@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba just a warm up for the World Cup!!
🤣
DH said the same!
I'm looking forward to it even more now!

@ChocBeforeCock

His penalty was poor. That is just factual. If he was on target and the penalty was saved, the skill of the goalkeeper would be a factor, but it's not. He tried to be clever and he danced around a bit, pausing, dancing, pausing, dancing and it looked ridiculous. That was skill, that was ego

I actually don’t like penalties like Rashford’s (even when they go in). I don’t like any penalty where the player watches the goalkeeper instead of focussing on the ball. However, lots of players take penalties like that. It isn’t arrogance. It’s just a style of penalty. It didn’t work tonight, but you could see what he was trying to do and it nearly came off. Fair play to him for giving it a go.

Nearly came off? He didn't even hit the target. Literally. There could have been no goalie and it wouldn't have mattered because he couldn't get it on target. And fair play to him for giving it a go? Do you realise how much these men get paid to do what they do? I'm sorry but when you're paid millions upon millions you do more than 'give it a go'
Noterook · 12/07/2021 00:05

To be fair their social media is overwhelmingly supportive, the few who are being negative are being called out by hundreds of people.

magsbagsfags · 12/07/2021 00:05

@Naillig222

I noticed the English team were all taking their medals off immediately after they were presented with them. Is there a reason for this?
To me it looks like bad losers
LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 12/07/2021 00:05

@Teddy1970

Gareth Southgate has said previously they practice penalties until they're blue in the face they also discuss who might possibly take them and would they be happy to do so, so I have a feeling Gareth didn't just randomly pick Saka.
It just seems weird choice to chose someone not known for taking penalties as the 5th penalty taker..experience first then work down. Oh well if it paid off it'd been amazing for him. Hopefully can pick himself up and go again.

Done well to get as far as no one saw it coming!! Onwards and all

SallySycamore · 12/07/2021 00:05

I don't think all of the complaints about Southgate choosing Saka for the fifth one are coming from people trying to be football pundits — I think they're being mums!

You can see how there are riots on the streets when you look at these threads

@Sparklingbrook

no, MrsGulDukat (sp?)/ MrsJackGrealish made it clear who she was when she changed her name. don't worry, the people who actually were here from the start knew and there was no wrongdoing.

MrsJackGrealish · 12/07/2021 00:06

@LetsGoFlyAKiteee

Exactly!!

Bagelsandbrie · 12/07/2021 00:07

I freely admit I am not a great football follower but me and my family have really enjoyed every time England has played these last weeks and I think it’s easy for people to forget the pressure on these young men - and they are so young. They played an amazing game, it’s all given us so much to get excited about and that shouldn’t be forgotten in place of negativity over the penalties.

MotionActivatedDog · 12/07/2021 00:07

How?

Difference of opinion gets taken so seriously, tempers get frayed, people start swearing and name calling.

BrozTito · 12/07/2021 00:08

I was 6 during euro 96 and destroyed by the result but now that summer is my favourite memory.

Losing is always going to feel a bit of a downer, after such a bouyant tournament and start to the game.

I don't watch football normally but I have been really impressed with the quality of our game and players, not to mention how nice the players seem.

On this game, how amazing to score so quick and hold our own in a final against a really experienced team. I thought we did really well, I honestly think we will just get more confident with experience, which is very exciting.

I feel for those in the penalty shoot out, especially the ones who lost but hopefully they will bounce back. They're still so young.

I also have to say it seemed quite ugly at times with shirt pulling and some of the tackles.

What a team, so proud of them.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/07/2021 00:09

I'm gonna sign off now.

thanks @DuncinToffee and all the original team & actual fans for the great time.

now the tourists have turned up to argue.🤬 I have zero interest in that.

see you all next year!

MrsJackGrealish · 12/07/2021 00:09

@SallySycamore

I think that's it.

Saka is only 5 years older that my own baby. He could be my baby and I feel like I wanna protect him.

BrozTito · 12/07/2021 00:09

Saka takes penalties for arsenal

I joined this 'Extra Time' thread. Only caught the end of the other one, not sure how many threads there were prior to that so unaware when the start was and what thread. Thought this one was a bit of a laugh when the match was on and joined in. Think it's taken a strange turn since.

I really must go to bed.

Germolenequeen · 12/07/2021 00:10

Was MrsJackGrealish the same as the one shown on TV tonight?

jasjas1973 · 12/07/2021 00:10

@PhilSwagielka

Rashford's penalty was absolute gash and Southgate should never have asked him, Sancho or Saka to do it. Like, Walker, Stones, Sterling are all RIGHT THERE.
They may not have wanted too or their performance in training was poor.

As i said, its a lottery, a very poor way to end a match but there isn'y any other way.
Bare in mind the possession & shots on target Italy had, could have won in normal time

ChocBeforeCock · 12/07/2021 00:11

Nearly came off? He didn't even hit the target. Literally

The purpose of the elaborate run up is to send the keeper one way, then kick it in the empty side of the goal. He did the hard bit by sending the keeper the wrong way. That’s what the run up was for. Not arrogance. Not ego. To send the keeper diving before you kick the ball.

MrsJackGrealish · 12/07/2021 00:12

@Germolenequeen

Would have loved to have been though.

ChocBeforeCock · 12/07/2021 00:12

@BrozTito

Saka takes penalties for arsenal
Does he? I thought aubameyang took them for Arsenal
DuncinToffee · 12/07/2021 00:13

I am signing off too, thank you all again for the fun we had on these threads ⚽️
