F1 2022 Discussion Thread

After many weeks and months of waiting, we finally have an F1 discussion thread on MN!

Anyone who wants to join is welcome - regardless of how long you've been watching the sport or who you support. My only request is that we keep it respectful even when criticising our favourite driver's rivals.

We're in Barcelona this weekend for round 6 of what has been a thriller of a championship so far. I'm really excited to see how the race unfolds today, if overtaking will prove as difficult as it historically has here, if the Mercs have done a step forward in race pace, how RB and Ferrari will play around with strategy and tyres.

It was a planned invasion that the police knew was likely to happen

GrandSlamFinalee · 03/07/2022 15:49

So glad to hear Zhou is okay. The halo saved two lives today, it could have been so much worse.

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 15:49

Like a protest or something?

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 15:53

I'd be rather frustrated if I were Russell.

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 15:55

And I bet Lewis is fuming a bit too.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 03/07/2022 15:57

@StarCourt

We're watching the tennis while we wait. What's the reason for that? Seems wrong.

It's because not all cars had moved through the first timing zone before the red flag was out. So the 'overtaking' order doesn't count

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 16:02

Thanks Iamanunsafebuilding. Managed to hear an explanation from the commentary. Still think it's a silly rule. We all saw who was ahead. But I guess it was a bit harder further back.

Well done, Carlos.

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 16:16

This race is mad.

MadameMinimes · 03/07/2022 16:23

It has been a bonkers race so far.

krj260888 · 03/07/2022 16:36

Hammer time!

LemonRedwood · 03/07/2022 16:40

Where has this Mercedes been all season?!

Is there anything Max won't have a moan about??

LemonRedwood · 03/07/2022 16:42

Ooh, Ferrari letting Carlos and Charles fight it out! That's quite un-Ferrari-like!

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 16:42

Good work on the upgrades, Mercedes dudes.

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 16:46

Zhou has been released from the medical centre, Albon is at hospital having precautionary checks.

To be fair, most of the drivers are whiny toddlers when things aren't going their way.

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 16:59

Oooh. I dunno. This is interesting.

CinderellyCinderelly · 03/07/2022 17:01

LeClerc has been really vocal today!

Max is just being unlucky with his car this race and is only relaying back to his team about the issues.

That is true. It seems like they broadcast Max the most perhaps.

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 17:04

I think Charles has remained remarkably calm while Ferrari has mucked up his race.

LemonRedwood · 03/07/2022 17:04

The probably floor damage is really interesting. I read an article this week that speculated Horner might actually be disadvantaging himself/RB by being opposed to the FIA intervention on the tech specs. Of course, I can't find it now and can't remember all the ins and outs... I will try to find it...

LemonRedwood · 03/07/2022 17:05

*probable

He spent a good 10 minutes moaning and pleading to be allowed to overtake sainz!

LemonRedwood · 03/07/2022 17:11

Oh my goodness, what a three-way tussle!

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 17:13

As you would, he was faster!

That was amazing from the three of them.
