F1 2022 Discussion Thread

After many weeks and months of waiting, we finally have an F1 discussion thread on MN!

Anyone who wants to join is welcome - regardless of how long you've been watching the sport or who you support. My only request is that we keep it respectful even when criticising our favourite driver's rivals.

We're in Barcelona this weekend for round 6 of what has been a thriller of a championship so far. I'm really excited to see how the race unfolds today, if overtaking will prove as difficult as it historically has here, if the Mercs have done a step forward in race pace, how RB and Ferrari will play around with strategy and tyres.

That's been some of the most exciting racing I've seen for a while. Like LeClerc and Verstappen in the first race of the season - proper tasty overtaking!

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 17:16

Loved that from Leclerc and Lewis.

LemonRedwood · 03/07/2022 17:21

Thrilled for Carlos Sainz!

MadameMinimes · 03/07/2022 17:22

That was a great race!

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 17:23

So pleased for Carlos, though wish it had been Leclerc from a championship perspective.

Another 3rd for Lewis, which is fantastic. Hopefully Mercedes continues this better form.

CinderellyCinderelly · 03/07/2022 17:23

So chuffed for Perez!!

PurpleDaisies · 03/07/2022 17:24

What a race!

CinderellyCinderelly · 03/07/2022 17:24

"As you would, he was faster!"

Clearly Hmm

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 17:27

I wish Perez didn't drive for Red Bull.

So lovely to see Zhou. He looks absolutely fine.

StarCourt · 03/07/2022 17:27

What a fab race

GrouchyKiwi · 03/07/2022 17:28

Both drivers in the points for Haas! It's a miracle!

Tilda77 · 03/07/2022 17:36

Wow what an amazing race! Glad it's over don't think my nerves could take much more!😅

Both drivers in the points for Haas! It's a miracle!

Good upgrades all round it would appear! I'm always pleased when a Haas finishes any higher that bottom because otherwise I just imagine Gunther Steiner having to have yet another tough phone call with Gene Haas and I feel Gunther should be protected at all costs 🤣

CinderellyCinderelly · 04/07/2022 10:33

How zhou walked away unscathed is a miracle! Great to see Alex Albon got the all clear too!

Extra respect for George for running over to check both drivers were ok!

Tilda77 · 04/07/2022 11:18

Looking forward to Austria this coming weekend! It has so much to live up to after this weekends race! I've been a fan of F1 for 35 years. Used to watch it on the TV with my Dad explaining it all to me and have loved it ever since. Happy days!
Have never been to a race😔Every year I say I'm going but never get there...there's always something crops up and the money needs spending elsewhere! Next year I'm going! 😂

StarCourt · 04/07/2022 11:54

@Tilda77 try and go to a race if you can, the atmosphere is phenomenal

Tilda77 · 04/07/2022 14:21

My next realistic chance is Silverstone 2023 so that's my aim! 😅@StarCourt

LookItsMeAgain · 11/07/2022 09:16

What is your take on the events of the weekend? The crowd issues, the sprint, the race?

Does anyone here that follows F1 also follow and/or subscribe to WTF1 online? I love their "Internet's Best Reactions" after each race.

Tilda77 · 11/07/2022 09:52

Was a good race. Glad to see that several teams are sharing the points so no one driver/team is running away with the championship. Good to see Lewis and George doing well. The Mercedes seems to be the most reliable car on the grid...even though they're not the quickest!

StarCourt · 11/07/2022 10:55

I love Sprint weekends

Wakemeuuuup · 11/07/2022 11:52

It was a good race. Shame about some of the spectators. Nice to see Mercedes and Aston Martin took a couple of the ladies affected into the garage on Sunday

GrandSlamFinalee · 12/07/2022 21:44

The race was great with so many different strategies and on-track overtakes. Really happy for Charles, what he did in the last few laps while stuck at 20% throttle was incredible. Hope Ferrari can keep the momentum going. Happy to see Carlos walking away unharmed. It’ll be interesting to see who France and Hungary will favour.

GrandSlamFinalee · 24/07/2022 13:04

Really excited for the race today. Will be switching trains around 2pm and going underground for some time so hoping I don’t miss too much.

Will be interesting to see if Red Bull just breeze past the Ferrari or if Charles can build enough of an advantage… He really needs to snatch some more points from Max.

It’s boiling in the south of France right now according to my friends there (and the weather app) so will be interesting to see how much the heat affects the race.

Rowgtfc72 · 24/07/2022 13:10

Think today will be a ferrari day to be honest. I'm not a great fan of this track. Would love to see George get a podium.
