At the moment it's pre-season testing and they are in Bahrain as that is where the first race happens

Is anyone watching the preseason testing at the moment?

Anyone follow the WTF1 personnel change over the past few weeks (social media channel) and that Tommy & Matt have set up P1 with just Matt & Tommy as co-owners?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what progress the other teams have been able to make since RBR had their wind tunnel time reduced due to their overspend in 2022 (that was their punishment for doing that).

If I was Christian I would swap Checo for Liam.

If I was Christian I would swap Checo for Liam.

That could destroy Liam, think Pierre, Danill and Alex. Liam needs at least a year in AT before going to RBR.

JimnJoyce · 24/09/2023 09:16

just watched the interview with Christian Horner, he was very nice about Checo.

That’s what the other drivers were saying last weekend; that normal business will resume.

It does beg the question of what F1 will do. Maybe the rest of the world enjoy seeing the same driver win all the time? But it really puts me off!

Puts me off too. Normally me and DH get up to watch the early morning races but not bothering this year.

Seeing Verstappen sprint ahead each week and then just lead a procession is so so boring. He gets so far ahead it's obvious that unless his car has a problem he is going to win with no competition.

It doesn't help that I can't stand him but even if it were Lewis doing so well I want to see actual racing between the front runners. I would assume the majority of F1 fans want to see the same even if Verstappen fans although one of my friends is quite happy seeing Verstappen win so easily every week.

JimnJoyce · 24/09/2023 12:14

but isn't this how it works in F1. Everybody complains about RBR dominance but before them it was Mercedes dominance. How do you think LH got to so many world championships

Agree totally. I'm no fan of RBR or Max but Vettel and Lewis were always in the lead too. Mercedes still hold the record for constructors wins.
I just ignore Max and enjoy the rest of the race.
WTF was that debacle with Checo?
Delighted McLaren are back.

LetMeEnfoldYou · 24/09/2023 12:58

I'm just coming up to the final lap now and kinda enjoying Sainz' sass 😁

I agree it's much better if you ignore the existence of Verstappen, and focus on the actual race behind; it's got a lot more competitive over the course of the season.

Loving Liam Lawson and think it's a shame he isn't being kept up; he's objectively better than Tsunoda even as a clear rookie.

But Lewis didn't week after week just lead a procession around the track. He also didn't have the win sewn up so early. I believe if Verstappen wins the next race he is Champion.

I am a massive Lewis fan and, of course, wanted him to win as many races as possible but I also wanted to see him actual deserve the wins by there being competition from other drivers.

Lewis won lots of his races because of his skill as a driver. Being on pole, streaking away and then just being ahead by miles for every lap does not show skillful driving

spottedinthewilds · 24/09/2023 18:36

I think if Max is champion early and seeing that RB are now constructors champions I think when should take some nice time off and give us some good races for the end of the season 😁

Whyjustwhy123 · 24/09/2023 18:59

I agree I just focus on the pack behind MV.

But it’s going to get ridiculous if this carries onto next season.

Whyjustwhy123 · 24/09/2023 19:00

@spottedinthewilds that would be great! To see some different drivers get P1!

Brazilianadventure · 24/09/2023 19:11

@mydogisthebest I agree that we had much closer racing even if it was Lewis and Nico. This is why Checo is a slight disappointment, most world champions had a team mate pushing them all season.

Lewis typically started the year slow and quite often it was after the summer break he came through strongly.

LookItsMeAgain · 02/10/2023 17:32

It's race week again!!!

Qatar baby!!!

Yay looking forward to it. My weekends feel weirdly empty without F1 races. I really need to get out more! 😀

Brazilianadventure · 02/10/2023 19:49

Sprint race weekend so lots of action.

Brazilianadventure · 02/10/2023 19:59

I don’t know if anyone has been keeping track of Las Vegas, but it seems there are a some disgruntled locals and businesses. They have closed the Bellagio fountains, probably to build the grandstand. Closed off pavements outside the hotels and are planning on blocking the pedestrian bridges over the strip so people without a ticket can’t see the race.

I have also seen reported they were planning to put billboards in front of restaurants who wouldn’t pay the fee F1 wanted them to pay. There are also reports hotel room prices have fallen, possibly they were initially set too high.

I know F1 keep a tight control over everything and interestingly in Vegas they bought the land to build the paddock, paddock club, the main grandstands including levels of hospitality. So they will be looking for a good return on the investment.

In the end, based on Miami, they are going to get loads of celebrities so it’s going to be interesting to see what the racing is like.

LookItsMeAgain · 02/10/2023 20:12

Do we know how many years racing will be happening in Las Vegas. The track looks very boring and if F1 is bringing in these silly rules about blocking windows and bridges, I can’t see it lasting long there.

Brazilianadventure · 02/10/2023 22:23

I think given the investment its likely to be 10 years.

I am not hopeful of an exciting race.

gingercat02 · 03/10/2023 08:09

Still on the American theme, Andretti Global has been approved by the FIA, so hopefully new team on the way.

Shame about Rodin, I would have loved Jamie Chadwick to get a shot, although as DH reminded me, I'm not a fan of positive discrimination usually.

Brazilianadventure · 03/10/2023 15:08

I would also like to have seen Carlin in, they seem to have a history of getting drivers into F1 and this seems the next step for them.

I agree getting Jamie Chadwick into F1 would be good. WRT positive discrimination, I am fairly relaxed about this given the number of pay drivers over the years. i know some have been fantastic e.g. Nikki Lauda, but some have been awful. I also think family connections have been used.

Brazilianadventure · 06/10/2023 19:19

So Max on pole for the race. Feel sorry for Lando and there is a bit of a mixed up grid with Carlos and Checo out in Q2.

Lance Stroll’s reaction seemed over the top, I wonder if Lawrence is thinking he wants AM to do better and like RB the 2nd driver is not maximising the potential of the cars. Might he make a difficult decision to replace Lance for 2024?

BadBadDecisions · 06/10/2023 19:29

Piastri is looking pretty good. You can really see the younger guard taking their places this season.

And yes, I'd replace Stroll.

Sulusu · 06/10/2023 19:53

What a weird end to qualifying with Piastri finding out about his lap deletion in the middle of the interview.

spottedinthewilds · 06/10/2023 20:00

Has anyone here done a hospitality package? We are thinking of Imola as my work means that I can't take time off for many of the European ones.

The one I have seen includes hotel, transfers to track, pit walk, evening with a possible celebrity, low loader ride around the track. All 3 days.

Brazilianadventure · 06/10/2023 22:26

@spottedinthewilds i haven’t as they are £££ if they include paddock club. Where are the seats?
