F1 2023 - Watchalong thread

At the moment it's pre-season testing and they are in Bahrain as that is where the first race happens

Is anyone watching the preseason testing at the moment?

Anyone follow the WTF1 personnel change over the past few weeks (social media channel) and that Tommy & Matt have set up P1 with just Matt & Tommy as co-owners?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what progress the other teams have been able to make since RBR had their wind tunnel time reduced due to their overspend in 2022 (that was their punishment for doing that).

Poor George - such a shame.

Now THAT was a race 🎉

Wiii · 17/09/2023 14:55

So good. Poor George

mydogisthebest · 17/09/2023 15:04

So so happy to see Lewis get 3rd. Really enjoyed the race today and so good not to have RB at the front

I can't believe Max didn't get a penalty for any of the three incidents yesterday, especially the impeding one. Apparently no one from Alpha Tauri turned up to the stewards meeting about Max impeding Yuki. This just highlights the inconsistency from the stewards, and the problems with Red Bull having a second team.

RBR have more Teflon on them than a good set of saucepans! Nothing sticks to them.

Can't believe he didn't get a penalty either.

The race today was far more exciting without them being in the front of the grid. So pleased that Max wasn't on the podium. It just goes to show quite how close the other teams really are when you take RBR out of the equation.

I found that race really exciting.

I feel sorry for George clipping the wall in the final laps only to take himself out of the race. I'm really pleased that he didn't collect Lando and Lewis while doing it.

Brilliant. Singapore delivers once again.

What a great race! Well done Sainz and Norris 👍

Sulusu · 17/09/2023 16:21

Nice to have a different winner, and three different teams on the podium.

Absolutely gutted for George though, I was tearing up watching his post race interview, he was devastated.

Whyjustwhy123 · 17/09/2023 16:58

What a change having the top 3 actually race it out. Gutted for George but it was his mistake and I guess that’s what happens!

Happy for the 3 at top.

Also enjoyed RB not winning for once.

Whyjustwhy123 · 17/09/2023 17:03

@LookItsMeAgain i agree thank god George didn’t take out Lando and Lewis…

burblish · 17/09/2023 20:23

Gosh, the difference it makes to your viewing experience when the result isn’t a foregone conclusion from Lap 1!

VooVooV · 17/09/2023 21:49

Echoing all your posts above.
Really felt for George.
But, by god, that’s what a race should be.
(can we just expel RB?)

Tilda77 · 17/09/2023 22:31

Finally a decent and exciting race and I wasn't able to watch live this week.
I would've liked to see George, Lando or Lewis win but happy for Carlos. Anyone other than a RB was a good result. Hopefully more of the same at the next race!

LookItsMeAgain · 20/09/2023 11:57

It's RACE WEEK again!!!

Very early this time on this side of the planet...think coverage starts around 3am.

I do like Suzuka and think there is something special and wonderful about the Japanese F1 fans.

Suzuka is my second favourite track after Silverstone!

I will get up early for qualy and the race, but will skip free practice this weekend as I need my sleep!

Brazilianadventure · 20/09/2023 21:44

Looks like it’s Liam not DR in the Alpha Tauri. I think he is doing a great job and should get a seat next year.

The big question is was Singapore a blip for RB or is there a glimmer of hope for different winners for the rest of the season?

Brazilianadventure · 22/09/2023 14:39

Looks like it wasn’t the technical changes but track specific as RB are flying again.

LetMeEnfoldYou · 22/09/2023 15:01

Unfortunately 😴

Ditto - Silverstone first and Suzuka second for me, too! Suzuka is always a favourite amongst drivers, too.

That’s what the other drivers were saying last weekend; that normal business will resume.

It does beg the question of what F1 will do. Maybe the rest of the world enjoy seeing the same driver win all the time? But it really puts me off!

Brazilianadventure · 22/09/2023 21:04

@Whyjustwhy123 I know it was a vain hope but at least we got one different winner.

Sulusu · 23/09/2023 08:24

Yup normality has resumed, Verstappen so far ahead of everyone else in qualifying, including his teammate. Surely Perez won't be driving for RB next year?

Amazing by Piastri out qualifying Norris on a track he has never driven before. Very impressive.

Steev · 23/09/2023 08:32

I think Christian would love to swap Oscar for Perez.

Brazilianadventure · 23/09/2023 11:28

@steev that’s why Zac has nailed him down with a 3 year contract.

gingercat02 · 23/09/2023 12:30

RBR has already confirmed all 4 drivers for next season. Really sad for Liam Lawson as he's doing a better job than Danny R

LetMeEnfoldYou · 23/09/2023 15:01

Same @gingercat02

I think Daniel and Liam would be a brilliant team, I'm not a Tsunoda fan at all.

Brazilianadventure · 23/09/2023 16:54

I agree Daniel and Liam would be a good team. You also can’t compare DR and Liam when DR only had 2 races before breaking his hand. Plus some of DRs feedback helped AT to develop the car Liam is now driving.

Personally I would have signed DR and Liam rather than Yuki because DR is apparently giving good feedback and would be a better mentor for Liam.

I really hope Liam ends up in the Williams but can see politically it may not happen. Williams are powered by Mercedes and there is an issue having a RBR driver having access to their engine data.

If I remember correctly Alex had to cut all ties with RBR to get his Williams seat. It’s too early for Liam to go down that route.
