Feel for Leclerc, I’m hoping he will be the one to challenge this season and hopefully win if a Merc driver doesn’t.

HolibobsinApril · 05/03/2023 17:22

I just can't like Lance!

I won't be watching either if Verstappen is going to win every week. I want Lewis to challenge him but would be happy if anyone challenged him to be honest.

Saw Geri grinning like a loon and turned it off just in case we had to suffer her opinion on the race

AvocadoPlant · 05/03/2023 17:45

Mercedes have come out with fighting talk though, Toto’s comments are really interesting.

The fairest thing to do would have been to annul the result of that race completely and remove all points scored.

😁

LookItsMeAgain · 05/03/2023 17:49

I nodded off during the race.

Even when Michael Schumacher was winning race after race, it was never a done deal before the lights went out. I realise that we're only after having one race so far but it does look like RBR have managed to get more out of their car than the others.

I was delighted to see Alonso on the podium and I loved his "Yes....bye bye" as he did an overtaking manoeuvre. I love the added Driver/cockpit view and that you can hear the unedited driver to pit lane comms on Sky Q. I'd love it if there was a way that we could watch that and select whether we wanted to listed to either the live commentary (so we could dip out of it to see what is happening elsewhere on the track) or the drivers comments. That would be the sweet spot for me!
