Ahh I thought it might be COVID related but Spain seemed to have loads of athletes. I'd be gutted if I made it to the olympics and couldn't walk in the opening ceremony.

Why aren't all the athletes walking for each country? Do they just decide not to bother?

Although it's all a bit strange I'm still finding this emotional.

Not just covid; they never have every Olympian walking in the opening ceremony. Various reasons such as it being a long, late day and some are participating tomorrow, etc.

One of my family walked with GB group and only heard this morning (their time) that they had been chosen. It didn't sound like a case of 'come along if you want to'.
